Chapter 350 Savage Arena
Liu Nian glanced at him, knowing this guy was itching for a fight. The Demon Bear Clan were battle maniacs, always wanting to spar with any strong opponent. But now wasn't the time, so he suppressed his fighting spirit: "There will be plenty of opportunities later. Let's figure out the situation first."
The buildings lining both sides of the street are also very distinctive.
Most of the tents were made of animal hides and bones. The large tents were five or six stories high, like small hills, covered with animal hides, some still showing the original patterns; the small ones were only big enough for one person to squeeze into, as rudimentary as dog kennels. Various signs hung at the entrances of the tents—some depicting swords and knives, indicating weapon shops; some depicting medicine bottles, indicating pharmacies; some depicting gold coins, indicating currency exchange; and others depicting wine glasses, indicating taverns.
There were also a few stone buildings. Most of these were branches of labor unions and strongholds of powerful organizations, built with huge stones, with fully armed guards standing at the entrances, scanning passersby with wary eyes.
As he walked, Liu Nian saw a huge circular building.
It stood a hundred meters tall, covering an area at least the size of several football fields. Its outer walls were decorated with countless skulls—orc skulls, beast skulls, and even some enormous skulls of indeterminate races, layered and inlaid on the walls. From a distance, one could smell a strong stench of blood, mixed with the body odor of wild animals and the sweat of humans, creating a unique, savage atmosphere.
Mosh followed his gaze, his deep voice tinged with awe: "That's the Savage Arena—the bloodiest place in Savage Fortress, and one of the three most famous arena battlegrounds in the entire Naraku Realm."
"The three holy sites?" Yun Xiangrong asked curiously, "What are the other two?"
"The Void Arena and the Eternal Tower," Kal'tsit replied from the side.
"Oh~" Yun Xiangrong had heard Kal'tsit introduce the Void Arena before.
"Yes, I don't know about the Tower of Eternity, but this place is completely different from the Void Arena!" Mosh said.
Liu Nian raised an eyebrow: "Tell me about it."
Mosh organized his thoughts: "I've heard that the Void Arena is a ranking arena, held once a year, open to players level 199 and above with an S-rank reputation across the entire realm. But the Gladiator Arena is different—it's open year-round, with hundreds of gladiatorial matches every day! The events are incredibly diverse; the opponents can be players, NPCs, or even monsters and bosses. The challenge methods are also incredibly varied—life-or-death duels, trap battles, team battles, strangulation hunts, free-for-alls… Winners naturally receive good rewards, and spectators can also place bets…"
The crowd became interested and gathered around to listen to Mosh's story.
"That sounds interesting. How exactly do I participate?" Liu Nian asked.
"To participate in gladiatorial combat, the first step is to register as a gladiator with the Arena Guild." Mosh pointed to a slightly lower stone building next to the arena. "See that? That's the Arena Guild headquarters. The registration requirements are simple—pay 100 crystal coins, sign a waiver, and then you'll officially become an F-rank gladiator."
Gladiators are also divided into ranks, just like the ranking system in the Void Arena, except that instead of reputation advancement, they are ranked by kill points.
Reaching each rank requires participating in a challenging promotion match... and if you don't play for a long time, your rank will slowly drop.
Liu Nian thought the name sounded familiar.
This feels more like... a ranked match, a tiered system or something...
"What about the reward?" Sun Eater asked, his eyes wide with interest. He was clearly very interested in the arena!
"There are three types of rewards." Mosh held up two fingers. "One type is the reward for the winner of each gladiatorial match—crystal coins, equipment, materials, etc., which are distributed according to the level and type of the gladiatorial match."
"The second type is where players participating in the competition pledge their own items; if they win, they get their opponent's, and if they lose, they lose their own."
"The last type is ranking rewards," he continued. "The arena distributes rewards every week based on the gladiators' ranking points. Although the prizes are not as generous as those in the Void Arena, the frequency of these rewards makes them quite substantial."
"Are there any titles like 'Void Overlord'?"
"Yes, there is the title of Savage Overlord. This title allows you to freely enter and exit any area of the Savage Fortress without having to rely on reputation to unlock it. It also unlocks the Fortress Lord's personal shop."
Everyone listened with great interest, but Liu Nian still keenly caught a key word that Mosh had mentioned earlier: a life-or-death contract.
He voiced his question, and Mosh's expression turned serious:
"At first, I also thought the death contract was useless, but actually, the death contract is the core meaning of the arena's existence! The death contract is prepared for death matches, which is the most exciting event in the arena! Because once a player participating in a death match dies... their account will be deleted directly."
Liu Nian raised an eyebrow: "So, you mean it can actually cause death, similar to the effect of the Banner of Exile?"
"Yes!" Mosh nodded, "but participation in the competition requires mutual agreement."
Upon hearing this, everyone felt a chill run down their spines.
Liu Nian squinted, remembering that traitor, Matt...
But then he shook his head.
That coward could never fight him to the death.
"Shall we go in and take a look?" Yun Xiangrong asked eagerly.
"No rush," Liu Nian shook his head. "Let's explore the city first. There will be plenty of opportunities later."
The group then continued on their way.
As Mosh walked along, he explained that the Savage Fortress was mainly divided into five areas—
The city gate area: the most chaotic place, with all sorts of vendors and players gathering here, and also the area with the highest concentration of quest giveaways. Every day, countless players form teams, trade, boast, and challenge each other to fights here.
Arena Area: Centered around a huge circular arena, surrounded by casinos, taverns, slave markets, and weapon shops, it is the liveliest place in the Savage Fortress, brightly lit 24 hours a day and always bustling with people.
Tower District: Basically the same as Altavian, it also has the same 'Void Tower'.
The Workshop Area: This is where various guilds are located, and where official quests are posted. Alchemy Guild, Blacksmith Guild, Leatherworking Guild, Enchanting Guild… you name it, there's a branch here. There are also numerous player-run shops, especially those run by goblins.
Lord's Mansion: The city's ruling center, controlled by NPCs from the Savage Faction, whose lord is a dragon.
"How powerful are the snake people here?" Liu Nian asked.
Mosh paused for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Snake people? Very strong! They're one of the top ten powerful races."
Liu Nian raised an eyebrow: "Explain in more detail."
"The main reason is that their clan leader, Riftscale, is very strong, ranking fifth on the combat power list," Mosh said as they walked. "Moreover, there are quite a few snake race players, and they have their own ancestral lands and main cities! They stick together very well, and they have quite a few vassal races as well."
Liu Nian nodded, signaling Mosh to continue.
