Warhammer: Primarch's Life from the Beginning

Chapter 33 The Navigator Dies Suddenly

The Holy Commandment, the passage to the upper levels.

Since the Great Rift opened, the warp has become extremely dangerous. More and more wandering creatures are drawn to the war, ships sway from side to side in the storm, and the overhead lights flicker.

Flames erupted wherever Leo passed. He trod through the ashes and ran swiftly along the wide passageway, clearly sensing the chaotic permeation of the entire ship.

The situation is still under control.

Thanks to the presence of the clergy and nuns of the state church, other areas of the Holy Commandment did not become a slaughterhouse for demons, and the troops stationed on the ship itself provided a good buffer.

Apart from the ship's medical and purification area they passed through, the defenses here were very weak, as the troops had all been deployed to support the weapons deck.

Purple slime dripped from the ceiling of a warehouse. A Slaanesh demon that had successfully infiltrated the floor howled and leaped up, waving its serpentine tail in search of any sign of life.

A deathly cold mist silently descended from behind, and the monsters turned to look at the exit.

Leo kicked the iron gate open, and a dawn-like light shone from his hand. The demons struggled violently as they were lifted into the air, and bursts of blazing flames erupted from their bodies.

He stepped over the monster corpses scattered everywhere, his gaze sweeping over the broken bodies, leaving only a hint of disdain.

Kara barely kept up with him, her chainsaw dripping monster sap all the way, but she didn't bother to glance at the filth. The two of them kept moving and quickly passed by.

A group of medical nuns carried the wounded past Leo and headed straight for the life support room not far away.

Leo looked up at the top of his head and sensed that a high-ranking demon had boarded the ship.

"The Holy Commandment has attracted a big guy." Leo glanced at the busy nurses and technical priests on the other side of the passage.

"Can you handle this level of combat?"

Kara had just responded when a scream came from the end of the passage. The sound was as faint as a child crying, but the last note was like a blade scraping against glass, drilling into the ears along the steel wall and blurring the scene in front of them.

She paused for a moment.

She raised her hand and gently pressed her ear. The tinnitus felt like a needle piercing her brain. Her vision went white for a moment, and a scene from a memory flooded her mind.

On the ground, there were cries, blood, and belated footsteps.

Just hurry up...

Wake up, Kara! This is mind control created by a wicked demon. How could you let such filth cloud your mind?

She gritted her teeth and suppressed the sound. When she opened her eyes, the smile on her face was gone, replaced by a murderous aura.

"Your Highness, leave this area to me." She spoke as if she were a different person. "Go to the navigation room; the lowly henchmen here are not worthy of your attention."

Leo glanced at her.

What's wrong with this woman today? Is she usually like a little angel, a fighting nun, but does she turn into a cold-blooded killer when she encounters heretics? Or is there some other reason?

"it is good."

The two parted ways at a fork in the road.

.

On the other side, Catherine stood in the center of the bridge with her hands behind her back, and the holographic projection in front of her turned red without warning.

"Shield disappeared!"

"Energy feedback anomaly!"

……

A barrage of reports came crashing down on them, and some people instinctively looked toward Catherine, as if waiting for her to say, "It's over."

Catherine did not give them that chance.

“No,” she said. “I just checked these places. Even if the ship is damaged, not all the components would suddenly fail.”

If we're going to go by this report, they're now floating corpses in the warp.

The mechanical sage immediately turned his head around.

"Captain, what do you mean?"

"This is a false alarm. The Holy Commandment itself has also been affected by demons." Catherine spoke quickly. "It's not just flesh and blood that can be corrupted by chaos. Behind the veil, there are electronic obfuscations from demons, and even machines made of steel are not immune."

As she spoke, she had already issued the order.

"Communicate with the spirit of the Holy Commandment, contact the priests of the Sisters of the Martyrs, and begin the purification ritual."

The priests of the Mechanic Church began their work, lighting incense, sprinkling holy oil, and connecting tubes to the warship's fuselage.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over most of the bridge.

.

.

Leo rushed into the navigation room through the arched hatch at the end of the passage.

There were almost no living people left inside the door.

A navigator sat slumped over the control panel, a gash in his back as if something had ripped it open from the inside. The air reeked of burning and blood, a sticky, gritty smell like someone had placed a damp cloth over his nose.

