Peninsula: I run a bed and breakfast on Jeju Island
Chapter 50 A Chance Encounter...
Li Ran stared at herself in the mirror for a while.
The hair on both sides covered her ears, and the wispy strands in front covered her eyes.
He rubbed his hair and decided to go to the barbershop to get it fixed right away.
Anyway, the first month of the lunar calendar is already over.
Moreover, he didn't have an uncle.
He walked out the door and closed it behind him.
The barbershop was in a narrow alley; he had passed by it before and remembered its approximate location.
The storefront wasn't large, and there was a potted green ivy with glossy leaves placed at the entrance.
He pushed open the door and went inside, only to find a barber sitting in a chair scrolling through his phone.
Seeing someone come in, the barber stood up and greeted them.
Li Ran explained in Korean that the bangs were too long and needed to be cut shorter and trimmed.
The barber nodded, gesturing for him to sit down.
He draped a cloth around Li Ran's neck and then began to brandish scissors.
Before he could even finish cutting the hair, the other person started chatting, asking him where he was from and how long he had been in Jeju Island.
Li Ran dealt with each of them one by one, saying that she ran a bed and breakfast.
The barber became interested and started talking about the tourism industry in Jeju Island over the past two years. As he talked, he mentioned that his cousin also wanted to open a bed and breakfast, asking him if the investment was large and if it was difficult to run.
It seems like there are always people who can talk a lot, no matter where you are.
He encountered one today.
Li Ran watched her head being moved around in the mirror and responded half-heartedly.
After finishing his haircut and leaving the house, he stood at the alley entrance for a moment, checked the time, and saw it was just past eleven o'clock.
He thought for a moment, then stopped by a convenience store on the way, bought some snacks, and then headed back.
……
When Lee Ji-eun arrived at the entrance of the guesthouse, she glanced at the time.
11:40.
The outdoor shoot was cancelled early today due to lighting issues; they said they would resume shooting in the evening.
It's also possible that the production team of this GG series currently has a sufficient budget.
She was given a rare half-day off.
She pushed open the courtyard gate; it was quiet inside.
Xiao Hei raised its head and glanced at her, swept its tail on the ground twice, and then put its chin back on its paws.
She changed into slippers and went inside. After taking a few steps, she called out, "Li Ran-xi?"
No one answered.
She glanced towards the kitchen, but there was no movement.
There was no sound from the other end of the corridor.
His bedroom door was open, and Brin came out.
But Li Ran was still nowhere to be seen.
She seemed to be the only person left in the entire guesthouse.
Lee Ji-eun looked around, then draped her coat over the back of the sofa, tossed her shoes aside, and flopped onto the sofa, resting her legs on the armrests.
She picked up her phone and scrolled through her messages.
The agent sent a confirmation of tomorrow's schedule.
She replied "Okay," and then put her phone back on her stomach.
Brin nestled in her cat bed next to the sofa, sprawled out on her back with her belly up.
There are more than one cat bed and one dog bed in the guesthouse.
Sometimes they'll lie down in one spot if they like this one day, and lie down in another spot if they like that one tomorrow, taking turns.
Lee Ji-eun felt that Brin was particularly relaxed at the guesthouse.
At least it's more relaxing than when I was at her house.
She rarely saw Bullin in this sprawled, belly-exposed position when she helped feed it before.
Little Black was fiddling with something in the yard, and occasionally the sound of its claws scratching the ground could be heard.
The entire guesthouse was very quiet.
Lee Ji-eun stared at the ceiling.
The wind outside the window lifted a corner of the curtains, then let them fall back down, back and forth.
She just lay there, her mind blank, slowly emptying her thoughts.
Then suddenly the melody of a song popped up.
It's a new song that we've been working on in the recording studio lately. We've recorded it countless times, and it keeps running through our minds.
Since she had nothing better to do anyway, she moved her lips and hummed a couple of lines.
Feeling that simply humming wasn't enough, she decided to include the lyrics as well and raise her voice a bit.
I didn't care about pronunciation or breath control, I just went with my gut feeling and picked out the ending sounds whenever I wanted.
She was still nestled on the sofa, her legs propped up on the armrests, and as she sang along smoothly, her toes tapped lightly to the rhythm.
It's much more relaxing than being in a recording studio.
In her view, entering the recording studio immediately puts her into work mode.
Work and daily life are definitely two different things.
Just like ordinary office workers don't put much effort into dressing up for work.
Makeup and such are only done on weekends.
In the recording studio, Lee Ji-eun usually puts on her headphones and begins the process of meticulously refining every detail.
If any detail is wrong, start repeating it.
At the guesthouse, she sang casually, without worrying about whether she was off-key or using the right techniques.
The song drifted out, and the wind blew in through the window, mingling with it.
Lee Ji-eun seemed to relax as well.
She sang the chorus again.
Her head swayed gently to the rhythm, preparing to do it again.
There was a knock at the door.
"Squeak~"
Her voice abruptly stopped in her throat.
She pulled her legs off the armrest, put both feet on the ground, sat up straight, and placed her hands on her knees.
Within a second, she adjusted herself into a proper sitting posture.
Li Ran pushed open the door and came in carrying a bag. After changing her shoes, she saw Li Zhi'en sitting upright on the sofa.
He paused slightly.
Lee Ji-eun's hair was still a bit messy, and her slippers were crooked next to the sofa, one upright and one upside down.
He looked away, put the bag on the coffee table, and said, "Why are you back so early?"
"I finished work early today," Lee Ji-eun replied.
"Oh." He nodded.
Li Ran sat down on the sofa and took things out of the bag: potato chips, cookies, and two cans of drinks, which she then placed on the coffee table.
"I went to the convenience store and bought some snacks to see if there was anything I wanted to eat."
Lee Ji-eun accepted the drink he offered.
Li Ran picked up a bag of potato chips, tore it open, and grabbed a chip to eat.
"The filming went so smoothly today, why did we wrap up early?" he asked casually.
"The director felt the lighting wasn't right, so we couldn't film outdoors. He said we'd do it later."
Lee Ji-eun held the beverage can and shifted her gaze to the side.
There was a moment of silence.
"By the way, were you singing just now?" he asked.
"Just humming a tune." She stiffened slightly and took a sip of her drink.
"What's the song called? It sounds pretty good." He blinked.
"It hasn't been released yet, it's a new song."
"I see!" He nodded.
"Jinri used to play your songs at the guesthouse all the time, like 'Red Queen' and the like."
Upon hearing Choi Jin-ri's name, Lee Ji-eun's eyes relaxed.
"Really?" She revealed a smug smile.
He pushed the bag of potato chips toward her.
Lee Ji-eun reached out and grabbed two pieces.
Brin strolled out at that moment, jumped onto the sofa, sat down next to her, and sniffed at the bag of potato chips.
"You can't eat this." She moved the bag away.
Its stomach is too sensitive to the stimulation of potato chips.
Brin turned her head to the other side, looking indifferent.
I don't really want to eat it either, and besides, you're really pretending.
Li Ran patted its head and mentally provided a voiceover for Brin.
Hey.
