Warhammer: My buddy has too many secrets!

Chapter 36 The Collins Expedition

The commander of the Malakin battle group turned serious at this moment.

They were fully aware of the power of the Chaos forces of the Eye of Fear; they had been sent to thwart the Ninth Black Crusade launched by Chaos under the orders of the High Lord.

Because the concept of time does not exist in the warp, even after leaving the warp and arriving many years later, the Chapter Master of Malakin still cares about his original duties.

Even though the Ninth Black Crusade has ended, as Chapter Master, he must think more than his fellow warriors.

In just one day, by receiving astral messages from the outside world, the commander of the Malakin Warband discovered that the current situation in the Empire was more tense than it had been a hundred years ago.

The fortress planet of Kadia will be of paramount importance, and will also be the center of the Chaos army's attack.

As Lancelot listened to his words and analysis, he was momentarily surprised by the Chapter Commander.

As a transmigrator familiar with the plot, Lancelot naturally knew that Abaddon, the invincible Chaos Warmaster in the Eye of Terror, would completely destroy the planet Cardia through Blackrock Fortress during the 13th Black Crusade, thus creating a great rift that would tear the entire galaxy apart.

But nothing has happened yet.

Amidst the chaotic battlefields of various battlefronts and alternating star languages, this Chapter Leader of the Lamenters was surprisingly able to astutely grasp the strategic importance of Kadia in the eyes of those Chaos factions within a single day.

Such forward-looking vision is extremely rare for the entire empire.

After all, the human empire is not lacking in warriors, but it is eager for visionary commanders.

Don't you see that your Uncle Dante has been working overtime for a thousand years? Ask him if he would be willing to relinquish the title of Commander if a younger person with more ability than him appeared?

In other universes, the title of Commander might be a prestigious and elegant title, but in the Warhammer world, it is undoubtedly the most torturous job. It's like being the Imperium's hardest brick, picked up and smashed wherever an alien dares to mess with you...

Commander of the Malakin Warband, your future looks bleak. When the thirteenth prince wakes up and wants to work for him, I'll introduce you to him.

Lancelot looked wistful, and the Commander of the Malakin Chapter, mistaking Lancelot's expression for pessimism about the Empire's situation, quickly said:

"However, there is also good news. The Empire recently launched a great victory known as the Macarius Expedition, in which a mortal Sun Lord led a fleet to conquer more than 1000 planets."

"This is truly a glorious achievement."

Lancelot was somewhat aware of this, so he nodded without much concern. The Sun Lord's expedition was indeed heroic and moving, but once he died, the empire would still be the same empire. The lifespan of mortals was ultimately too short, so it was time for Robert to take over.

"Any news from the Ultramarines side?"

Lancelot then asked a more crucial question, to which the Chapter Master Malakin replied:

"Our Star Language has just been sent out. The brothers with white scars did not send back any information, but they did receive an expeditionary mobilization order from Ultramarines Chapter Commander Karlga."

Commander Malakin pointed to an area and then explained to Lancelot:

"It seems that there is a large group of green-skinned orcs in the Limitless Starfield who have occupied multiple planets and have even begun to threaten the Ultramarines' homeworld, Alteramar. In order to destroy this group of orcs, Lord Karga launched the Collins Expedition."

"Is it about this...?"

Lancelot snapped out of his daze upon hearing this, then looked at the wailing figure before him, his expression slightly silent.

The Collins Expedition was a turning point for the Lamenters.

The green-skinned orcs enslaved 300 million humans on the mining planet Slaughterhouse III, which they occupied, and threw them into hellish mines to be exploited to death.

Calgary originally did not intend to attack, but the Weeping Ones, who cared about mortals, volunteered for the battle, and Calgary reluctantly agreed. However, for the sake of the overall plan, he would not send reinforcements or provide logistical support. Even so, the Weeping Ones still chose to attack!

As the Lamenters, who primarily employ blitzkrieg tactics, they possess numerous air vehicles, but correspondingly lack ground firepower.

However, this did not affect the course of the war: in an air raid, they destroyed the orbital defenses very quickly, the Lamenters crushed the orcish garrison within hours, the freed slaves also spontaneously revolted, and all 300 million people were rescued.

But as the orc forces returned to reinforce, the Lamenters discovered to their despair that they did not have enough ships to evacuate 300 million civilians. In desperation, the Legion's technical sergeants even considered researching the orc ships in order to take the people away.

As the main orc fleet was about to return to reinforce, the Lamenters resolutely decided to stay behind alone to cover the retreat and fight to the death, buying time for their withdrawal.

The battle was exceptionally brutal. Among the Weeping Ones, whose genetic defects had been modified, a large number of warriors inevitably fell into the Black Rage, resulting in more than half of them being killed or wounded.

In the final battle, the rescued civilians volunteered to detonate the mine, sacrificing themselves so as not to burden the weeping crowd.

They would die as loyal citizens of the Empire, not as slaves of the orcs. The Weeping Ones could only weep as they detonated the earthquake bombs scattered throughout the mines, turning the entire planet into a giant tomb. Fewer than 100 Weeping Ones remained, and ultimately, less than one-tenth of the citizens successfully evacuated.

The mourners considered it a disgrace: the legion had suffered such heavy losses, yet could not save more citizens.

However, from the perspective of the overall battle situation, their valiant efforts were undoubtedly an outstanding action from every angle.

The resistance of the weeping ones and the tenacious fighting spirit of the civilians completely disrupted the orcs' defenses, tore through their supply lines, and allowed friendly forces to severely damage the orcs' main fleet.

Following this incident, Ultramarines Chapter Master Calgar, on behalf of the Ultramarines, awarded the Weeping Ones the Iron Halo in recognition of their bravery, but the Weeping Ones publicly refused the medal, believing that the victory was meaningless since they had failed to save civilians.

This was due to differences in Legion culture, but there is no doubt that this incident was one of the triggers for the subsequent tragedies of the Lamenters.

Refusing the honor bestowed upon him by Ultramarines Calgar in public is a sign of low emotional intelligence, which has polarized the reputation of the Lamenter within the Imperial Army.

Mortals admire their mercy, but some warbands, already distrustful of the Weeping Ones because of the curse on their army, developed a strong prejudice against them after this incident, instigated by some.

It was under these circumstances of being unwelcome that they later supported Huron, remembering the kindness he had shown them, with the help of the ruthless Huron. As a result, they unwittingly participated in a rebellion and were exiled to the Atonement Expedition.

However, with my presence, this shouldn't have happened. Once the thirteenth prince takes over, he'll probably start to reorganize the Ultramarines... But even so, the Collins Expedition...

Those who are grieving will likely still suffer heavy losses.

What are your thoughts on this?

Lancelot hesitated for a moment, but ultimately chose to respect the wishes of those who were weeping.

As the leader of the Lamenters, Malakin was extremely strategic, but incredibly naive when it came to human relationships.

"We previously received help from the Ultramarines, and now that their homeworld is threatened, the think tank and I have agreed that we will naturally provide full support for this Collins expedition!"
