Chapter 80 The Arrival of Zod
Chapter 80 The Arrival of Zod
A month later.
The warm afternoon sun shone on the land. On the vast plains of the farm, Clark sat in a deckchair in the yard, holding a law book in his hand, reading it intently and taking notes from time to time.
Ever since returning from that superhero reverse universe, he has been determined to change the world, not with his fists, but with his knowledge.
"Clark, dinner's ready," Ganata called out as she came out of the house.
Clark closed the book, stood up, and replied, "Coming."
The two went inside together, where Wanda had already set out the food.
It was still Clark's favorite cola chicken wings and braised pork knuckle, as well as Ganata's recently favorite hot and sour dishes. The three of them sat around the table in a warm atmosphere.
"Father, I've been studying legal provisions lately," Clark said while eating.
"I have found that the existing legal system does have many loopholes. The section on superpowered individuals is almost blank. Perhaps this is because the era of superheroes has not yet arrived. In addition to this, there are other legal loopholes."
Wanda nodded and asked, "Do you have any ideas?"
"I have some initial ideas." Clark's eyes lit up.
"I want to push for a law specifically for people with superpowers, clearly defining what level of crime corresponds to what punishment, including the conditions for applying the death penalty, but this will take a long time."
"No rush, you have plenty of time. The era of superheroes hasn't even begun yet," Wanda said calmly. "Legal matters can be dealt with slowly, but some things can't wait that long."
Clark understood the implication in Wanda's words: "Father, have you foreseen something?" He knew that his father seemed to know something about the future, and very accurately.
Wanda put down her chopsticks and said, "It's not a prediction, it's already here. Your people will be here soon."
Clark's expression instantly turned serious: "A race? Kryptonians?!"
Wanda picked up her teacup, took a sip, and said, "Yes. They've been looking for you; they should have arrived by now."
Clark fell silent, recalling the artificial intelligence he had seen on the Kryptonian spaceship in the Arctic, and the message left by Jor-El who claimed to be his father.
Krypton has been destroyed and he is the last Kryptonian, but now his father tells him that there are other Kryptonians.
"Who are they?" Clark asked in a deep voice.
"A criminal from Krypton, and one of the few Kryptonians to have survived," Wanda said, uttering the name.
"General Zod, Krypton's former military leader. He wants the Life Codex within you, and then rebuilds Krypton at the cost of Earth."
Clark clenched his fist. "I understand. When will they arrive?"
"It should be in the next few days." Wanda glanced at the sky outside the window. "Get ready, Clark, this time you will truly appear before the world."
Clark nodded emphatically.
Three days later. Evening.
Wanda and Ganata were watering the flowers in the yard, while Clark continued studying law books inside. Suddenly, an unusual aurora appeared in the sky, a magnificent green light spreading across the horizon—it wasn't a natural phenomenon.
Wanda put down the kettle she was holding: "Coming."
Ganata looked up at the sky: "These are the Kryptonians you were talking about?"
"right."
At the same time, electronic devices around the world were interfered with; all television, computer, and mobile phone screens flickered, and then a dignified and cold face appeared on the screen.
He was a middle-aged man dressed in black armor, with eyes as sharp as knives.
"Earthlings, I am General Zod from Krypton. Your planet has taken in one of my kin, and I now demand that you hand him over within twenty-four hours, or Earth will bear the consequences."
"Kal'el, you are also a child of Krypton. I'm giving you the same twenty-four hours to surrender to me, or you will witness the destruction of Earth."
The signal was cut off, and the world fell into a brief silence, followed by utter uproar and panic.
News of the alien invasion spread like a virus. Governments around the world held emergency meetings, the military went on high alert, ordinary people rushed into the streets to flee, supermarkets were emptied, and the streets were jammed with vehicles. The world was in complete chaos.
Clark came out of the house on the farm, his face calm but his eyes resolute: "Father, I heard you."
Wanda walked up to him: "What are you planning to do?"
"I will go see them," Clark said without hesitation, "but not to surrender. I will stop them, by whatever means necessary."
Wanda reached out and patted Clark on the shoulder: "Go ahead, do what you think is right. Whatever decision you make, your mother and I will support you."
Ganata also came over: "Be careful, Clark. Although you are strong, don't be careless. Tell us if you need anything."
Clark's nose tingled slightly: "Thank you, I'm going."
He took off his coat, revealing the battle suit he had already put on underneath.
It was a tight-fitting battle suit, predominantly blue with red accents, and featured a striking S-shaped logo on the chest.
On Krypton it represents hope, but here it is a symbol of the Maximov family.
Clark took a deep breath and soared into the sky, creating a sonic boom that echoed across the farm. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared into the clouds.
Wanda and Ganata watched him leave.
"Aren't you coming along?" Ganata asked.
"Let him face it himself first." Wanda took Ganata's hand. "We can go over anytime and see how this play goes."
The two returned to the house, and Wanda casually waved her hand, causing a crimson light screen to appear in the living room, displaying footage of Clark flying.
Clark flew very high, passing through the clouds and reaching the stratosphere.
From here, you can overlook the entire world. In the distance, three enormous black spaceships are slowly descending, their sheer size exuding a sense of oppression and the cold indifference of an alien civilization.
That was Zod's spaceship, and Clark hovered in the air waiting.
Just then, a golden light flew from afar and stopped beside Clark, revealing a familiar figure.
Wonder Woman Diana, dressed in her iconic red and blue armor, wielding the Lasso of Truth, carrying the Shield of Power, her black hair flowing in the wind.
"Aunt Diana, what brings you here?" Clark asked, somewhat surprised.
"How could I not come when something so big has happened?" Diana flew to Clark's side and stood beside him.
"I went to the farm to find you, but your father said you came by yourself, so I came directly here. Your father asked me to tell you something: do what you think is right, she's watching you."
A warm feeling welled up inside Clark: "I understand. Aunt Diana, are you willing to face them with me?"
