American comic book: Absolute Spider-Man
Chapter 67 Recruiting
The Quinjet hovered above the rooftop. A second-class air force soldier, a reserve member of the Extremis Army, wearing power armor, jumped out of the rear hatch to stop the bleeding of these scumbags with severed limbs, and then carried them onto the Quinjet.
The fighter jets roared away from Gotham, and Peter pulled the net off Bruce and helped him put his dislocated arm back in place.
Bruce looked at the strange man in the red and blue bodysuit in front of him and asked, "Who are you?"
"Your friendly neighbor—Spider-Man."
Bruce glanced at the severed limbs scattered across the rooftop and scoffed, "This is far too 'friendly.' What are you planning to do with those people?"
Peter said with amusement, "These people will be transported to New York. Since New York has abolished the death penalty, even if these scumbags kill children, defile corpses, and carry out terrorist attacks, I think the judge can only sentence them to a few hundred years in prison at most."
Peter's battle armor transformed into a suit: "They will spend the rest of their lives in the prison I built, reflecting on the sins they have committed, and praying that one day the guards will be careless and give them the opportunity to end their lives early."
Bruce recognized Peter: "I never thought a billionaire would have the leisure to be a masked vigilante."
"You're not the only one fighting this world, Bruce. Forgive my bluntness, but your methods of fighting against systemic darkness are so...naive and inefficient."
Bruce wasn't surprised that Peter recognized him. As a giant in the global energy and technology industry, finding out his true identity was just a matter of a flick of his finger.
Bruce gave a wry smile: "I'm just an ordinary civil engineer, and this is the limit of what I can do."
Bruce was interrupted by the piercing siren. Peter looked at the police, who always arrived after the superheroes had finished dealing with the situation, and was quite speechless.
He thought this was just a Marvel thing, but he never expected DC to be like this too.
So taxpayers' money is just being used to support this bunch of good-for-nothings? They don't participate when fighting the villains, but after the fight is over, they come to steal the credit.
Peter said to Bruce, "This isn't the place to talk. Won't you invite me to your Batcave?"
Bruce dragged his wounded body to his feet and pressed a button on the remote control he carried with him: "If you can keep up, then come on."
A giant Batmobile, three stories high and converted from a heavy dump truck, drove toward the building on the rooftop amidst the tremors of the entire street. Bruce flipped off the rooftop and landed on the Batmobile.
The Batmobile disappeared at the end of the street with a deafening roar. Peter's suit transformed back into his battle suit. He pushed off with his heels and flew into the Gotham sky like a cannonball, catching up with the speeding Batmobile.
The Batcave in the Absolute Universe is not the underground cave that connects to Wayne Manor, but rather a temporary safe house that Bruce, as a civil engineer, converted into many abandoned engineering sites in cities using his position.
Bruce has dozens, even hundreds, of such hideouts, and when they are marked on a map, they happen to form the rectangular version of the Batman logo from the Absolute Universe Batman series.
Inside a Batcave somewhere in Gotham, Bruce, Peter, and Alfred sat together. This Alfred was not the butler who had served the Wayne family his whole life, but an agent from MI6, with whom Bruce had an equal working relationship.
Just as Affleck was about to stitch up Bruce's wounds, Peter interrupted him.
"Let me do it." Peter's suit transformed into Iron Spider mode. "My suit has a built-in temporary medical module, which is much more efficient than your manual stitching."
After saying that, he gestured for Bruce to lie down on the medical bed, and the Iron Spider detached from him and began to operate on its own under Friday's control.
A robotic arm with a blood-drawing needle popped out from the back of the armor, piercing Bruce's vein. The left hand reassembled into a tool to clean Bruce's wound, while the right hand reassembled into a cellular-level 3D printing device, injecting body tissue cultivated with Bruce's own blood and nanobots into Bruce's wound.
Bruce and Alfre looked at Peter's armor with envy. They had never seen or even heard of armor made of nanobots before.
Alfred looked at Peter, somewhat puzzled, and asked, "Mr. Parker, if I may be frank, what's the point of such a big shot like you playing this masked vigilante game with us two nobodys?"
Bruce, who was lying on the medical bed receiving treatment, also turned his gaze to Peter. It's no wonder they were puzzled. In the past three years, Parker Industries has emerged out of nowhere and, under the siege of major global exploitation giants, has controlled 30% of the world's energy market. It has also ventured into cutting-edge fields such as biomedicine, high-precision materials, and aerospace.
As the sole head of such a massive corporation, it is highly illogical for Peter to set his sights on a vigilante in Gotham and an agent from MI6.
Peter sat in his chair, crossed his legs, and said, "It's simple, I'm here to recruit you."
"Recruit?" Bruce and Alfred asked in unison.
“Yes, recruitment,” Peter said. “I’m not from this universe, and I won’t be staying here permanently. Parker Industries certainly has excellent management and can run the company very well while I’m away.”
Peter glanced at the two men who were processing the information and said to himself, "But our enemies are the Lazarus Group and JK Holdings—these are cancers of human society. Dealing with them requires more than just defeating them in the business world. I need people with both exceptional ability and high moral character to join this great cause."
Peter, of course, wouldn't tell them that he was simply attracted to Bruce's abilities.
If Bruce can design super-powerful armor like the Hellbat, Fenrir, and Insider, there's no reason why Bruce from the absolute universe can't.
The two were not so easily fooled by Peter's words, but they also felt that Peter really had no reason to lie to them.
Bruce recalled Peter's speed and strength when dealing with the party animals; that movement speed, invisible to the naked eye, convinced him that if the man in front of him wanted to kill him and Alfred, the two of them would have no chance to fight back.
But after spending so much time in Gotham, a place known for its extraordinary people and having seen more abnormal than normal people, Bruce couldn't help but doubt the truthfulness of Peter's words.
Peter, unperturbed, handed each of them a business card: "You're welcome to visit Parker Industries sometime and see if I'm truly trying to change this rotten country. Practice makes perfect. I won't bother you any longer."
