Game of Thrones: Dragons have three heads, not three-headed dragons.
Chapter 8: Obtaining the Dragon Egg and Formulating a Plan
Oris and Daren walked towards the carriage at the back, while Horace stood guard outside the carriage to ensure the safety of Oris and the others. Upon entering the carriage, they were greeted by a jumble of wrought iron and steel parts, followed by an even more disorganized collection of books, most of which were already tattered. In the center of the books was a rather conspicuous large box. Looking at that huge box, Oris felt a surge of emotion within him, and then he opened the box.
What came into view wasn't some treasure, but a Valyrian steel sword. Its blade was patterned with water ripples, faintly gleaming white in the candlelight. Compared to the blood-stained blade in Oris's hand, this sword was longer. Oris picked up the longsword and examined it closely. The hilt of this Valyrian steel sword was almost entirely made of red hardwood, and two red gems were inlaid in the dragon's eyes at the back of the hilt. Oris turned to Darren and said, "What do you think of calling this sword 'Red Dragon'?" Darren ignored Oris, merely pursing his lips.
After retrieving the Valyrian steel sword, Oris touched the inner wall of the box. Judging from the size of the box and the rarity of the Valyrian steel sword, the true priceless treasure lay in the lower compartment. Only after opening the compartment did Oris understand the reason for his bloodline's tremor. "Dragon eggs, brother, these are dragon eggs, right?" Daren exclaimed, barely able to contain his excitement. Oris was equally thrilled, but remained silent. Three dragon eggs lay quietly in the compartment: a slightly larger red egg, a slightly smaller gray egg, and a broken, green, petrified dragon egg. Oris picked up the red egg to examine it, feeling a slight warmth. He wondered what methods the Belleris family had used to hide the treasure, but the red egg, after a thousand years, remained vibrant, not petrified or lifeless. When Oris touched the gray egg in Daren's hand, he could still feel its vitality.
Oris then looked at the petrified green dragon egg. If it hadn't been damaged, it might have hatched. Now, it could only serve as the last tool for Oris to use his blood magic. After finding their father's diary in the carriage, Oris, along with Heras, transported the treasures away in batches. Oris took the red and petrified dragon eggs, while Daren took the gray one. After placing the eggs, Oris handed the blood-stained blade at his waist to Daren. "This sword is yours. Taking this sword means you must shoulder the responsibilities of the Belleris family." Daren nodded vigorously. "I will." He then silently fastened the blood-stained blade to his waist. Oris fastened the new Vulcan longsword to his waist. Now, Oris had two weapons, one black and one white, hanging at his waist. In the warehouse, there was also an unfinished suit of copper armor. With this setup, as long as he didn't do anything reckless, he could basically guarantee his survival on the battlefield.
Back in his room, Oris began using blood magic to repair the life force lost from the petrified dragon egg. Although he had decided to use the dragon egg as material for blood magic, he still needed to ensure the integrity of its life force to guarantee the success of the subsequent fusion process.
After casting the blood magic, Oris had to consider another matter. The manor's stable development over the years was due to Oris's efforts in making connections, as well as the fact that his father, Inis, still maintained good relations with the governors of Pentos. Once the news of his father's serious illness and impending death spread, the manor where Oris lived would likely be in turmoil in an instant, and the greedy governors of Pentos might immediately reach out for the manor's properties.
Oris tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep, but luckily he opened the diary left by Innis. The diary wasn't long; initially, it mostly recounted Innis's experiences in the Citadel after dyeing his hair black. After studying there for a while and gaining intelligence about the continent of Sothros, Innis led his crew to Sothros. They passed through pirate blockades, traversed the Basilisk Islands, and finally entered the northern part of Sothros via the Yilin. In the north, Innis traded with the civilized, spotted people for information. In central Sothros, they fought a cannibal tribe, and when the crew was reduced to less than a hundred men, Innis found a giant dragon skull. He also found the treasure and books of the Belleris family in a nearby volcanic cave. Innis guessed that this treasure was left by Jenina Belleris, who had visited Sothros years ago. After acquiring the treasure, some of his crew mutinied, and Innis had to deal with the unruly group. Finally, on the return journey, he contracted a disease unique to Sothros.
The subsequent diary entries were written by Namir. Namir isolated Inis and the sick crew members, and then went to the Citadel for medical treatment. According to the maesters of the Citadel, the disease was caused by a poisonous insect unique to Sothroth. Although it was not possible for it to spread on other continents, those who were infected could hardly be cured. After the voyage, almost all the other crew members were killed, leaving only Namir and the sailors who were able to bring the ship back.
After a night of deliberation, Auris decided on his next plan. With his father, Aeneas, ill, Pentos was clearly no longer safe. His primary objective was to strengthen his military power. To achieve this, he needed a stable rear base. After considering the map of East Essos, Auris decided to target the Kingdom of the Three Daughters. Firstly, while the Kingdom of the Three Daughters was wealthy, its military strength was weak. Secondly, compared to other free trading city-states located inland or sandwiched between other states, the Kingdom of the Three Daughters not only jointly controlled the rich and contested lands but could also amass considerable wealth through maritime trade. This would allow for a smooth retreat, whether inland or at sea, should circumstances change. Although Pentos was militarily weaker, Braavos to its north would hardly tolerate the rise of a powerful regime right under its nose.
To fulfill his plan to conquer the Kingdom of the Three Daughters, Oris now needs a sufficient manpower. Once he has enough, he can raise an army of three to four thousand men using the wealth and weapons he has accumulated over the years. He can then simply rely on the grain reserves on his estates and the strategy of using war to sustain war, thereby destroying the slave rule of Myr, Rhys, and Tyrosi.
After waking up early in the morning, Oris summoned Daren. "Darren, your father's condition in Pentos is no longer safe. Our estate's business is attracting attention, and we need to make a decision quickly." Daren wasn't stupid. Although he had mainly spent his years practicing martial arts, Oris's teachings had still had some effect. He immediately nodded and said, "Brother, whatever you say, I'll do." Oris looked into Daren's determined eyes without mincing words and immediately said, "We don't lack money or food right now, what we lack is armed force. Before, under the protection of the governors, even the Dothraki didn't come to plunder us. Once news of Father's illness spreads, his relationship with the governors won't be able to protect us. Therefore, we need to expand our military strength in a short time to ensure our safety. My initial suggestion is to expand by two thousand men. They can disguise themselves as farmers, farming and training outside the estate. Once they are well-trained, they can be uniformly armored and give those who want to attack the estate a big surprise."
