American comic book: Absolute Spider-Man
Chapter 39 Stronghold
The moment Peter made his money, he bought the building across from Gwen's house.
Today, this building appears to be a warehouse for Parker Industries, but its interior has actually been completely renovated.
The underground area was expanded to include a large reactor that was taken from Tony.
There is also a dedicated laboratory for treating experimental wastewater and waste materials, as well as several tunnels excavated by micro-sound engineering robots manufactured by Stark Industries.
The first and second floors are laboratories, housing several high-precision experimental instruments from Stark Industries and Pioneer Technologies.
These devices will be used for the subsequent research and development of new spider silk solutions and the design of new suits for Gwen.
The third and fourth floors were combined into an equipment maintenance and combat readiness workshop.
Gwen's Spider-Woman suit, various launchers, and other equipment were all neatly stored in a temperature-controlled, dustproof cabinet.
This includes the new suit that Tony helped design and manufacture.
One set is a standard bodysuit style.
The suit's visor features a built-in intelligent HUD system customized by Tony. Without affecting Gwen's superhuman senses, it works in conjunction with the suit's built-in weak artificial intelligence to better utilize this complex suit, or assist Gwen in processing information in extremely complex situations, or hack into other people's electronic devices—Tony's old tradition.
The suit's forearm area conceals miniature electromagnetic pulse grenades, which, when triggered at close range, can instantly disable mechs, drones, and electronic devices, making them particularly effective against mechanical enemies.
The web-ejector on the wrist has also been upgraded, changing from the traditional press-type activation to activation by recognizing muscle signals through several miniature sensors on the forearm suit.
In addition to the high-strength spider silk developed by Peter, more than seventy different types of ammunition and firing methods were added, including electric shock spider silk, adhesive binding spider web, and flame-retardant spider silk.
The suit also comes with life monitoring and automatic first aid functions. Once it detects that the wearer is injured, has lost blood, has an abnormal heart rate, or is poisoned, it will automatically release pain relief gel or antidote, and at the same time synchronize the location and injury information to Peter and Tony's terminals, letting the enemy witness the righteous gang fight.
The other set is the Iron Spider Armor.
The armor retains Gwen's signature black and white color scheme, with clean and smooth lines. It is made of high-strength alloy as the main material, which is sufficient to withstand direct hits from large-caliber bullets and blast shock waves.
It has an arc reactor on its chest that powers the entire suit of armor.
Four mechanical spider legs extend from its back, controlled by artificial intelligence. They can independently launch attacks, defend, and climb. They are strong enough to tear through reinforced concrete and can also form a buffer support when falling from a height, greatly enhancing Gwen's three-dimensional combat capabilities.
The palms of his hands and feet are equipped with signature pulse cannons and thrusters, which can be used as weapons or to improve Gwen's mobility in many terrains without tall buildings where he cannot swing on webs, thus providing Gwen with aerial mobility.
The armor is stored in a transparent cabinet on the fourth floor, similar to an elevator shaft. It can be worn on the spot or summoned remotely.
The armor will be launched from the launch silo into the high sky, and then cruise to the designated coordinates.
The fifth floor has been converted into a training room, a recreation area, and a medical area.
The entire floor is open and airy, naturally divided into three areas according to function.
The inner half is the training room, with a floor covered with high-strength cushioning composite material, walls embedded with adjustable resistance climbing anchors and holographic targets, and movable hanging rings and ropes suspended from the ceiling. It can be used to practice fighting skills and reaction speed, as well as simulate high-rise swinging and high-altitude operations.
Whether it's Gwen, Peter, Harry, or Ned, they can all have regular training here.
The area near the one-way floor-to-ceiling window on the outside is a relaxation area. The entire glass wall offers a panoramic view of the street scene near Gwen's house, providing ample light and privacy.
In the corner sits a soft, large fabric sofa, facing a wall-mounted screen, next to which is a brand-new console, filled with downloaded games.
Not far away are four professional gaming chairs, lined up facing a high-spec water-cooled computer, complete with dual-screen display, mechanical keyboard, and noise-canceling headphones.
Gwen also designed a small, private screening room with soft-padded sound-absorbing walls, genuine leather recliners, and a ceiling-mounted projector, which looks like a private cinema when the lights are turned off.
The innermost part is separated into a medical area.
It is equipped with simple medical supplies such as a treatment bed, an automated defibrillator, rapid hemostatic gel, and a bone fixation frame.
The medical area is mainly used to treat minor injuries. If any of them are seriously injured, they should go to a doctor.
The renovation cost and equipment value of the entire building, if converted to US dollars, would be at least 500 million, equivalent to more than half of Parker Industries.
The bulk of the items are the large underground arc reactor and Gwen's Iron Spider armor.
These two items alone are worth over 3 million.
In other words, Tony is rich. After Stark Industries transformed from an arms dealer into an energy giant, it built Arc Reactors around the world to provide stable, 24/7 energy to dozens of international cities, including New York, Tokyo, and London. Its annual revenue from the energy sector alone exceeded $60 billion.
Of course, Peter didn't exactly take advantage of Tony.
The technology and equipment Tony provided were ultimately used to protect the city.
At that moment, Harry and Ned were pressed against the glass of the Iron Spider armor storage compartment, swallowing hard.
"Alright, stop looking. Once Parker Industries grows bigger and stronger, I'll make ten sets for each of you," Peter said, grabbing the two men by the collar.
Harry turned around, grabbed Peter's shoulders, and shook him: "Peter, get to work and make some money!"
Ned chimed in, "Mr. Parker, hurry up and become a trillionaire from a billionaire. Don't forget to help us out when you do!"
"Promote you? Hmph, you'll be lucky if we don't squeeze every last bit of value out of you by then," Peter sneered.
"Peter, you're going to end up hanging a streetlamp like that," Harry said.
Peter retorted, "Hanging streetlights? Harry, you're the son of a big capitalist. If anyone's going to hang streetlights, you'll be the one hanging first."
"Hey Peter, take this!" Harry said, and was about to kick Peter to the ground.
Gwen lay on the sofa next to them, eating snacks and watching the three of them play around.
Just then, several urgent alarms sounded.
The group looked at a monitor in the room.
The display screen automatically lights up and begins broadcasting live news:
"Breaking news! A vicious attack has occurred in eastern Queens. A strange figure, resembling a lizard, has attacked a military convoy. Several armored vehicles have been severely damaged, and gunfire continues. Police and emergency response teams have arrived at the scene. Specific casualty figures are not yet available..."
The scene quickly cuts to an aerial shot—a highway billowing with thick smoke, with twisted and deformed military vehicles scattered all over the ground.
The massive green-scaled figure rampaged through the flames, ordinary bullets hitting it only sending up tiny sparks as the resistance fighters fell one after another.
Peter knew Connors was destined to become Doctor Lizard, so he wanted to make a change.
But he didn't expect that all of this would happen without warning just as he was beginning to influence Connors's fate.
So Peter now regrets it; he should have hacked into the Connors lab's surveillance system and kept a 24/7 watch.
