Chapter 163 Put's Squad and the Fishmen
Loran's arrow flew out and struck the fishman's scales, piercing straight through!
Unidentified liquids flowed from the fish-men's bodies, murky and viscous; it was their blood.
One arrow after another pierced the merfolk's bodies. They were quite resilient and could still maintain basic movement even after being hit by arrows.
Even if one of the murlocs had an arrow stuck in its eye, it continued to launch its attack as if nothing had happened.
They also discovered the presence of the archer, Loran, and immediately launched an attack on him after being injured.
Brian refused to listen and charged straight at the onrushing fishmen, using his teeth and claws to stop them from advancing.
Several fishmen used spears to pierce Brian, and a stream of heat splashed out just as the spears were about to reach Brian's body!
A burst of intense steam erupted, the scorching heat enough to burn the skin.
"Awooo!" Brian howled, and at the same time, the spear pierced Brian's resilient fur, but the expected piercing did not occur.
Brian used the flexibility of his fur to deflect the spear, and the fishmen all wore strange expressions.
Their spears should be sharp enough, so why couldn't they even penetrate the skin of a big dog?
Before they could think any further, the furious Brian suddenly opened his mouth wide, and a scene that the fishmen would never forget appeared.
A blazing fireball suddenly shot out of Brian's mouth.
"Boom!" The intense heat instantly evaporated the water on the fishmen's bodies, and the scorching steam rose up. The fireball then landed on them, blasting them away!
Noah, who was trying to rush over to protect her, was stunned when he saw this. Wait, was he seeing things? Finita seemed to be on the other side, and that fireball was coming from Brian's mouth?
He shook his head, deciding to think about these things later. Noah raised his greatsword and seized the opportunity, launching an attack on the blasted fishmen.
The steel slash was unleashed, the sharp greatsword cutting through the unbalanced murlocs, instantly slicing through their proud fish scales and cleaving one murloc in two.
As Brian unleashed his fireball, Finita on the other side finished channeling her magic, and another large fireball roared out, blasting a group of fishmen to the ground.
The guards could also seize the opportunity to turn the tide.
Next came the final stage. Loran's arrows mercilessly struck the heads of the mermen one by one. No matter how tenacious these guys were, they could hardly withstand the damage from the headshots.
Seeing that the situation was hopeless, some fishmen instinctively tried to escape. They ran desperately towards the river, hoping to find a glimmer of hope.
But Loran didn't give them that chance. Magic arrows condensed and were ignited!
A burning magic arrow flew out and instantly pierced the merman's head, killing him instantly.
The battle on Loran's side was nearing its end, but the fighting on Put's side was still going on.
The fishmen had already cornered the three of them in a dead end of the alley. Nine fishmen surrounded them in a fan shape, and the formation of coral spears instantly compressed all their space to move.
Captain Put's longsword danced in a dazzling display, deflecting three spears that came thrusting at him in succession.
But just as he broke free from the frontal attack, two dark figures pounced from his side, the fish-men's webbed claws viciously grabbing at his waist.
Even with the leather armor providing cushioning, the sharp claws still tore through the leather, leaving three deep, bone-revealing gashes on his waist.
"Damn it, Hott, defend me!" Putt cursed.
The soldiers in the group then realized what was happening and deployed their shields to protect Captain Put.
The Ranger in the team was at a loss as the Murlocs kept approaching, and could only defend himself. If he attacked, he would inevitably expose a huge flaw.
Just as Put's team was in danger, reinforcements arrived.
As an adventurer team as well, Loran and his companions naturally couldn't stand idly by. Several arrows flew in, instantly disrupting the fishmen's formation.
They had to divert their energy to deal with the arrows that Loran was rapidly unleashing, and the next moment, Noah's greatsword was already swinging down.
Noah's powerful physique instantly shattered these not-so-strong fishmen, and the greatsword crushed their bodies. The coral spears in their hands tried to spew out high-temperature gases, but they were all blocked by the plate armor.
The Putt squad seized this rare opportunity and launched their attack. In no time, the fishmen scattered and fled, easily pursued and killed by Loran and his group.
Captain Putt, who had narrowly escaped death, was panting heavily. He looked at the slain fishman on the ground with surprise in his eyes.
"Great! This is money! Holt, quick, pack up these murlocs and take them away!" Putt commanded his teammates.
Holt was very obedient to orders. He quickly took out a large sack from his backpack and stuffed the head of the fishman he had just killed into the sack.
This is a voucher for redeeming rewards at the Adventurers' Guild. A murloc head is proof that you killed a murloc and can be exchanged for 20 silver coins.
Finita was immediately annoyed by this scene. She went to the Putt team and scolded them, "What are you doing? We just saved you, and instead of thanking us, you start collecting loot! You should know that if we hadn't helped, you wouldn't have been able to deal with these fishmen at all!"
Upon hearing Finita's accusation, Captain Put quickly put on a smile and said sincerely, "Well, thank you all so much for your help and contributions! Without you, we probably wouldn't be standing here."
"My heart is very sincere, but we also need to survive. Look, you've killed so many murlocs over there, you probably don't need a few more from us. Please be generous and let us take some compensation! We may not have done anything great, but we've certainly put in the effort!"
Hearing Put's words, Noah merely snorted, "This isn't a problem with the fishmen, it's a problem with their attitude. Shouldn't they at least ask our opinion? Right now, you can only get a maximum of four out of these nine fishmen..."
"Four?!" Holt, who was packing the fish, was a little unhappy. He shouted, "Impossible! If there are only four fishmen, we'll barely cover our travel expenses. There are three of us! You can't expect us to risk our lives for nothing!"
Loran, unable to contain himself any longer, said coldly, "This is a problem with your own strength. You can't handle these nine fishmen, yet you expect to receive a corresponding reward. Do you think that's fair?"
Holt chuckled. "Who said we couldn't handle these nine murlocs? We're just taking our time. You guys, on the other hand, seem to be here to help us out of kindness, but you're really just after our murloc spoils!"
