adventurers in the sewers

Chapter 69 The Heroic Squad's Reputation is Damaged!

Did the misunderstanding ultimately occur?

All I can say is that it's like a hair.

Whether they were frightened by the sight of Louis carrying out the head, or were forced into a corner, Liv and her entourage listened silently to Louis's quick and concise explanation.

"The manor is safe now. If you don't believe me, you can come in with me and see for yourself."

Louis said very sincerely, in the friendliest possible tone.

The accompanying personnel looked somewhat stiff, unsure whether they should go in or not.

This sounds a bit like the Feast at Hongmen, doesn't it?

To silence them, they were lured in and killed?

Finally, Liv was the first to jump off her horse, and in front of everyone, she did something astonishing.

The beautiful bride silently picked up Eric's head, which Louis had thrown to the ground, and held it tightly in her arms, oblivious to the blood staining her white wedding dress.

She turned to look at Louis, whose expression was strange, and calmly said:

"Mr. Louis, please take me inside. If Eric has truly become paranoid and depraved, as you say, then I will accept him."

Her calm tone and the way she held her fiancé's head tightly in her arms gave Liv, who was usually gentle and graceful, a chillingly yandere quality.

Louis nodded obediently.

He suddenly realized that people in this world had an extremely high tolerance for the death of their fellow human beings.

He had assumed this situation only existed with Nora, the necromancer, or with adventurers on the front lines, but it seemed that was not the case.

The harsh living environment has made death and loss commonplace for the people here.

He led the way, guiding Liv and her hesitant entourage into Hysen Estate.

The scene inside the manor was clearly far more horrific than the sight of Louis decapitated alone.

Limbs and torsos were everywhere, and every step you took meant stepping on chunks of flesh that seemed to have sprung up from nowhere. The overwhelming stench of blood constantly challenged the composure of the crowd.

Especially after seeing that bizarre and evil-looking chimera, someone finally couldn't take it anymore, covered their mouth, rushed away, and vomited violently.

"Miss Liv, this is what Eric did. He didn't even spare his own family. The Silver Hunter team was also ambushed by him, and only Milissa is left as a survivor."

Louis explained as he showed Liv around.

"Okay, I understand."

The red-haired receptionist nodded gently and slowly walked to the chimera's corpse.

She reached out and touched one of the exposed cheeks on the deformed corpse.

It was the face of a young and innocent little girl; judging from her appearance, she was clearly Eric's younger sister.

As Eric's fiancée, this child must visit Liv often, and they might even get along like sisters in private.

It would be painful for anyone to see such an innocent child suffer this undeserved misfortune.

"Louis... thank you for stopping Eric."

Liv said softly:

"It is our Adventurers' Guild's fault that he was punished after harming so many people. Thank you for preventing the disaster from spreading further."

She paused, then said:

"Actually, no one from the Silver Hunter team has come to claim the bounty. They claimed that Eric insisted on keeping them at the manor, and they couldn't refuse his hospitality. They said they would return to Blackrock City after some time."

"I should have realized something was wrong back then, because Blackrock City's city system can detect demons that are disguised or hiding."

"Unfortunately, my emotions clouded my judgment, causing me to subconsciously overlook these details."

Towards the end, Liv's tone was filled with self-blame.

Louis shook his head and comforted her:

"This isn't your fault. Who could have imagined someone could fall so low so quickly?"

Liv composed herself and said in a deep voice:

"I'll contact the relevant personnel from the guild right away to handle the situation."

"In addition, I will increase the difficulty and commission fee for the quest regarding Haisen Manor, and change the team that completes the quest from the Silver Hunter Team to... the Sewer Team."

Miss Liv, who is usually shrewd and capable, is back.

The Heysen Manor incident is an exclusive commission for professional teams, and the bounty has been increased again. Louis is looking forward to seeing how much bounty he can ultimately collect.

"But Mr. Louis, there's actually one more thing I don't understand. How did your team take care of these enemies?"

"I asked, puzzled."

Even the Silver Hunter squad failed miserably. It's truly unbelievable that the newly formed sewer squad was able to take down Eric unscathed.

Louis had anticipated Liv's question, so he cleared his throat and delivered the explanation he had prepared long ago:

"Actually, the main force against Eric wasn't me, but Dana and Nora."

"They have recently transitioned to rare professions, and their powerful talents have given them strength comparable to that of seasoned professionals."

"My brother Merry and I were just there to help out."

Liv nodded in realization, but her gaze toward Louis became slightly strange.

Your squad is called the Sewer Squad, and the name in the captain's column during registration is clearly Louis.

Was the captain actually the weakest member of the team?

Doesn't this... give you the feeling of living off a woman?

However, the receptionist was very tactful; she just thought about it but didn't say it aloud.

At Liv's command, one of her attendants rode a fast horse and galloped toward Blackrock City.

Before the guild's professionals arrived, Nora kept dealing with the corpses, dividing the guests' bodies into one pile and the waiters' bodies into another.

Then, she wandered around the various buildings in the manor, found a roster, and returned to the pile of servants' corpses, marking up the roster.

"Nora, what are you doing?"

Seeing the necromancer's uneasy appearance, Louis asked in confusion.

Nora didn't try to hide anything; as she checked off names on the roster, she answered calmly:

"Louis, do you know that for necromancers, even corpses that died on the same day and are equally fresh are ranked differently?"

"This classification method has nothing to do with the quality of the body itself, but rather with their interpersonal relationships during their lifetime."

"Those guests are the lowest-class corpses. They have elderly parents and young children, and their social relationships are intact. If I take their corpses back to do experiments, their families will definitely come to make trouble for me. It's not worth it at all."

"On the other hand, most of these waiters and servants have been employees, or even slaves, of the Hysen Estate for generations."

"Their social relationships during their lifetime were limited to the manor, and now that the entire Hysen Manor has been wiped out by us, no one will bother me with their corpses no matter what I do with them. They are the best quality corpses."

Louis: "..."

So that roster you have is the slave list of Hysen Manor.

Isn't what you're doing a bit too evil?

I remember we were supposed to be the Hero Squad.
