Wizard: I can refine all things.
Chapter 27 Notes
Chapter 27 Notes (Please continue reading)
In the dense forest, old John crouched down, carefully examining the broken plant marks and bloodstains on the ground by the moonlight.
"This way."
Old John made his judgment and pointed in a direction, speaking in a low voice.
Loken's escape route was quite obvious. Even though many traces had been burned away by the flames, old John found his trail with ease.
Following these clues, Richard arrived at a valley.
The valley was sparsely vegetated, and Richard, lying on a high point, easily spotted Loken with a campfire burning.
"That fat guy seems to be looking at something," Ellie whispered.
Richard also saw what Loken was holding—it was a notebook.
"I'll go in head-on later. Ellie, you stay on the side and use magic to prevent him from escaping. Old John, you stay hidden for now."
After arranging the plan, Richard activated his bloodline again. Once the black scales covered his entire torso, he cast a silencing spell on himself.
With everything ready, Richard burst out of the forest, wielding his greatsword and charging toward Loken like a black lightning bolt.
Under the effect of the silencing spell, Richard's movements were almost silent, while Loken seemed to be so engrossed in the notebook in his hand that he didn't notice anything amiss around him.
puff.
Blood splattered.
At the last moment, Loken finally realized the danger and rolled to the side in a very disheveled state. Behind him, a terrible wound running across his back was constantly oozing blood.
"You're still alive!" Loken exclaimed in shock.
"Not only are you not dead, but now I'm going to take your dog's life."
Richard, his face cold, slashed horizontally with his greatsword once more.
This time, Loken was on guard, and two invisible barriers instantly appeared in front of the sword blade.
Two force field barriers!
Loken looked at Richard with a hint of mockery.
"Fools are just lucky to be alive! You're already a wizard's apprentice, and all you can do is use a sword!"
But he was met with Richard's mocking gaze.
If Saban could break through the force field barrier, how could Richard not break through it?
A sharp whistling sound rang out from the gleaming sword tip, and the barrier in front of Loken was instantly shattered. This was the Duke of Blackwood's signature move, Wind Raven Slash, which could even split plate armor in two against the high-speed blade. On the battlefield, this strike often resulted in the destruction of both man and horse.
The blade sliced through the air, and a head flew off.
Loken's eyes were wide open, and he remained filled with doubt until his death.
How could his sword break through two layers of force field barriers!
Seeing that Richard's operation was going smoothly, Ellie and Old John followed suit.
Looking at Loken's headless corpse, Ellie chanted incantations as her magic surged. A wisp of black energy flowed from her fingertips and entered Loken's body.
Moments later, Loken's corpse deflated rapidly like a punctured balloon, his entire body instantly turning into skin and bones.
"It's done." Ellie looked at the corpse with some nervousness.
This is her first time using curse magic; she doesn't know how effective it will be.
Suddenly, a large bulge appeared in the shriveled corpse. A moment later, a white worm, about the size of a fist, emerged from the bulge.
"We did it!" Ellie shouted excitedly.
"What is this?" Richard asked curiously.
"This is a curse worm, a casting material needed for many curse spells." Ellie took the worm in her hand. Unlike ordinary worms, this worm became completely still after Ellie took it in her hand, without struggling at all.
"This one is so big, it could probably fetch five magic stones if sold."
"Can it still be sold?"
"Of course I can sell it." Ellie rolled her eyes at Richard, carefully placing the insect into the pouch at her waist. "Besides being used as a material for casting curses, this thing can also be used as a material for casting spells to ward off curses."
"Well, this is actually a good thing."
After finishing the spell experiment, Richard picked up the notebook that Loken had been looking at from the ground.
The pages of the notebook were yellowed, and the edges were wrinkled from dampness. It looked like it had been left out in the wild for quite some time.
The notes were written in wizarding script; some parts were blurry, but most were clearly legible. This saved Richard the mental energy required to refine them.
To be honest, Richard wasn't sure if he could extract anything from such illegible handwriting.
After flipping through a few pages, Richard finally understood why that group of people were hunting down Loken.
"Advanced Apprentice's notes? How did something like that end up in the Blackrock Mountains?"
With doubts in his mind, Richard began to peruse his notes in front of the fire.
July 10th, heavy rain
The weather is bad today. It's been raining non-stop since the day before yesterday. If this keeps up, mushrooms will grow in the room.
July 15th, sunny
The rain has finally stopped. A massage parlor opened in the dark building next door today; I heard it can relieve mental fatigue, but I don't know if it's true.
Let's go check it out tomorrow.
July 16th, sunny
The massage parlor was quite effective; I've heard that special services are even more effective.
I'll try it tomorrow.
July 17th, sunny
Go to a massage parlor.
July 18th, cloudy
Go to a massage parlor.
July 19th, sunny
Damn it, those bitches actually used aphrodisiac incense as meditation incense!
July 20th, sunny
Go to a massage parlor.
Richard quickly flipped through a few pages and found that they were all this guy's reviews of the massage parlor.
"Damn, even a civil engineering guy shouldn't go this often."
Skipping over the massage parlor section, Richard finally gets to the main point.
The owner of this notebook majored in the Evocation school. The notebook records his ideas for modifying the first-circle spell Hand of Fire, as well as the experimental results of the modifications.
"The power has increased by one level, and the energy consumption has been reduced by one-tenth. Just based on this modification alone, tonight's work has not been in vain." Richard was somewhat excited.
Energy level is the basic unit for evaluating spell power in the Evocation school; one energy level is equivalent to the power of a spell missile. However, since many wizarding spells cannot be evaluated using direct power, this unit is generally only used by the Evocation school.
I continued flipping through my notes.
May 12th, sunny
I only have one magic stone left. How many magic stones did those bitches at the massage parlor swindle from me?
May 13th, cloudy
There are so many people in the mission hall. These new students aren't paying attention in class. What are they doing on missions?
May 15th, sunny
Finally, a decent quest! Gathering herbs in the Blackrock Mountains only gives you twenty magic stones, plus reimbursement for travel expenses. Alchemy wizards are indeed rolling in money.
May 19th, light rain
It's raining again. We've been in the Blackrock Mountains all day and haven't found a single thing. There's a reason the reward is so high.
At this point in the diary, a blank space suddenly appeared in the notes.
Richard turned a few pages and found several lines of messy writing, the last of which was written in blood.
"What is that?! What the hell did that mudslide release?!"
"Living iron net, how did such a thing appear in the Blackrock Mountains?"
"Guardian Golem! I know, I've broken into a wizard's laboratory! Those strange things are all the wizard's protective measures!"
Wizard Laboratory!
Richard felt his heart skip a beat.
The benefits of a wizard's laboratory are immense. The various specimens, experimental materials collected by the wizard, and even the experimental equipment are invaluable treasures for apprentices.
Richard continued flipping through the notebook, and after a long blank space, a line of blood written with a finger appeared at the end of the notebook before him.
"The wizard is dead!"
