Chapter 83 Wanda's Abuse of Magic
Chapter 83 Wanda's Abuse of Magic
Wanda woke up from her dream.
It wasn't the kind of nightmare where I was awakened by the sound of missile explosions, but a different kind of dream.
In his dream, Lin Yan sat on the old chair by the window, holding a coffee in his hand, looking out at the morning.
He turned and glanced at her, just once, and then she woke up.
The morning light peeked through the gaps in the curtains and fell on the pendant on the bedside table.
Wanda raised her hand to rub her eyes, went over the scene from her dream in her mind again, and then shook her head to wake herself up.
She threw back the covers and got out of bed.
She was all alone in the apartment.
Pietro rented a small villa on the other side of town last week, saying something like, "I'm an Avenger now, I can't still be sleeping on the sofa," and then moved out.
Wanda didn't stop him, but she herself didn't want to move.
This apartment was where she and Pietro had lived for several years. There were photo albums left by her mother on the wall, flowers left by Lin Yan on the windowsill, and the water heater that only worked after three knocks.
She didn't want to go anywhere.
She walked into the kitchen wearing that loose bathrobe and reached for the coffee can in the cupboard.
The collar of her robe hung loosely over her collarbone, slightly open, and slipped down a bit as she tiptoed, revealing a large expanse of fair skin.
It's rare to see a sixteen-year-old Sokovian girl with a figure like hers.
Her full curves, extending from her collarbone downwards, outlined a mature silhouette that was completely at odds with her youthful face. The silk fabric clung to her, like wrapping two heavy fruits.
With her busy work, the coffee was ready.
Wanda took her cup and walked to the windowsill, looking down at the plant.
Those were the flowers Lin Yan left behind before he left. The leaves were still green, and they had grown taller than before.
She gently touched one of the leaves with her finger, and as her fingertip touched the surface of the leaf, the chaos magic flickered very slightly.
This potted plant, I don't know which timeline Lin Yan pulled it out of using the Time Stone, every leaf is green, quiet and steadfast.
She remembered that dream again.
In her dream, when Lin Yan looked back at her, there seemed to be a slight curve at the corner of his mouth.
She stood by the window with her coffee in hand, a slow smile spreading across her face, before realizing she was grinning foolishly at the potted plant.
She finished the last sip of coffee, placed the cup on the windowsill, and turned to change her clothes.
The wardrobe was opened, and it was filled with red clothes lately, the same color as her chaotic magic.
She pulled her long hair out from her collar and looked at herself in the mirror.
The red fabric draped over her full figure, outlining a curve that blended youthful innocence with maturity, giving her still somewhat childish face an indescribable charm.
"It would be better if I were a little more mature," Wanda thought to herself, feeling somewhat tempted.
After changing her clothes, Wanda walked to the entrance and opened the door, only to find someone standing there.
Lin Yan stood at the door.
He was still wearing that dark gray coat, and had a slight smile on his face, as if he had known all along that she would open the door at this time.
Wanda's fingers froze on the doorknob, as if she had been put on pause.
Then she reached out and touched Lin Yan's cheek very lightly with her fingers.
The sensation of her fingertips touching her skin was real, not an illusion created by her chaotic magic.
The next second she crashed into his arms, her arms tightly wrapped around his back.
Lin Yan was knocked back half a step by her and gently patted the back of her head.
"I haven't been gone for very long."
Wanda didn't speak, she just buried her face in his chest, her ears burning red.
Lin Yan glanced down at her. "Alright, there are other people in this apartment."
Wanda still didn't look up.
She gripped his coat tightly from the back with both hands.
"I paid rent here, didn't I? Won't they let me in?"
"Yes, yes, of course." Wanda quickly let go, took a step back, and hurriedly made way for him.
Her appearance was completely at odds with her radiant look in that red dress. Just moments ago, she was the slightly naive yet already charming young woman in the mirror, but now she stood at the door like a child caught stealing snacks.
She pulled Lin Yan's sleeve and led him inside, muttering, "There's still hot coffee, and some freshly brewed coffee in the kitchen. Would you like a cup? I'll make you one." Then, she froze when she reached the bedroom door.
She has been sleeping in Lin Yan's old room these days.
It wasn't for any other reason than that the room contained traces left by Lin Yan.
She liked to stay in this room and fall asleep in the lingering scent of him, as if he had never left. After Pietro moved out, no one cared about her anymore, so she simply took over the room, moving her clothes, pendants, and other things there.
The silk robe she had changed out of last night was still scattered on the bed, and a novel that was half-read was next to the pillow.
She rushed in, grabbed her bathrobe, stuffed it under the covers, and then pulled the covers up to cover the pile of unsightly things.
After she finished doing all that, she turned around and saw Lin Yan leaning against the door frame watching her busy herself, with the same unchanging smile on her face. The blush on her cheeks was even hotter than the stove fire she had just used to make coffee.
"The flowers are well grown."
Lin Yan didn't look at Wanda, but walked to the windowsill and looked down at the potted plant.
It has grown taller since he left, with lush, green leaves and moist, soft soil, showing that it is being carefully cared for every day.
"I've been practicing these past few days." Wanda stood behind him, her fingers unconsciously twisting the pendant, but her chin was slightly raised, and her voice carried a rare hint of pride.
"I have mastered chaos magic very well."
She stretched out her hand, and a faint red light shone from her fingertips.
It was no longer the trembling light it had when it first awakened, but a stable, rhythmically breathing crimson halo.
The sunlight shone on her face, tinting her gray-green pupils with a faint blush.
Then she remembered what she had done with chaos magic last night, and her face flushed red. The ball of light at her fingertips bounced with her emotions before she quickly withdrew it.
"Not bad." Lin Yan shifted his gaze from the plants to her face. "Nick Fury invited you to join the Avengers?"
Wanda nodded, her fingers twisting the pendant again. "Lin—shouldn't I join?"
She subtly changed how she addressed Lin Yan, a subtle change that made her heart race; she wasn't even sure if Lin Yan had heard her.
Lin Yan heard it, of course, and knew what she was thinking.
"Of course I'll join." He leaned against the windowsill, his hands in his pockets. "The Avengers are a crucial node in this universe; joining won't do you any harm."
