Chapter 66 The Black and White Wizards

Chapter 66 The Black and White Wizards

"Before I explain the black and white wizards, I want to ask you a question, Richard: how much do you know about wizarding society?"

Richard was stunned by Jorod's question.

If the question were about how much Richard knew about the wizarding world, he could at least offer some insights based on the wizarding world's chronicles. But Jorlord was asking about wizarding society, and as an apprentice who hadn't even graduated from wizarding school, what would he know about wizarding society?

Seeing Richard's silence, Jorod knew that his student knew nothing about these trivial matters.

"It seems you know nothing about it. That's perfect. I'll take this opportunity to give you a preview of the wizarding society."

Jorrod led Richard to the desk, grabbed a piece of paper and used it as a blackboard to explain wizarding society to Richard.

"The wizarding society we live in is a pyramid structure."

As he spoke, George drew a triangle on the paper and then added two lines in the middle.

He pointed to the top of the tower and said, "At the very top is the Truth Council, composed of five Truth Wizards. Our current Wizarding Academy rules, Wizarding World Code of Conduct, Wizarding World Nature Conservation Law, and other rules are all promulgated by the Truth Council."

They are both the strongest wizards and the leaders of the wizarding world.

Then, Jolaude pointed the pen tip to the bottom layer.

"At the very bottom are hundreds of millions of mortals. Though they are weak, they are the origin of wizards. Every wizarding academy has an obligation to protect all mortals within its sphere of influence, and all wizards are prohibited from using mortals for human experimentation."

Even a great wizard wouldn't do.

After saying that, George moved the pen tip to the middle of the pyramid and drew a vertical line on the middle layer.

"In between these two are wizards who are enrolled in wizarding academies."

Wizards are divided into Grand Wizards and Ordinary Wizards. Those from the first to the third ring are Ordinary Wizards, while those above the third ring are Grand Wizards.

Wizarding academies are divided into two types: dark wizarding academies, such as our Black Tower Wizarding Academy, which conduct bloody examinations; and white wizarding academies, which do not conduct bloody examinations. The biggest difference between these academies and ours, besides not conducting bloody examinations, is that white wizards emphasize teamwork, while dark wizards focus more on individual combat and prefer solo fighting.

Richard nodded; these things were not difficult to understand.

"But in fact, during the Enlightenment, there was no distinction between black and white wizards." Jorod paused, then continued, "If we were to use black and white to distinguish wizards of that era, everyone during the Enlightenment was a black wizard. They were even more black wizards than black wizards. The bloody exams you are experiencing now would have been no different from child's play to wizards during the Enlightenment."

Therefore, the distinction between black and white wizards is entirely a product of the pioneering era.

And you can probably guess who gave rise to these two types of wizards without me having to tell you.

Jord glanced at Richard, who said somewhat uncertainly:

"Are they five Truth Wizards?"

Jorod nodded in satisfaction: "He is the great Wizard of Truth."

The interdimensional war brought many changes to wizards, as traditional wizards were not suited for the interdimensional battlefield. Therefore, the truth wizards created the White Wizards based on the interdimensional battlefield and some other factors, and also imposed restrictions on the traditional wizard training, changing the traditional extreme survival of the fittest into a more lenient and bloody examination.

Before this, wizarding academies had no rules prohibiting private duels within the academy; back then, every single moment of a wizarding apprentice's life revolved around how to survive and how to kill others.

Jorod spoke with emotion, for the Wizard of Truth's single command had changed the fate of countless wizards.

"From then on, the White Wizard Legion began to dominate the front lines, while the Black Wizards remained in the shadows, responsible for assassinations, reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, and other behind-enemy-lines operations."

There is no hierarchy between the two; they simply have different functions. The successful conduct of a dimensional war often requires the concerted efforts of both.

This is a revolutionary change!

Jorode spoke with pride, "From the moment the distinction between black and white wizards was made, the pace of conquering the wizarding world began to accelerate. What used to take hundreds of years to conquer now only takes a few decades. Since then, the wizarding world has begun to prosper, and great wizards have appeared in an explosive manner."

Before the division into Black and White wizards, the wizarding world had only a few hundred wizarding academies. After the division, the number of Archmages skyrocketed to over a thousand within a few eras.

As Jorod spoke, he became more and more excited, his words carrying a sense of unbridled confidence.

"Um... teacher," Richard gently interrupted Jorod, "teacher, I don't quite understand. What are you trying to tell me all this?"

"Cough cough cough, it's nothing." Joe Rodger composed himself, a hint of embarrassment flashing across his face.

Jorrod is considered one of the older second-ring wizards, and even wizards are not immune to the tendency for middle-aged men to become obsessed with grand narratives.

"I'm telling you all this to let you know that the killings you've experienced aren't just the Dean's twisted sense of humor. Don't hold any grudges against the academy. To put it bluntly, whether it's us or a great wizard like the Dean, we're all just cogs in the machine of the wizarding world."

Only the great wizard of truth can guide the way.

Upon hearing this explanation, Richard scratched his head.

He wouldn't necessarily have any aversion to the Black Tower Wizarding Academy because of the bloody exam.

Richard has been in this world for over a decade, and his mindset has undergone a tremendous change.

He had made killing a commonplace thing for him.

He is a very adaptable person.

Only the fittest survive.

"I understand, teacher. If there's nothing else, I'll head back now," Richard said, taking his leave.

Jorod opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing.

"...Okay, let's go back."

Back in his room, Richard immediately began studying the fragments of the secret realm.

After using his mental powers to probe the crystal ball, Richard obtained the method for using the fragments of the secret realm.

First of all, the crystal ball that the Black Tower Archmage gave them was merely a key; it did not seal the fragments of the secret realm inside.

To enter the fragment of the secret realm, simply input magic into the crystal ball, and the crystal ball will automatically open a spatial rift. By passing through the rift, the user can enter the fragment of the secret realm.

"The dean is very thorough in everything he does; he even thoughtfully prepared the magic circle for charging."

Following the information in the crystal ball, Richard began drawing a magic circle on the floor with chalk. After completing the circle, Richard poured a pile of magic stones from his pocket.

Opening a spatial rift requires a considerable amount of energy, and this energy consumption increases as the user's strength increases.

Richard is currently an intermediate apprentice, requiring only fifty magic stones to open a rift. When Richard becomes an advanced apprentice, the energy cost of the rift will increase to one hundred magic stones. And when Richard advances to wizard, the energy cost of the rift will become one thousand magic stones.

The Black Tower Archmage explained that as a user's strength increases, their influence on space also grows. If they don't expend more energy to stabilize the spatial rift, they are likely to fall into the rift space and be torn to pieces in the spatial storm.

As his magic power waned, a spatial rift with a faint purple glow at its edges but pitch black inside appeared before Richard.

Richard tentatively inserted his finger.

Nothing happened.

"It seems to have stabilized."

Richard picked up the crystal ball and carefully stepped into the crevice.
