Indian Hill Laboratory.

Dr. Hugo stood beside the metal dissection table, looking down at the boy lying under the white sheet.

Peter's face was bruised and swollen, lifeless, but there was no sadness in Hugo's eyes, only an almost morbid excitement.

The boy in front of me is a corpse, but to someone like him, he is an unopened blind box.

Different people with different biological DNA will produce amazing chemical reactions. It sounds unscientific, but it is true.

After a long period of experimentation, Hugo discovered that when a person's certain personality traits are particularly prominent, their success rate is also higher.

"Peter, Peter, good boy."

Hugo's fingers gently brushed across Peter's cold forehead, and a slow smile spread across his face.

"Brave people are best suited to be my masterpieces."

His voice was a little hoarse, but his eyes shone with barely suppressed excitement:

"Ms. Peabody, what DNA do you think suits him best?"

"Um......"

Ms. Peabody stood in the shadows, impeccably dressed in a women's suit.

She adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and opened the notebook in her hand to read.

As Hugo's assistant, she was well aware of his unpredictable temper, so she would prepare useful information in advance and write it down in her notebook.

"News has come from Blackgate Prison that Peter was a great fan of a story called Spider-Man."

"If the resurrection experiment is successful, the subsequent brainwashing will be much easier. I think spider DNA is the most suitable choice."

"A spider, huh..."

Hugo nodded slightly, his gaze returning to Peter's face.

"The current DNA fragment is not very stable yet, but..."

He knew Ms. Peabody was right.

Today, the electrical technology used in electrocution has filled the final piece of the puzzle from that failed experiment a decade ago.

The technology to revive the dead is now nearly complete.

The only drawback is that neither of the two experimental subjects who were successfully resurrected so far had any past memories.

The absence of past memories means that these experimental subjects have no past personality; they are a blank slate.

The blank space means that these experimental subjects are very uncontrollable and have a great risk of getting out of control.

Those in power felt that this technology was not mature enough; what they wanted was a resurrection with memories intact, not the current state.

But Hugo didn't see this as a flaw; rather, he saw it as a gift from heaven.

Without memories, there is no past; without attachments, there is no hesitation.

They will only be tools in his hands, perfect, obedient tools.

Hugo's breathing became rapid, and his eyes shone with a fanatical light.

He could already feel the constant flow of inspiration in his mind!

"You truly are a gift from God, Peter."

Hugo gently placed his hand on the boy's bruised face and coldly gave the order:

"Then implant spider DNA into him and give him a second life."

Peabody closed his notebook and nodded slightly.

"I'll arrange it right away."

The laboratory gradually quieted down, leaving only Hugo's increasingly heavy breathing.

He leaned down, close to Peter's ear, and whispered:

"You will become the most perfect one, I promise."

"So what exactly happened?"

Selena quietly approached Bruce, looked at Dio who was radiating a low-pressure aura, and whispered a question.

Bruce glanced at Dio, shook his head, and was about to say something—

Peter is dead.

Dior overheard their entire whisper and said in a deep voice.

Today's events served as a wake-up call for him, making him realize just how dangerous this situation truly was.

After only a brief investigation, Peter was quickly imprisoned in Blackgate Prison, where he died that very night.

This death was similar to that of Thomas Wayne; the other party investigated him briefly before he was quickly shot.

In their eyes, Gotham's richest man and the lower class are probably no different; neither of them are human.

Dio's face grew increasingly grim until a hand patted his shoulder.

"How are you?"

Selena's voice came from above.

Dior turned his head and met a pair of somewhat flustered eyes.

"Um?"

Seeing this, Selena withdrew her hand as if burned, her attempt to cover up the situation only making matters worse.

"I'm not worried about you, I mean, you haven't encountered any danger or anything, have you? Could you have implicated me?"

"Probably not, I think we need to think this through more carefully."

"Is it because of Indian Hill?"

Bruce also walked over, glancing indifferently at Selena before looking at Dio:

"Peter was your informant? How did he die? Didn't you have the police protecting him?"

"It's those guys."

Dio felt a surge of anger rising within him whenever he thought about Peter!

That idiot Peter wouldn't take the money even when offered it, he insisted on stealing the car.

And those debts, he could wipe them out with just a word.

But it's too late to say anything now.

Dio's fist hardened again, but then he sighed, remembering Peter's bloodless face.

What he needs to consider now is what to do with Gotham City's intelligence network after Peter's death.

Finding a talented person with decent character is easy in other cities, but in Gotham, it's incredibly difficult!

Selena looked at Dio's expression, which seemed to want to smash the table but was trying to hold back, her face full of hesitation.

Should I comfort him?

A voice quietly emerged in the girl's heart.

Selena opened her mouth, then closed it again.

She glanced at Bruce, her eyes pleading for help.

Yes, she chickened out.

Dior left a deep impression on her; he was sharp-tongued and concerned with his image. If she tried to comfort him, she would definitely be mocked in return.

Bruce took a deep breath, shook his head, and something suddenly popped into his mind:

"By the way, Gordon's girlfriend, Dr. Lee Tompkins, invited us to a charity dinner yesterday."

A charity gala?

"Charity Gala!"

Selena was a little excited!

God knows how long it's been since she's had a proper meal!

"Um?"

Dio looked at Selena in surprise.

Why are you so agitated?

"Cough cough."

Selena's eyes lit up, but she quickly suppressed them, clearing her throat as if to appear calm:

"Dio, as your teacher, I feel it's necessary to attend the dinner to verify your recent learning progress."

"Learning outcomes? You want me to steal something at a banquet?"

Dior's first reaction was that Selena had gone mad, and his second was that she really had gone mad.

"You only taught me for one day!"

"Then I'll go and demonstrate it for you."

Selena, quite self-righteous, even placed her hand on the other person's shoulder and patted it:

"Didn't you want to learn the thought process? How about a live demonstration?"

"Your saliva is dripping on me."

Dior slapped the hand off his shoulder, glanced at Selena, but didn't say he refused.

"Um...."

Bruce nodded, looking at the somewhat angry Selena, and explained:

"He means he agreed."

"Bruce!!!"
