Chapter 84 Dinner

The noise from the kitchen had been going on non-stop since the afternoon.

Wanda, wearing an old apron she'd bought from the grocery store, with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, was busily working at the stove.

She chopped vegetables skillfully, the soup simmering in the pot was steaming, the bread in the oven was slowly rising, and the whole apartment was filled with a warm aroma.

Wanda took two plates out of the cupboard, held them up to the light to check for watermarks, then put them back on the table and turned to check the heat in the pot.

She had been working on the menu since this morning, and the ingredients were bought in the afternoon; she spent a long time choosing each one.

In the living room, Lin Yan leaned back on the sofa with his eyes closed. The starlight in front of him kept changing shape, forming runes of various shapes.

He was working on the exercise method he had previously mentioned to the group.

That was his own cultivation system, simpler than the spells of Kamar-Taj and more fundamental than the magic of talismans.

This set of exercises can fundamentally overturn the framework of being a "human being".

"Lin!" Wanda poked her head out from the kitchen, a little flour on her cheek. "Dinner's ready."

Lin Yan responded and finished the last rune, the starlight fading away.

Wanda had arranged the dining table quite nicely, not with the sophistication of a high-end restaurant, but with a thoughtful simplicity.

The tablecloth had been changed, and in the middle was a small pot of flowers she had taken down from the windowsill. The plant that Lin Yan had watered with the Time Gem stood quietly in the center of the dining table.

The menu was limited: stewed meat, vegetable soup, a few golden-brown breads, and a decent-looking dessert.

"Did you make this?" Lin Yan sat down, picked up a fork, and took a bite of the stew.

It tasted much better than he had imagined.

The meat was stewed until tender, and the seasonings were just right.

"Not bad, you have a real talent for cooking."

Wanda stood beside the dining table, her fingers subtly twisting the edge of her apron, a hint of barely suppressed smugness lurking in her expression.

She took off her apron and draped it over the back of the chair, then sat down opposite Lin Yan, the smile on her lips never fading.

"What are you looking at?" She noticed Lin Yan's gaze lingering on her face for several seconds, and subconsciously raised her hand to wipe the powder stains off her face.

They still wiped the wrong half of her face.

"The left side," Lin Yan said.

Wanda changed the direction of her finger and wiped it again.

"No, the other side."

Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she wiped the flour stains off twice more before she could get rid of them.

She tucked her stray hairs behind her ear, but after a few seconds she couldn't help but laugh.

"I used to cook for Pietro, so I wasn't sure what kind of flavor you liked. Last time when I made coffee, you thought it was too bitter, so this time I added a little bit of honey to the stew."

She didn't look up, but her voice grew softer and softer, the last syllable almost drifting into the soup bowl.

"Very good, just my taste." Lin Yan put his fork on the side of the plate, picked up the bread next to him, broke off a piece and put it in his mouth.

Wanda looked up, her eyes sparkling.

She put a piece of stewed meat into Lin Yan's bowl, then put one for herself, and began to ramble on about what had happened in the past few days.

Pietro dismantled Hawkeye's favorite boxing robot at the S.H.I.E.L.D. training ground. Hawkeye wasn't angry; instead, he enrolled Pietro in a mechanical repair course. Natasha taught her some close-quarters combat techniques and gave her a gun. Steve, on the other hand, continued training and occasionally went on missions.

As for that playboy Stark, Wanda and Pietro can simply be ignored.

"Oh, right, they said there's another member scheduled, Dr. Banner, but he rarely shows up."

Lin Yan nodded.

Banner, Rogers, Stark, Natasha, and Barton—these are all members of the Avengers from The Avengers. Now, all that's missing is Thor. But it shouldn't be long.

The timeline matches up; Loki should be arriving with the Chitauri army around that time.

He looked at Wanda and said, "You need to practice your chaos magic more during this time, especially your reaction to high-intensity external forces."

Wanda nodded, gently pushed the soup bowl aside, and listened attentively.

"There's more." Lin Yan stretched out his hand, and starlight gathered in his palm.

It was no longer the constantly changing rune fragments that had been on the sofa, but a complete, quietly floating talisman.

A lifelike dog totem is carved on the rock-like surface, with divine power slightly overflowing from the surface, glowing with a faint light in the twilight.

"The Dog Talisman, this talisman can prevent you from dying, but of course, it won't work if the Goddess of Death herself comes."

The talisman floated up from his palm and landed in Wanda's palm.

Wanda caught it with both hands, looked down at the talisman engraved with a dog's head totem, and gently stroked the patterns on the talisman with her fingertips.

She looked up at Lin Yan, her lips moved as if she wanted to ask something, but she didn't say it.

"After all, talismans are just external forces. Too many talismans will conflict with your chaos magic, so you only have one."

Lin Yan raised his hand, and another talisman appeared.

"Give this dog charm to Pietro."

Lin Yan remembered that in the movie, Pietro was shot in the chest and died. Putting aside the fact that Quicksilver, the representative of Marvel's speedster, couldn't even dodge a bullet, even if he couldn't dodge it, he shouldn't have taken the bullet with his own chest.

"Is something about to happen?" Wanda pushed the soup bowl aside, her fingers unconsciously twisting the pendant around her neck.

She was a very sensitive girl, and from the moment Lin Yan glanced at her, she had a vague premonition.

"There will be a major battle in New York soon. An alien army will invade Earth, and Nick Fury will definitely gather you all."

Lin Yan placed the napkin on the side of the plate, looked into Wanda's eyes, and said, "You two will definitely be there too."

Wanda's fingers touched the pendant on her chest.

The warm pendant rested on her palm, and Wanda remained silent for a long while, her head bowed.

"Are you concerned about me?" Wanda couldn't help but ask.

Outside the window, the last rays of twilight sank below the horizon of Sokovia.

The lights in the general store across the street were already on, and the leaves of the potted plant swayed gently in the night breeze.

Lin Yan stood up and walked to Wanda's side, reaching out to ruffle a strand of hair on her head.

"Don't think too much, little one. Go to sleep now."

Wanda blushed and hugged Lin Yan's waist tightly, clinging to him and refusing to let go.

She was a head shorter than him, her face buried in his chest, her voice muffled as it came from inside his clothes, "I'm eighteen already."

She rubbed her face against his coat, her hair getting all messy, and the blush from her ears spread all the way down to her neck. She tightened her arms around him, looking like a koala that refused to come down from a tree.

Lin Yan looked down at the strand of hair sticking up on the top of her head, reached out and pressed it down and ruffled it. "Eighteen years old is still a child."

"no!"
