Chapter 118 Don't Over-Glorify the Path You Didn't Choose

"Well----"

Li Ran blinked.

But since we've already used straws, it doesn't make a difference.

He still accepted the milk tea.

There were still quite a few pearls left in the cup, and Li Ran poured them directly into her mouth.

Choi Jin-ri rested her chin on her hand and just looked at him.

"Ding-dong~ Ding-dong~"

Li Ran's phone suddenly rang.

"Yo-po-se-yo?"

"Excuse me, is this Li Ran? Your order has arrived. I got to the door but no one was there. Should I leave it at the door or at the collection point?"

What did you buy?

Li Ran was slightly taken aback.

He didn't buy anything online either.

right!

He suddenly remembered that Lee Ji-eun had bought him a guitar a few days ago.

Judging by the time, it should be here by now.

"Is this a guitar?"

Just to be on the safe side, he still asked.

"I don't know, it wasn't written on the order. But it is indeed about the same size as a guitar," the deliveryman replied on the other end of the phone.

"Okay, then please put it on that table in the yard. I'll be back in a bit."

Anyway, there are surveillance cameras in his yard, and they're quite conspicuous.

Surely a thief wouldn't bother coming to his guesthouse courtyard under surveillance cameras to steal something whose exact nature he doesn't even know?

Li Ran hung up the phone.

"You bought a guitar? You can actually play the guitar?" Choi Jin-ri asked two questions in a row.

He scratched his eyebrows, feeling inexplicably guilty for some reason.

"Uh, I didn't buy it. Lee Ji-eun gave it to me, saying she wanted to teach me to play the guitar."

"Know gratitude?"

Choi Jin-ri seemed somewhat surprised.

"Well, mainly because she joked with me at the guesthouse that she would give me a guitar, and I didn't take it seriously, but who would have thought she would actually give it to me. She even said she would teach me how to play the guitar online."

"Have you started learning yet?"

"No." Li Ran shook her head. "How could I learn guitar back then? What was the definition of learning guitar, the meaning of guitar, and its importance?"

"What nonsense is this?"

He shrugged. "That's how easy the courses were when I was in college. And the easier the course, the more demanding the requirements."

"University?" Choi Jin-ri pursed her lips, a hint of envy in her eyes.

If she hadn't become an entertainer, she doesn't know if she would have had the chance to go to university.

"What's wrong?"

Li Ran noticed her unusual behavior and asked her in a low voice.

"It's nothing," she shook her head. "I'm just a little envious that you were able to go to university."

"Uh," he paused slightly.

She smiled and looked at Li Ran, "Do you think things would be different if I hadn't debuted?"

"Well," he scratched his neck, "there's really no need to overly romanticize the path we had no other choice."

"Perhaps the you on another path is envying the you who is now?"

"Really?" She gently bit her lower lip. "I hope so."

"By the way, do you remember what I told you back then, those last wishes I wrote down when I recorded a variety show a long time ago?"

Li Ran nodded. "Of course I remember. I also remember it was raining, and you were wading through the water in your raincoat."

"Then tell me that one of your wishes is to walk in the rain wearing only a raincoat."

He replaced his last wish with his own, just like before.

"You really remember!" Choi Jin-ri was a little happy, seemingly because he remembered what she had casually said back then.

"One of my last wishes was to find time to study in the United States."

"After so many years, I realized that I really didn't have much time. Every day I was either working or on the road rushing to meet someone."

"Then maybe you'll have a chance to fulfill this wish someday?" Li Ran tilted her head and looked at her.

She shook her head. "There's no need to go to the United States. Actually, I think it would be great if I could just attend university on the peninsula."

"If you could rewrite your wish list, what would you write?"

"Um?"

Choi Jin-ri was slightly taken aback, as if she hadn't thought about these issues.

"And what about you? If you were to write a wish list, what would you write?" she countered.

"Hey! I asked you first." Li Ran rolled her eyes.

Choi Jin-ri smiled. "They're pretty much the same! And I'm genuinely curious. Can you tell me about it?"

He glanced at her and shook his head.

"I don't have any particularly big wishes, maybe just things like financial freedom and getting rid of all my troubles."

"Pretty tacky, isn't it?"

No!

She shrugged. "I think it's pretty normal. That's what most people are looking for."

"It's like working just for a paycheck. All that talk about dedication is bullshit."

"A wish is a wish; there's no such thing as vulgarity or elegance in it!"

Li Ran was slightly taken aback and glanced at her.

He poured the last few pearls in the cup into his mouth and then said, "What you said makes a lot of sense."

"It was right from the start."

Li Ran pursed her lips and threw the cup in her hand into the trash can.

"To put it nicely, I'm not very ambitious; to put it bluntly, I'm like a salted fish lying around doing nothing, a piece of mud that can't be plastered on a wall."

"If I could achieve financial freedom, the first thing I'd do is find a place to lie down and relax."

"I don't have to do anything. I can sleep until I naturally wake up every day, eat when I'm hungry, and just space out when I don't feel like doing anything. If I get bored, I can get a cat or a dog or something."

"This is the life I dream of."

Choi Jin-ri blinked. "But isn't that exactly what you're like right now?"

Li Ran pouted, "I'm a million miles away from being financially free."

"I believe that day will definitely come for you."

"However," she smiled slightly, "why does your description of life sound so much like the daily life of an elderly person in retirement?"

"You're only in your twenties and you're already thinking about retirement?"

"So what if you're in your twenties? Does that mean you can't enjoy life?" He scoffed.

"I personally find this kind of life quite comfortable."

"Speaking of which, I've said so much, what about you?"

Li Ran turned to look at her, "If you could rewrite your wish list, what would you write?"

"Hmm," she pursed her lips, "it's probably just some trivial matter."

"For example, going to university, stargazing, or traveling."

"It doesn't sound too difficult, does it?"

Choi Jin-ri forced a smile. "That's probably true for most people."

"But it still feels quite difficult for me."

Looking at her profile, Li Ran remained silent.

That seems to be true.

He scratched his eyebrows, as if he had thought of something, and his eyes lit up.

"Don't overthink it. Luckily, I have paper and a pen. How about we rewrite the wish list?"

Choi Jin-ri was slightly taken aback when she saw Li Ran pull out a pen and paper from who-knows-where.
