Peninsula: I run a bed and breakfast on Jeju Island
Chapter 18 Two-Stage Reversal
The rain hadn't stopped when the noodles were cooked.
Li Ran served two bowls of noodles.
One bowl is tomato and egg noodles, and the other bowl is also tomato and egg noodles.
The two bowls of noodles remained on the tray.
He carried the tray toward Choi Jin-ri's room and knocked on the door with the back of his hand.
"The noodles are ready. I'm coming in!"
"Inside."
Choi Jin-ri leaned against the headboard, wrapped the blanket around herself, and sat up.
Her hair was tied up again, and she looked more energetic than before.
"Which bowl is mine?" she asked, looking at the two bowls of noodles on the tray.
"Whatever, they're all the same."
She took one of the bowls of noodles from Li Ran's hands.
Li Ran took another bowl of noodles and sat down on the chair next to her.
Although Choi Jin-ri was somewhat surprised that he brought noodles to her bedroom to eat, she didn't dare to say anything while eating the noodles Li Ran had made.
The television mounted on the bedroom wall is playing a program.
It seems to be some kind of travel variety show; the weather in the footage is great, with bright sunshine.
Outside the window, the rain was still pouring down.
Xiao Hei appeared out of nowhere, circled around Choi Jin-ri twice, and then found a corner to lie down.
Li Ran glanced down at it, said nothing, and continued eating her noodles.
……
After finishing her noodles, Li Ran put the two bowls away.
After a quick wash, Li Ran stacked the two bowls together by the sink and rinsed her hands under the tap.
Choi Jin-ri was already sitting on the sofa, her phone on her lap, looking down at something.
She felt much better, so she went to sit in the living room.
She had already spent enough time in the bedroom during her first three days at the guesthouse.
The rain outside was sometimes loud and sometimes soft, with occasional rumbles of thunder, creating a muffled sound.
There is naturally a television in the living room.
Li Ran leaned back on the sofa, picked up the remote and changed the channel, but stopped halfway through and just left it there.
There was someone talking on the TV, but he didn't hear what they were saying.
It wasn't study time; it was just lunch break after a meal, so he didn't go to watch TV specifically to practice Korean.
Choi Jin-ri occasionally glances at her phone without saying a word.
The two of them spent the time in the living room.
……
In the afternoon, Li Ran went to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.
He took a sip and stood there in a daze for a while.
He felt a bit heavy-headed, but he thought it was because he hadn't slept well the night before and was feeling sleepy, so he didn't take it seriously.
He carried his water glass back into the living room and sat down on the sofa.
Choi Jin-ri happened to look up at him, but didn't say anything before lowering her head again.
After a while, she looked up at him again.
"Are you alright?" she asked.
"Oh? That's great!" he replied.
She didn't say anything more.
After a while, Li Ran put the water glass on the coffee table, rested her elbows on her knees, and lowered her head.
"Li Ran".
"Huh?" He looked at her dazedly, his movements somewhat slow.
"You don't look well."
He looked up and saw that Choi Jin-ri had put down her phone and was looking at him.
He wanted to say it was nothing, but paused for a moment before opening his mouth.
"He might have a slight fever," he said.
Choi Jin-ri stood up and came to his side.
She raised her hand and placed it on his forehead.
Li Ran stood frozen in place, feeling a chill.
Her hands are a little cold.
At this moment, Li Ran was still pondering some random thoughts.
Choi Jin-ri frowned, then touched her forehead. "It seems I have a fever. Where's the fever reducer?"
Li Ran thought for a moment, "It should be in the cabinet next to the refrigerator in the kitchen, on the second shelf."
Choi Jin-ri stood up. "You lie down on the sofa for a while, I'll go look for it."
After a while, he heard her rummaging through things over there, making quite a bit of noise.
After flipping through it for a while, it stopped again.
"I found the medicine box. Which one is for fever reducers?" she asked from the other end.
The medicines in the first-aid kit were all in Chinese packaging. Choi Jin-ri couldn't tell the difference at first glance.
"A white box with blue writing on it," Li Ran replied.
She rummaged through the medicine box for a while longer, then said, "Found it."
She carried the entire medicine box out and placed it on the coffee table, setting aside the fever reducers separately, before going to pour water.
Li Ran looked down at the medicine box laid out on the coffee table, its contents somewhat disorganized from her rummaging through it.
She handed me the water, saying, "Take your medicine first."
He took it and took the medicine.
Choi Jin-ri tidied up the medicine box, putting the medicine back one by one, looking at it as she did so. If she encountered something she didn't recognize, she would pick it up, look at it, and then put it back.
She paused, found a box of unfamiliar medicine, and asked, "What kind of medicine is this?"
Li Ran glanced at it, "It's for the digestive system."
"Oh." She put it back and continued tidying up.
After tidying up, she closed the medicine box, found a towel, wet it under the tap, wrung it out, and handed it to him, saying, "Apply this to your face first."
He took it and placed the wet towel on his forehead.
"Go lie down in the bedroom first. I'll tidy up for you later," she said.
Li Ran didn't move. "You're not feeling well today either."
"I feel much better," Choi Jin-ri said earnestly.
Li Ran glanced at her.
She remained calm and looked at him.
He didn't say anything more, took the towel down, stood up and walked towards the bedroom.
He paused as he reached the door. "Call me if you need anything."
"What are you yelling for when you're burning up?" Choi Jin-ri shook her head.
He didn't reply, went inside and closed the door.
……
Li Ran didn't know how long she had slept.
The curtains weren't drawn, and it was all gray and hazy outside. The sound of rain was still there, sometimes loud and sometimes soft.
I was half asleep when I heard the door open softly.
He didn't open his eyes at the time.
The footsteps were very light; they paused briefly by the bed, then quietly retreated, the door closing almost silently.
Little Black appeared out of nowhere and curled up next to his bed, not moving.
He closed his eyes, and his consciousness sank again.
He didn't know how much time had passed before he woke up again.
The room grew darker, and the sound of rain outside the window lessened, becoming a fine, rustling sound.
The towel on my forehead is still there, but it's no longer cold; it feels a bit stuffy against my skin.
He took the towel down and squeezed it in his hand.
My throat is a little dry.
He propped himself up and sat on the edge of the bed for a while, his mind slowly starting to work.
There was some noise coming from the living room or the kitchen; something was cooking in a pot, making a soft bubbling sound.
He put on his slippers and walked towards the direction of the sound.
As he approached, he found Choi Jin-ri standing in the kitchen, her back to him, stirring something in front of the stove.
Hearing the noise, she turned around and glanced back. "Awake?"
"Hmm." He walked over to Choi Jin-ri. "Are you cooking?"
She nodded. "I saw a bag of rice on the table, so I just cooked some."
She paused for a moment, then said, "It might not have been cooked very well."
Li Ran glanced at the pot; the rice had already boiled, but it was a bit thick. After stirring, it slowly gathered together again.
"It looks good," he said.
Choi Jin-ri put the spoon down by the stove, turned around to get a bowl, and said, "Go sit down first, I'll serve it and bring it over."
"Alright."
Li Ran nodded, walked back to the living room, and sat down on the sofa.
He glanced at the kitchen and suddenly found it kind of funny.
In the morning, he was taking care of Choi Jin-ri, who was feeling unwell, but in the afternoon, the situation reversed completely.
It became Choi Jin-ri taking care of him when he had a fever.
