Chapter 83 Rainbow

Li Ran stood up and began to clear the dishes.

He crushed the empty Sprite can, and the aluminum shell made a crisp sound.

Lee Ji-eun also helped tidy up.

She stacked the bowls together and then picked them up.

She glanced out the window out of the corner of her eye.

"Um?"

Her movements paused slightly.

"Is that a rainbow?"

Upon hearing this, Li Ran also glanced out the window.

A colorful "feather" is pasted on the clear blue sky.

Its colors are fluid, like watercolors spreading in a gentle breeze.

"This is the first time I've ever seen a rainbow that looks like feathers."

He put the bowl and chopsticks back on the table and looked outside.

Lee Ji-eun also put the bowl and chopsticks back on the table.

"Shall we go out and take a look?" she said.

A rainbow seen through a window is certainly not as intuitive or clear as one seen directly from the outside.

"Okay." Li Ran nodded.

The two went out the door.

Hearing the noise, Xiao Hei shook its ears and trotted after the two.

"Why do you always want to join in on every little excitement?" Li Ran glanced down at it.

"Woof."

Little Black raised its head and barked, but it was hard to tell if that counted as a response.

Lee Ji-eun couldn't help but smile.

The light in the courtyard was very bright, and Lee Ji-eun subconsciously squinted her eyes.

The rainbow was hanging in the sky directly in front of me, slightly to the right, and it was much clearer than when I saw it through the glass indoors.

It was a curved feather, slanted into a gap in the clouds, its edges slightly flared, as if someone had casually wiped it with a damp towel.

Red, orange, yellow, green—the order of the rainbow colors is very clear.

Lee Ji-eun looked up and stared at the "feather" for a while.

"What's this shape of rainbow called again?"

Li Ran shook her head. "I don't know."

"These aren't the classic rainbow patterns; most of them seem to be related to ice crystal diffraction, right?" he added, his tone uncertain.

"The classic style uses a water droplet pattern."

"What do you mean by 'classic'? Are you buying something?" Lee Ji-eun smiled.

Li Ran shrugged. "Anyway, most rainbows in my memory are arched. Calling them the classic style isn't wrong!"

That seems to make sense.

Lee Ji-eun blinked, took out her phone, and took a picture of the sky.

The rainbow only occupied a small part of the viewfinder, with most of the frame filled with a vast blue sky, making the "feather" look rather lonely.

She changed the angle again, incorporating the eaves to balance the composition.

The little black dog next to them had no idea what they were doing.

It lowered its head and sniffed around in the haystack, and finally, after discovering something, it excitedly dug at the dirt twice.

Li Ran glanced at it but didn't pay it any mind.

"Um?"

"Woof!"

A grasshopper suddenly darted out and headed straight for Lee Ji-eun's calf.

"ah!"

She was startled by the object that suddenly flew out and instinctively dodged to the side.

Li Ran was amused by her reaction.

Are you afraid of grasshoppers?

"If something suddenly flies out and your brain doesn't even have time to process it, you're bound to be startled!" She rolled her eyes and patted her leg.

"But your reaction is a bit too much," he said with a laugh.

"Try having something suddenly fly past your legs," Lee Ji-eun retorted irritably.

The grasshopper landed on the edge of the grass, and then somehow hopped off somewhere else.

Xiao Hei went closer and sniffed around the ground, but still couldn't find it.

It reluctantly raised its head.

The rainbow in the sky has begun to fade slowly.

The once distinct colors at the edges were gradually blurred by the clouds, leaving only a faint layer of iridescent light hanging there.

Lee Ji-eun took another photo with her phone.

The colors in this photo aren't as vibrant as they were before.

"The color faded so quickly." She stared at the rainbow in the photo and pursed her lips.

"Most rainbows seem to be like that, right?" Li Ran scratched his eyebrows. "They only last for a few minutes."

"Thinking about it that way, it seems pretty fair," Lee Ji-eun said softly.

"Huh? What?" He was a little confused.

"Because it existed for a short time, people would specifically stop to see it."

She looked down at the photos she had just taken, saying, "If it were hanging in the sky every day, I guess no one would bother to look up."

Li Ran thought about it and it seemed to make sense.

Things are rare.

If this thing had always been in the sky, they probably wouldn't be paying as much attention to it as they are now.

Lee Ji-eun put her phone back in her pocket and looked up at it again.

Only a small section of the rainbow remains.

The yellowish-green color still clung to the edge of the cloud, but the edges had completely blurred, like a stain that hadn't been washed clean. In a little while, even that little bit would probably be gone.

The courtyard was very quiet.

"If we're going to follow the style of the TV series, shouldn't there be music now?" Lee Ji-eun suddenly asked.

"Huh?" Li Ran was a little confused.

"Don't TV dramas usually add music when they show certain scenery?" she explained.

"But the problem is that reality isn't a TV drama." He was somewhat amused and exasperated.

"How do you add music in real life? Like a helicopter suddenly appearing and playing music?"

"Wouldn't I get criticized if I actually wrote it like that?"

Lee Ji-eun pouted, seemingly finding it somewhat boring.

"Aren't you a singer? If you really can't, just hum a tune right here," Li Ran said casually, his hands in his pockets.

Lee Ji-eun glanced at him, raised an eyebrow, and said, "If I wanted you to play an instrument to accompany me, would you be okay with that?"

"The problem is I don't know how!" He shrugged.

"I've never learned a musical instrument."

"I have absolutely no artistic talent."

Lee Ji-eun pursed her lips. "I don't believe it. You're practically bursting with artistic talent. But, well, your artistic ability isn't exactly obvious."

He shook his head, not taking it seriously.

"If all else fails, you can beg me and I might consider teaching you," she said, slightly raising her chin.

Li Ran raised an eyebrow. "You play many musical instruments?"

"Not much," she drawled slightly, "just a simple guitar, piano, recorder, drums, electric guitar, and stuff like that."

"Tsk."

He glanced at the sky again; the rainbow feather above his head had completely disappeared.

He walked into the house with his hands behind his back.

Lee Ji-eun frowned slightly and followed, "Hey! Why aren't you saying a word?"

"I'm not planning to be an artist or anything, so why would I want to learn a musical instrument?" Li Ran blinked. "Besides, you're leaving the guesthouse tomorrow. What would I teach?"

She paused slightly and gestured with her lips.

"Who said I can't teach? I have a phone. I'll just treat it as online classes!"

Upon hearing the words "online classes," Li Ran blinked.

He knew best, in his past life, how effective online classes were.
