Chapter 161 The Fisherman's Commission in the Small Fishing Village
After a few days of rest, the Dog Dagger Squad regrouped with the Adventurers' Guild, ready to embark on a new adventure quest.
However, many subtle changes have occurred in the Plassen area in the past few days.
Everyone was drawn to the bulletin board in front of the Adventurers' Guild, where major events of the recent period were posted.
A group of uninvited guests—fishmen—have recently appeared in Collin Bay. They are likely from Clamshell Town, along the Zeya River. The situation in Clamshell Town is currently unknown, and many adventurers and reinforcements have already gone to its aid. We hereby call upon adventurers to actively participate in the extermination of these invading fishmen! Generous rewards await!
Colin Bay is a trade river bay near Plassen, connected to the banks of the Zeya River. Unexpectedly, a group of merfolk appeared and began to influence the area around Plassen.
"Glacial Clam Town? Yes, that area was also affected, possibly even earlier than Rockfall Town, and from even further away," Finita exclaimed in surprise.
"And I remember mermen usually hang out by the sea, so why are there mermen by the river too?"
Lin Wen explained, "There are many kinds of fish-men. These fish-men usually live in wide rivers and make a living by eating small fish and shrimp in the rivers. Of course, now they probably want to expand their diet. It just so happens that at this time, I think there must be someone pushing them behind the scenes."
Noah frowned and nodded. "The situation seems to be worse than I thought. We can manage Rockfall Town, but if multiple places encounter emergencies, Plasson's manpower may not be able to cope."
Entering the Adventurers' Guild's quest hall, Loran pointed to a quest about eliminating murlocs. "You can get 20 silver coins for eliminating a murloc now. That sounds pretty good. Shall we give it a try?"
"I think it's fine. The safety of the region is also related to our own. If we can help alleviate some of the pressure from the fishmen's extermination efforts in the Plassen region, I think it would be a very good thing," Lin Wen agreed.
"Yes, but we still need to be careful of merfolk monsters. They're not as easy to deal with as we think, and we especially need to be careful not to fight them head-on in the water," Noah reminded.
After some discussion, everyone agreed on the merman's task and accepted the mission.
The type of commission is a free mission, and the reward is given directly based on the number of murlocs killed.
So what Loran and the others had to do was head to Collin Bay and kill as many mermen as possible to get the rewards.
The group boarded the carriage and set off. There were many small fishing villages near Collin Bay, all of which were located near rivers and were the most likely places to be harassed by fishermen.
After traversing the uneven hillsides, Brian sat in the car and watched the caravans passing by. He noticed a large cage being pulled behind one of the caravans.
There were many large hunting dogs like him in the cage, barking incessantly.
Brian looked at the hounds, and the hounds looked back at Brian.
"Oh... I remember I was sent here in the same way. It was a really unpleasant feeling. Fortunately, I met my first master, and I was lucky enough to meet my second master as well," Brian said with emotion.
Loran patted Brian's head. "Hmm, Brian, do you like this kind of life?"
"Of course! I love thrilling adventures, but... I hate those monsters. They drove us away from our hometown, and many familiar people are gone now because of them. I'm really worried they'll end up like our old master..."
At this point, Brian's ears drooped, and he lay on the carriage, seemingly lost in thought.
Everyone looked at the little dog talking to itself, stroking its soft fur. They didn't know how to comfort it, because there were some things they couldn't understand either.
"Welcome, adventurers!" The village chief of Pengluo Village warmly greeted Loran and his companions. "You must all be adventurers who have come in response to the call. Thank you so much! Our village has been harassed by the merfolk recently, and it's been a real ordeal."
"Okay, may we ask you about the situation?" Lin Wen asked.
The village chief then led Loran and the others to learn about the general situation.
These merfolk dared not be too arrogant in the face of the small fishing village not far from Plassen. They were like mosquitoes at night; if left unattended, they would be very annoying.
But if you try to manage it, it's hard to catch, which is quite troublesome.
"We've been guarding the catch almost around the clock, but those mermen always manage to find an opening to launch a sneak attack."
"Even if the guards fight with all their might, there will always be a time when they can't withstand their attacks, and the catch will be stolen... That's what we make of our lives."
The village chief sighed, "If we can't instill enough fear in them, then no matter how much we do, it will be in vain. So I contacted the Adventurers' Guild and asked for the help of adventurers like you."
After understanding the general situation, the village chief led Loran and the others to the shore. Several warehouses on the shore were filled with a large amount of fish, which were the main targets of the fishmen's attacks.
Finita asked curiously, "Why not put these catches away from the river? That way, even if the fish-people have ideas, it will be more difficult for them to act."
The village chief sighed, "It's not that we don't want to, but it's due to cost and space issues. On the one hand, it takes a lot of manpower to move this large catch to the designated location, which is a cost issue."
"Secondly, we don't really have a better place to store our catch. We have several warehouses here, and the guards look after each other, so we can barely keep going... If the guard force is dispersed, the situation will be even worse."
"Now there's an even bigger problem: once those fishmen come ashore, their target might not be our catch; they'll wander into the village... and do things that are absolutely infuriating!"
At this point, the village chief clenched his fist, "These guys may have the word 'person' in their names, but the things they do are anything but human!"
Judging from the village chief's tone, Loran and the others could roughly guess what bad things the fishmen had done, things that would be fatal to almost anyone.
Just then, a voice reached everyone's ears.
"Hey village chief, hello there! And you guys too, hello there! You must be the new adventurer team!" A man with a small mustache wearing a sailboat hat greeted them warmly.
Two adventurers followed behind him; they must have been a team.
But when Lin Wen saw an adventurer behind her, her expression changed.
