adventurers in the sewers

Chapter 19: Partnering with Nora!

Daina's ankle injury is actually more serious; it may have damaged her Achilles tendon. Even turning her ankle is extremely difficult, and she can't put any weight on it.

Even with the help of magical medicines from a fantasy world, it would still take at least a month or two to fully recover.

Louis was somewhat disappointed by this.

In his view, Daina was a trustworthy partner.

If she is in good health, she can definitely be asked to help in the fight for the hero's corpse.

But the girl's injuries will take a month to heal, which is really too slow.

Even if the hero's body wasn't found by others a month later, it would have long since decomposed into nothing more than a skeleton.

Thinking about all this, Louis's mood became heavy again.

Such a clear change in emotion did not escape the notice of Daina, who was standing nearby.

The blue-haired girl glanced at Merry, who was preparing the meal and not paying attention to them, and asked in a low voice:

"Louis, are you having some kind of trouble?"

"Is it a work-related issue? Or is someone trying to harm you?"

Hearing the concern in the girl's voice, Louis shook his head and smiled, saying:

"It's nothing, I just discovered an opportunity, but it's too difficult to obtain it, so I'm worried."

"If I really can't handle it, I'll give up."

Dana observed Louis's expression and, finding that he didn't seem to be lying, nodded and didn't ask any more questions.

But after a few seconds of silence, the girl took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and as if she had made up her mind, reached into her clothes and pulled out a silk pouch.

Under Louis's astonished gaze, she opened the brocade pouch and poured out a golden gem.

Dina clutched the golden gem in her hand for a long, long time, then reached out to Louis and said in a deep voice:

"Louis, this is a rank-based manual that my father obtained for me when he was traveling around trading."

"Unlike the three initial classes of the Warriors Guild, the class contained in this tome is called the Spellsword."

"This is a rare initial class with three main attributes: dexterity, perception, and intelligence, and the maximum value of the other secondary attributes can reach 15. It is very valuable."

"Even in my most difficult times, I never thought of selling it, because only by changing my class with the Magic Swordsman's Codex can I go further on the path of a professional."

After a pause, the girl stretched out her hand holding the golden gemstone again and said earnestly:

"Louis, I don't know what opportunity you encountered, but perhaps this can help you."

"You can sell it, or keep it to become a magic swordsman—it's up to you!"

Louis stared blankly at the determined-looking, solemn-sounding young woman before him, feeling the intense attraction of the golden gemstone, speechless for a moment.

What's wrong with me today?

Even though the lowest-level class-specific manuals usually cost between 9 and 10 gold coins, I encountered two high-level class-specific manuals in just one day.

One of them was so easy to get that you could just reach out and grab it.

The Demon Swordsman, as its name and three main attributes suggest, is a class that combines the characteristics of a mage and a swordsman.

With superior intelligence as its primary attribute and mastery of both magic and martial arts, its value is probably even greater than some professions with four primary attributes.

In addition, the maximum value of all secondary attributes has reached 15 points, making it far stronger than the three ordinary extraordinary classes: Warrior, Swordsman, and Shield Guardian.

Admittedly, Louis was tempted.

The Hero's Manual is great, but it's not always usable, and it's a real hot potato, with all sorts of risks lurking behind it.

The cabin fell silent for a moment.

After an unknown amount of time, Louis finally smiled and replied:

"Dina, you should put the things back first. I still want to try to seize that opportunity again."

"Give me two days. If I still fail after two days, then you can give me the Magic Swordsman's Manual."

Seeing that Louis's expression was firm and he no longer hesitated, Dina had no choice but to nod and withdraw her hand.

The night passed quickly.

The next morning, after having breakfast, Louis left home with Merry and Dinah seeing him off and went to the Adventurers' Guild.

Inside the guild's dining area, Louis saw the familiar figure of the girl in the black robe.

"Miss Nora, it's nice to see you again."

Louis sat down opposite the hooded girl and greeted her.

Nora held a glass of water and drank it, asking calmly:

"You said you were willing to be my mentor, so why do we need to discuss this in more detail?"

Louis coughed lightly and said:

"There are too many people here, it's not convenient to talk. How about we go to the sewers to discuss it?"

Nora: "..."

What kind of person would ask someone to talk business in the sewer?

"it is good."

After several seconds of silence, the necromancer apprentice Nora finally nodded.

Inside the sewers, Louis said in a deep voice:

"Miss Nora, I hope you can accept my private commission, which is... to help me kill a few people."

Upon hearing this, the girl tilted her hood up slightly and looked at the boy in front of her with her eyes hidden in the shadows.

It seems strange that Louis, who was just a low-level adventurer a few days ago, now dares to openly discuss hiring a hitman.

"I don't take this type of commission."

Nora was silent for a moment, then shook her head and said.

After saying that, he turned around and prepared to leave.

Louis: "I can pay more."

Nora didn't stop walking at all.

Louis: "I know the location of a corpse of immense value."

Nora paused for a moment, but then quickened her pace.

Louis: "The body of a hero."

Nora: "..."

The hooded girl came to a complete stop.

Louis breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this and quickly caught up with her, standing in front of Nora again.

Even through the hood, Louis could sense the girl's inner turmoil.

He quickly explained:

"The people I want to kill belong to a gang called the Black Scorpion Gang, and they are the highest-ranking members of that gang."

"The Black Scorpion Gang runs brothels, oppresses the people, and commits all sorts of atrocities, including murder and arson. Killing their leader is doing a good deed."

Hearing this, Nora's anxiety lessened considerably, and she slowly said:

"I didn't expect you to be able to find the location of the hero's corpse. It seems you really know the sewers of Blackrock City very well."

Upon hearing this, it was Louis's turn to be surprised.

Judging from Nora's tone, she didn't seem surprised that the hero's corpse was hidden there.

Before Louis could ask a question, he saw the girl extend a fair hand, in which was a wriggling, translucent mass of flesh.

In the middle of the meat was a yellowish eyeball covered in bloodshot veins.

It was the core of the monster that killed Ethan's flesh slime!

But hasn't this already been submitted to the Adventurers' Guild?

Nora: "When I saw this eyeball, I sensed its extraordinary nature, so when I submitted the commission, I replaced it with a Flesh and Blood Slime Core that I had previously stored."

"After studying it carefully these past few days, I've basically confirmed that this eyeball came from a young hero."

"I didn't come to the sewers to find the corpses of ordinary people; I wanted to find the corpses of heroes."
