Chapter 56 Why Fight?
"Heading to the edge of the galaxy? We're already close to the border of the Human Empire... Are you perhaps heading to even darker places, places where even the light of the Star Torch can't reach?"
Despite his millennia of experience, Dante maintained an indescribable calm except when dealing with matters related to Saint Geres, to which Lancelot nodded in agreement: "That's right."
"Then perhaps you'll need to negotiate with the merchant ronin family. As the last pioneers of the empire, they know best the places where the starlight doesn't reach... The Holy Blood Angels will provide assistance!"
Dante began by saying this.
Lancelot answered silently in his heart.
It's not as simple as just providing a base; the Holy Blood Angels are the true core of this expedition.
He had boasted to the Weepers that he would bring Saint Gilles back, and in the Reverse World, Saint Gilles was still alive.
If we take the Holy Blood Angel cubs from this world with us to search, we might be able to find them.
Of course, it might be difficult to say these things directly to Dante, and as a dark angel, it's normal to have some of the Riddler's genes.
"Because it's part of the plan."
Lancelot's casual reply shifted the focus of the conversation: "However, for now, that's still a long way off. Once the Primarch of the Ultramarines awakens, I will also ask him for a thousand Geneseeds."
"Are you planning to form a legion?"
Upon hearing this, Dante abruptly turned to look at Lancelot before him. If this being was an ancient being who existed since the Great Crusade, then he must have witnessed what the Legion era was like.
Today, the legion of ten thousand men was broken down into combat units of a thousand men by Lord Guilliman through the Codex Astartes. So, at that time, it solved the predicament faced by the Empire for a period of time. But now, ten thousand years later, some things have appeared that were not described in the Codex.
Commander Dante has come to understand the limitations of the Astartes Codex.
A qualified commander should be completely unconstrained by formalities. Although the Holy Scripture was written by the Primarch and can almost perfectly deal with most of the troubles in the galaxy, it is, after all, something from ten thousand years ago and has become somewhat unsuitable for the current situation.
While following the sacred texts would easily grant one a formidable Astartes Chapter, at least one chapter clearly cannot influence the overall situation of the galaxy... nor can it reach the darker parts of the galaxy.
"Forming a legion? That's quite an ambitious idea."
"But Commander Dante, you can rest assured. In my plan, it will only take three chapters to make it there: Blood Angels, Ultramarines... plus Dark Angels, which should be enough to support me on this journey."
Lancelot said in a very serious tone.
This seems to involve something deeper... But Dante didn't think too much about it when he heard this. He simply nodded and replied, "I understand. I will make preparations in secret. Please wait a moment, Elder. I will contact the Imperial Guard through my connections as soon as possible."
At this point, Dante paused suddenly: "However, the current Custodian Army is constantly guarding the Golden Throne, and they distrust most of the Space Marines. We Blood Angels are slightly better off because of the sacrifice of the Father of Genesis, but not by much. Elder, do you have anything that could persuade the Custodian Army to let us pass?"
Does that mean I have any keepsakes related to Old Man Huang?
Lancelot raised an eyebrow. Before his trip to the Reverse World, he didn't have anything related to the Emperor, but now that he'd returned from the Reverse World, things were different.
He had obtained the Muraho Sword and the Muraho Shield... The Muraho Shield was even a relic from one of the Imperial Grace texts, "Grandpa Emperor Subdues the Void Dragon with a Stone," and it possessed the ability to be immune to damage from enemies on the side.
This thing is perfect as a token of love.
"Of course I have one. I have a shield that the Emperor once used in 1K. He used the alias Saint George to slay dragons on Terra. This is enough as a token."
As Lancelot spoke, Dante's face twitched.
Did the Emperor once slay a dragon in the guise of St. George on Terra?
These ancient events... do the elders before me remember and know them?
This Lancelot… with such a young face, he shouldn’t know so much. Could he be an immortal saint like Celestine?!
Dante looked at Lancelot in front of him. He had originally thought that Lancelot was just an elder of Terra from the Great Crusade... but after this sentence, Dante felt that he needed to reassess Lancelot's identity.
"If it is a sacred artifact once used by the Emperor, then the Royal Guard will surely be convinced. So, Elder, what do you plan to do next? I suggest you follow our fleet back to Baal, and then I will accompany you to Terra."
When Dante spoke, Lancelot nodded in agreement.
After a month of companionship, it seems necessary to say goodbye to the mourners. I hope that under my influence, they can break free from their original fate of being alienated and hated.
Moreover, he had already warned Malakin to be wary of the ambitious Huron, hoping that his journey would proceed smoothly and that he could wake Guilliman as soon as possible to deal with the potential second civil war among humans that might break out in Badab...
Thinking this, Lancelot said, "The Lamenters are a praiseworthy chapter, worthy of the title of Sons of Saint Geres, and therefore they should not be affected by the curse of their founding."
"Commander Dante, I hope you can vindicate the weeping ones."
Lancelot lightly thumped his chest in a gesture of respect, and Dante returned the gesture by thumping his chest as well.
"I do indeed share this intention. The Weepers have now been bestowed with the Feather of Saint Geres by Elder Lancelot, and with your help, they have been freed from their cursed fate. I will tell the world that the Weepers have found the sacred relic of Saint Geres, and that they are beings blessed by Saint Geres!"
"That's how it should be."
Lancelot nodded.
"Then do you need to say goodbye to the mourners?"
"Saying goodbye is not in my nature. I will definitely meet them again in the future."
Lancelot:
"Moreover, the Weepers are not tender sprouts that need constant guidance or protection. They are warriors who will rush to the battlefields where they are needed next. If possible, I hope they can look forward to our next meeting, and I hope that this will give the Weepers more faith to persevere in times of crisis."
"Elder, you seem to pay special attention to those who are grieving."
"That's natural."
Lancelot looked at Dante in front of him:
"Astartes should know what they are truly fighting for. For the Emperor? That's just empty talk, because the Emperor fights for mortals, while in this day and age, the people of the human empire are living in misery."
"Although this is a result of various reasons leading to an irreversible situation, and I can only accept this fact, I still want to remind all Astartes of a word once spoken by a loyal Primarch..."
Lancelot's eyes closed slightly:
"Countless people make up the empire, not the other way around."
"Even the Primarch, even the offspring of emperors, has vulnerable periods. He once started from scratch, and he also worked hard in the pits of quarries and crawled and rolled in the deepest mines."
"Therefore, I want to warn the Astartes, especially the Angels of the Holy Blood: each of you has moments of weakness; all Astartes were weak mortals before they became Astartes."
"Many Astartes today look down on mortals with contempt, blind to the beauty of their struggles and to what they may become."
"But what would they look like if someone were to scrape the grime off their faces?"
"They are insignificant and lowly, but in this world, the truly strong only strike at the stronger, while only the weak are content to bully the weak."
"As Astartes, as warriors who inherited the genes of the Son of God, you are powerful. As the strong, what you should do is to hold them high above your heads, so that no being can ignore them. To lower them even a little bit is to say that you have failed in your duty."
Lancelot spoke these words, and Dante listened quietly.
After Lancelot finished speaking, the VIP room was quiet for a moment. Once Dante was sure Lancelot had finished, he asked softly:
"Is it possible for me to know which entity uttered these words?"
"It's better not to know this."