Leo's mind went blank as he saw the Navigator's corpse.

The man was still sitting in his seat, his head tilted back, the Navigator's Eye on his forehead burned into a deep pit, and a look of terror remained on his face.

Now that the ship has lost its guide, it could be smashed to pieces by the waves at any moment.

Damn it, why didn't they hire two navigators back then? Who's going to replace this dead man now?

His gaze fell directly on the navigator's seat.

He raised his hand and pressed it on the armrest of the seat. The instruments that had been dormant came to life. They smelled the new blood and immediately screamed.

Leo ignored it, tossed aside the navigator's corpse, and sat down to put on the navigation helmet.

The next moment, the storm, the ship's hull, the distorted course, and the filth clinging to the outside of the Geller Field all crashed into his consciousness.

Ordinary navigators observe subspace through a third eye.

Leo doesn't have those kinds of eyes.

But with a few deep breaths from the Primarch, a barely perceptible aura emanated from his body, and the flowing psionic energy reshaped the navigation instruments along the cables, making Leo's vision increasingly clear.

Suddenly, the surroundings of the Holy Commandment were completely imprinted in Leo's mind, and she remained steadfast even in the storm.

So this is how psionic energy can be used.

.

.

Inside the bridge, a high-ranking demon strolled around.

The thing had no fixed shape; it resembled a large shadow draped in human skin, with tendrils trailing along its edges like silk threads. It walked to the main control panel, and the surrounding screens began to display static one after another. The few surviving crew members clutched their heads and collapsed, muttering incoherently.

The bodies of the bridge guards were piled up, and the battle nuns kept firing their explosives, but it was like hitting a pool of shimmering ink.

The thing laughed, like countless whispers piled together.

It suddenly stopped being in a hurry to kill; it wanted to enjoy the collapse of order.

"Captain, it's contaminating the main engine! We can't hold on any longer!"

"Then hold out until you die." Catherine, blood trickling from her forehead, her abdomen pierced through by the sharp spikes of that shadowy mass, coldly replied, "Wait for the Primarch's support."

As if it understood, it slid forward half a step, causing the bridge lights to shatter and the shadow to creep toward Catherine's feet. She was the most in the way here.

At that very moment, change occurred.

Golden light raced along the hull, and the spirit of the Holy Commandant emitted a deep, ancient hum.

The demons that were scurrying around the warship raised their heads almost simultaneously, only to be engulfed by the surging psionic energy. They screamed, their bodies collapsed rapidly, their flesh peeled away, and in the end, only a charred cloud of smoke remained.

The outer side of the ship was illuminated by a dazzling halo.

The high-ranking demon on the bridge suddenly retreated, its shadow swirling violently. It finally realized something and turned to leave, but it was too late.

The next moment, golden light converged from all directions, surrounding the thing in the center of the bridge. It emitted a piercing shriek, and the shadows were peeled away layer by layer, revealing distorted human faces, which were quickly burned to ashes.

Catherine looked up at the light, her lips moved, and then she fell backward and crashed to the ground.

.

.

Inside the navigation room, Leo was like a bound electric prisoner, his intensely burning psionic energy surging into the navigation helmet on his head.

The edges of the metal armrests on the seat have been heated to a reddish-brown color and melted.

The ship's condition flooded his mind; the original route was long gone. Without a navigator, it was impossible for him to accurately return to the original course under these circumstances.

He needs to find an exit from the storm in Asia's space.

Consciousness spread outwards along the navigator, clearing away the fog before my eyes.

Time ticked by, and Leo grew increasingly anxious.

!

Suddenly, he sensed a corner where there was no storm and turbulent currents—this was it!

Leo shouted into the bridge through the intercom to adjust the ship's direction.

The Holy Commandment flared out a dazzling tail flame.

Following Leo's guidance, she suddenly accelerated forward, the subspace engines in the core area roaring as the bow tore through the last barrier of the storm.

The moment the Holy Commandment sailed out of the turbulent rift and returned to the material universe, the nauseating warp currents vanished, and the mad whispers ceased abruptly.

In its place lies a deep, tranquil starry sky.

A faint, cold green planet hangs in the distance.
