Chapter 93 The Onslaught of the Gray Rotten Rat!

Chapter 93 The Onslaught of the Gray Rotten Rat!

After entering the sewers, the 500-strong army was divided into 50 ten-man squads and sent to wait at various sewage outlets on the north side of the city wall.

Louis's team and one of the other teams were positioned at a sewage outlet in the central area, ready to provide support to various locations.

Louis looked at the simply treated sewage flowing in front of him and took a deep breath.

It must be said that Nora's skills in sewing protective suits and odor-proof masks are excellent; Louis barely smelled any odor.

Looking at the soldiers around me, some frowning, others pinching their noses, I realized that wearing this protective suit was definitely worthwhile.

"The fighting must have already broken out outside."

Daina stared at the ceiling and murmured to herself.

The number of monsters in the demonic tide is probably in the hundreds of thousands, or even more. When they move together, they are enough to make the ground for miles around tremble.

They are now directly below the north city wall, and the tremors they have felt from above have not stopped since they arrived here.

They could even hear the howls of monsters and the shouts of soldiers on the city walls.

The sound wasn't coming from above, but from the sewage outlet in front of us.

Louis crouched down and looked out through the gushing sewage outlet, where he could see a faint light coming from the outside world.

It hasn't rained in Blackrock City for the past two days, so the water level isn't very high.

As long as they could tolerate the stench, they could easily climb out of the sewage outlet and into the river outside the city where the sewage was being discharged.

Meanwhile, not far from the sewage outlet in the river, Louis could see the shadowy figures of beasts flashing by.

Those are all monsters attacking the city.

"I wonder when the demons who command the demonic tide will realize that they can invade through the sewage outlet."

Nora stared longingly at the sewage-filled river, her desire to collect the corpse growing stronger.

Louis thought for a moment and said, "It shouldn't happen anytime soon. Even if monsters invade, they'll just have wandered in by accident."

"However, the demonic tide's offensive won't end anytime soon; there will always be opportunities for us to make our move."

With that, Louis asked Nora for her magic pouch, took out a small stool from it, and sat down by the sewage river to wait quietly.

Five hours passed in the blink of an eye.

The bloody battle on the city wall lasted for the same amount of time, turning the water sources outside the city red, and even the sewage flowing out of the city was tinged with blood.

Dawn was not far off at this point.

Under the sun's rays, the power of the demon realm will diminish, and the demon tide will temporarily subside, giving the city's defenders a chance to catch their breath.

By then, even Louis's squad, currently trapped in the sewers, will be able to go up and rest for a while.

As long as they don't stray too far from the sewers, the soldiers on duty can find them in time.

Just as Louis's squad and the soldiers on duty were becoming a little lax, a commotion suddenly came from the sewers.

Not from outside the sewer, but from inside, behind them.

At this moment, a sound like ten thousand horses galloping could be heard from the empty sewer channels, as if a huge number of animals were rushing towards this place.

"What happened?"

The soldiers instinctively turned their heads and aimed their spears at the inside of the sewer.

The soldier's words had barely echoed when several small, gray rats appeared at the corner of the sewer.

Their eyes were bloodshot, and they looked like madmen. They showed no fear of people and viciously pounced on the humans in front of them.

It was the native monster of the Blackrock City sewers, the Gray Rot Rat!

As soon as they rounded the corner, they appeared before the soldiers at an incredible speed.

A soldier immediately thrust his spear at the rotten rat, but the damned beast dodged the thrust with the agility of a badger dodging a pitchfork.

Then, the gray rat leaped up and with astonishing jumping power, jumped right in front of the soldier's face, baring its sharp teeth to bite his throat.

Just as the soldier was about to be killed by a single gray rotten rat, a bright sword light flashed out, easily cleaving the gray rotten rat in two.

It was Dina who drew her sword, while the other gray rats that launched the attack were either killed by Louis and Nora or subdued by the soldiers in time.

"Thank you so much for your help, professional."

The soldier rescued by Dina said gratefully, then looked ashamed, "I didn't expect the gray rot rats to be so fast; they shouldn't be."

Louis did not deny the soldier's words, which seemed to be an attempt to save face for him.

He stared intently at the corner of the sewer and said in a deep voice, "You're right, these gray rot rats are indeed unusual. They may have been drawn by the power of the demon realm and now want to run outside and join the demon tide."

As Louis spoke, even more gray carrion rats swarmed over like a beehive.

They share the same goal, and their bloodlust has been fully unleashed; they will kill all non-monster creatures they encounter along the way.

As the dominant creatures in the Blackrock City sewers, the gray carrion rats usually hide in dark corners, but now that they've all appeared together, it's like an army of rats, covering the sewer surfaces so much that they can't even contain them all.

The sight of countless small, gray-haired rats swarming forward like maggots is enough to make anyone who sees it lose their appetite.

In fact, letting the gray rats leave was the best option, but Louis and his men had no room to maneuver.

The only option is to kill them.

"Merry, Nora."

Louis gave a low shout.

The two immediately understood each other, and Nora released a cloud of cold, gray mist that swept forward. Every gray rat that came into contact with the mist became listless, as if it had fallen ill.

This is a new skill Nora recently learned, called "Breath of the Dead." Any living thing tainted by the mist will be corrupted by the power of the dead.

Merry then drew an ice rune in the air.

As soon as the ice runes were drawn, they automatically merged into the surrounding air, creating an ice domain with a radius of fifty meters centered on Merry's location.

Frost quickly condensed on the gray rot rats, making them even slower than before, as they were already in poor condition.

After the enemy was subjected to two consecutive debuffs, Louis shouldered the Mercury Shield and launched an attack.

The massive shield, propelled by Louis, unleashed a terrifying impact, crushing the swarm of gray carrion rats on the ground like a speed bump.

The flesh and blood of numerous gray carrion rats were squeezed together and intertwined, leaving twisted corpses on both sides of the road Louis walked through.

He was like an old farmer surveying the land, surveying the hundreds of gray carrion rats in the passageway back and forth.

However, the gray rats continued to attack, blocking the sewage outlet and leaving them unable to move forward or backward.

As if things weren't going to get worse, just then, Dina's heavy voice rang out: "Louis, the monsters outside the sewage outlet have started invading too! Be careful!"
