Warhammer: My buddy has too many secrets!

Chapter 72 Conversation Before the Golden Throne

Lancelot began his journey through the long, magnificent corridor with the Imperial Guard.

Along the way, Lancelot encountered almost all the Imperial Guards protecting the Emperor. They seemed to be welcoming him, on guard, or perhaps watching this being invited to the Golden Throne by the Emperor for the first time in ten thousand years.

Lancelot still wore the Undying Lake of Light at his waist and carried the Imperial Cross Shield in his hand. The commander of the Imperial Guard seemed to recognize the shield, so without anyone stopping him, Lancelot entered the deepest part of the Golden Throne alone.

At that very moment, the heavy doors slowly opened, and a burst of intense golden light rushed out.

The inviolable domain reacted swiftly. Lancelot walked within it, and the golden light dispersed as it approached him. Lancelot looked up and saw the colossal golden creation in the grand hall.

The Golden Throne.

Even the most cruel and torturous Eldar in the galaxy, the Dark Eldar, would have to admit that it was a truly formidable instrument of torture.

The one subjected to this torture device was none other than the emperor of humankind.

Lancelot went up to him.

Ordinary people obviously cannot do this, because the closer one gets to the Emperor's true form, the more the terrifying psionic storm will destroy anyone's soul.

But for Lancelot, the inviolable domain allowed him to get close to the Emperor, and even stand directly beside the throne and look at the being in front of him.

A withered corpse.

His body was covered in cables, some of which extended backward and became even larger than the skeleton itself. All they had to do was a simple thing: extract the last bit of power from the body.

Within that magnificent golden throne, which was as imposing as a mountain, the skull appeared so small and fragile, yet its power was undeniable.

Lancelot looked around and saw that the warp clouds were constantly emitting golden light, changing all the time, and bursting forth with new flames and sparks.

From the perspective of a normal psychic, the emperor in front of him looked like a black sun.

Lancelot, bathed in the black sunlight, felt no warmth from the sun, only coldness. After a moment of silence, he reached out and took out the Emperor's Blood from his hand.

At that moment, Lancelot saw on the Emperor's withered face that it seemed as if countless faces, millions of thoughts, and memories spanning millennia existed simultaneously.

"Are you alright, Your Majesty?"

Lancelot broke the silence between them.

"..."

In an instant, pain, sorrow, victory, despair, hatred, anger—all the emotions that humans could perceive surged toward Lancelot, but under the influence of cognitive immunity and the inviolable domain, they became insignificant.

Lancelot gently placed his hand on the Emperor's withered shoulder.

When approaching the Golden Throne and the Emperor's corpse, the inviolable domain belonging to the transmigrator could at most protect Lancelot's body.

Lancelot's only way to communicate with the Emperor might be to share a portion of his inviolable domain, temporarily helping the Emperor withstand the power from the warp.

The power that served as the anchor of the real universe descended upon the Emperor's body at this moment, and in an instant, the star torches outside began to flash continuously.

Then, Lancelot saw the quartz tube containing the Emperor's blood in his hand begin to emit light, and a ball of light flew out from the blood.

It felt as if a power space had been freed up, and a torrent of energy, like a solar storm, erupted from the emperor on the throne, surging towards the tube of blood like blood itself.

Lancelot was slightly startled, but it wasn't that the Emperor had retrieved his own blood. Rather, it seemed as if the Emperor had voluntarily relieved himself of some of the burden he carried and injected it into this vial of blood.

"Can you talk to me now?"

Lancelot asked this question, but the skeleton on the throne remained silent. At that moment, the orb of light that had been launched earlier transformed into a handsome young man with brown skin and a golden laurel wreath. He looked calmly at the skeleton before him.

"He can't answer you. He's in too much pain. His mind has long been shattered into countless personalities. He was forced to choose to become a machine among countless beliefs. He was forced to constantly fight against the evil gods in the warp. Only when his offspring who inherit his genes arrive will this machine be awakened again."

Lancelot turned his head and saw the young man.

"Then you are...?"

Lancelot asked a question, and the other party nodded slightly.

"I am the Emperor, but I am not the Emperor of this universe, but the Emperor of another universe," the young man said, looking at Lancelot.

"Lancelot, thank you."

"What are you thanking me for?"

Lancelot looked at the young man before him and asked the same question. The young emperor shook his head and said, "Thank you for allowing me to help myself in another universe, and to help humanity in another universe. Although I already knew that choosing to sit on the Golden Throne was the best choice back then, seeing it now... still makes it a little hard for me to accept."

"Wait a minute, what does this mean? In your world, you didn't sit on this golden throne?!"

Lancelot was startled by these words, while the young emperor replied:

"It's still me, only the situation is a bit special in my universe."

"In my world, after defeating Guilliman, I chose to take a special path and used the Promised Sword to kill my material self. From then on, this sword had the power to slay warp gods. Loka, who inherited my will, used it to severely injure Slaanesh."

"But since then, I have rarely been able to help my offspring."

"Maintaining the Star Torch requires Magnus's constant help, and at the last moment I resurrected Horus with my severed essence, but he was destined to be trapped in the Web for eternity, fighting demons forever."

"My two loyal sons have borne part of the consequences of this golden throne for me, but they are not me after all, and they cannot maintain the Starlight like I have..."

The young emperor paused slightly, then said, "If you think about it this way, perhaps this ending was a better choice. I gave up the power of the Dark Lord too early, which meant I didn't have the opportunity to severely injure the four gods like he did, thus buying humanity ten thousand years of respite..."

"Are you really going to choose between two cesspools? Haki Huang, forget it, what do you think of the loyal Primarchs with opposing stances in this world?"

Lancelot asked this question.

"I bless them. All my sons have their flaws and strengths. They are deeply connected to the Warp. Evil gods covet them. Whether they are loyal or not is entirely their own choice."

"I won't shy away from calling them tools now, but you must know one thing, Lancelot: my sons have never been the key to the galaxy."

The young emperor said solemnly:

"The internet is the key. As long as my internet is safe, what if these brats all rebel? I can bring them back one by one with their broken limbs. Besides... I don't care about them."

"..."

Lancelot's face immediately showed a hint of disgust: "After saying so much, have you finally revealed your true nature?"

"Wait, shouldn't you say I'm being tsundere? I remember that word was quite popular back in the 2K era."

The young Emperor fell into deep thought. Upon hearing this, Lancelot felt a sense of peace and familiarity that he hadn't felt in a long time. In the Warhammer universe, perhaps only the Emperor, this old man, could share some jokes with him that only they knew.

Thinking this, Lancelot's lips curled into a smile:

"Are you kidding me! I'm going to throw up!"
