Warhammer: Primarch's Life from the Beginning
Chapter 45 At All Costs
Imperial Will
The Ultramarines' defenses were breached; the enemy's tactics were despicable and cunning, and they overwhelmed the loyal Astartes with their overwhelming numbers.
Then, amidst laughter and conversation, they slaughtered the remaining mortal soldiers. The other civilian crew members either couldn't withstand the onslaught of these despicable traitors or were too cowardly to fight back, becoming victims of the butcher's knife.
The artillery fire from the defensive position was intermittent, and the remaining ammunition had been exhausted. The sound of blades being drawn could be heard one after another.
Death filled the ships, and sacrifices occurred every moment.
Through the breach in the hull of the Imperial Will, a surge of enemy troops climbed up from the outside, struggling to join the hand-to-hand combat with the Ultramarines inside.
"Hold on, brothers!" someone shouted over the comms, "Our reinforcements have arrived!!"
The sounds of heavy bombs and rapid-fire laser cannons exploded, followed by the ever-approaching roar of engines.
During a lull in the fighting, the Ultramarines stood in the damaged cabin, peering into the breach.
A barrage of shots, like a torrential downpour, pierced and melted the distorted Chaos Wizard and the writhing Aberration from behind, their flesh bursting open, the remaining limbs still crawling forward.
Several massive transport ships plunged into the breach in the ship, these war machines, several meters tall, crushing monsters along their path, carving bloody trails through the horde, and smashing through the softened steel deck. The various weapons loaded on the transport ships opened fire simultaneously, unleashing their fury upon the surrounding enemies of the Emperor.
With immense inertia, the transport ships came to a stop in different directions in front of the piled-up corpses. This naturally attracted the attention of the Chaos Space Marines, who roared and surged forward—defeat was inevitable here, and no one else could be allowed to interfere.
Hordes of enemies then rushed toward these vehicles, and various spells and weapons met the transport ships' artillery fire.
"No...no!" The Ultramarines desperately tried to stop them, determined not to let the dawn of victory be extinguished. Their depleted blades still plunged deep into their enemies' bodies. "Face me! Cowards!"
The transport boat closest to the crowd opened its hatch.
What emerged from there was not the reinforcements everyone had expected, but a shockwave of raging flames.
The Chaos Space Marines at the front didn't even have time to react before their armor and bodies took the first hit, and their majestic figures were instantly reduced to charred bones scattered on the ground.
A flower of death bloomed on the battlefield, exploding inside the Imperial Will like a nuclear bomb.
The overwhelming flames incinerated everything, the chaotic creatures and the remains of the traitors were swept away, and all the demons and monsters were annihilated.
It swept across the broken walls, filling trenches, fortress ruins, and scrap metal, engulfing vast swathes of the surrounding terrain. The remaining navy gripped their weapons in the flames, while Ultramarines stood rooted to the spot, their eyes glazed over the horizon beneath their helmets. Some closed their eyes as the flames crashed down, accepting their fate, waiting to perish alongside the monsters, embracing each other as they plummeted into hell.
But nothing happened, leaving many people stunned.
The intense heat they had anticipated did not materialize; the sea of fire nearly engulfed their chests. People touched their faces, their hands passing through the waves of flame.
The hair and eyebrows weren't singed, and the clothes didn't burst into flames. The flames flowed across the skin like water, and the only feedback was a series of icy sensations.
That was a terrifying power from the warp, the Emperor's psionic rage.
A series of high-pitched, clear battle roars echoed from the sea of fire, and all sorts of figures surged forth from the source of the flames. Clad in black armor and red cloaks, they charged head-on into the army of Chaos, fueled by boundless rage. Their bodies were not as imposing as the Space Marines, and their true features were difficult to discern with the naked eye.
In this sea of souls, these chaotic creatures thought they had the upper hand, but they were sorely mistaken.
Having caught their breath, the Ultra Warriors opened their eyes wide and, through the visors of their helmets, saw the tallest warrior emerge from the dazzling golden sea of fire.
When the giant approached them, and when they could see his armor clearly.
"Bravour Emperor!!!" someone shouted.
"It's Prince Leo!!" Some people couldn't believe it was a hallucination. They trembled all over. Their Astartes organs were stretched to their limit. Perhaps subconsciously they thought they were out of danger. As he approached, their bodies collapsed from exhaustion.
Leo looked at those who were still conscious, nodded to confirm they were alive, and walked past them toward the depths of the ship. These people were then helped up by the medical nuns who arrived later, and together with their combat comrades, were carried onto the transport ships.
Various cannon shots rang out from outside the ship, and not far away, the Holy Commandment bombarded the monsters that were approaching the battlefield with several salvos.
The Emperor's power filled Leo's body; as he took a step forward, the corruption beneath his feet retreated a step.
He vowed to save humanity, to free the race from its current predicament; the Warp was a shackle on the human soul. If the issues of the Golden Throne and the Web were not resolved, these problems would continue to recur within the Empire.
Leo's body throbbed with pain with every movement; the psionic energy was far too wild and brutal. Even as the Primarch, even though this body was specifically designed to withstand His wrath, there was still a risk that his skin would be torn and scorched.
He had said that the power would continuously squeeze and fill his inner being, regardless of whether he wanted to or not. And now, he was using the spiritual energy that had been accumulating within him for a long time.
If left unattended for too long, it will burst, and if it is unleashed all at once, there is also a risk of damage.
In truth, when the Primarch obtained the artifact, the sword strike that annihilated his enemies had already sent a warning signal through his body. But this time, the Primarch's body can now accommodate and unleash even greater power. So, as the time is right, will he become the sharpest sword under the Emperor's command?
Leo sometimes truly wondered if, in the end, he failed and couldn't restore humanity's future. Would he then be the last resort, taking the Emperor's place on that eternal instrument of torture?
Was this also part of His plan?
Now, he needs time to adapt to this power, but time is currently the most precious thing on this ship.
The Ultramarines shouted, urging the surviving humans to step into the cold, fiery inferno.
With a creaking sound, a large section of the Imperial Will's hull lost its support, separated, and disintegrated, disappearing into the subspace storm.
Leo walked to the edge of a deep pit, where acid and gray-green mold covered the uneven edges of the metal, and clumps of black, stiff hair and blood clung to the ground.
The ship's power was running low, and he couldn't see any view below.
The sensation was incredibly strong; Leo was certain that the person he was looking for was right beneath his feet.
So he lifted his leg forward, and the Heavenly Punishment Holy Sword, blazing with light, fell into the darkness.
