I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!

Chapter 42: Level Assessment

Appraisal center.

There were three doors directly opposite the main hall, with bronze, silver, and gold plaques hanging above them respectively. The staff at the counter took the three people's application forms and silver coins, and pointed to the door with the silver plaque.

The appraisal center in Graystone Town can only appraise adventurers up to the Gold Adventurer level, which is level 200.

Pushing open the door to the silver medal authentication room, you'll find a short corridor with a middle-aged woman standing at the end.

Several yellowed parchment scrolls hung on the walls on both sides of the corridor, printed with the rules and regulations of the Adventurers' Guild.

Arthas walked around looking at the documents, which mostly contained clauses such as "No offensive magic is allowed in the appraisal room," "No proxy appraisals are allowed," and "No bribing appraisers is allowed."

One of the signs had been half-covered with charcoal, and you could vaguely make out the word "sleep" following "prohibited".

Seeing the three approaching, the woman raised her eyelids, her gaze sweeping from the golden shield in Renn's arms to the two badges on Arthas's waist, and finally landing on Renn's face.

"Here for authentication?"

"Yes!" Ryan puffed out his chest.

"Three people?"

"right!"

The middle-aged woman nodded, turned around and pushed open the wooden door behind her. The hinges made a sharp creak, as if something was protesting.

"Come in."

The testing room was much larger than I had imagined.

The room is circular with a dome seven or eight meters high. The floor is paved with smooth bluestone slabs. In the very center stands a crystal pillar about half a person's height. The pillar is transparent and has a pale blue light flowing inside, like a sealed spring.

The floor around the crystal pillar is engraved with magic circles, the patterns radiating outward from the base of the pillar and extending to the walls.

The four walls were covered with various weapons and shields, from iron swords to longbows, and in the corners were several scarecrows covered with arrows, looking like hedgehogs.

The appraiser walked slowly to the crystal pillar, patted the pillar, and said, "I am an appraiser from the Graystone Town Guild. The rules are simple: place your hand on it, and I will use my perception skills in conjunction with the crystal to determine the corresponding level."

Her tone of voice was like quoting prices at a vegetable market—crisp, decisive, and devoid of any emotion.

Ryan eagerly declared, "I'll go first!"

"Wait a minute." The appraiser took out a pair of reading glasses from his pocket, put them on his nose, pulled out a folding chair from behind the door, slowly sat down, picked up his enamel mug and took a sip of tea. "What's the rush? One at a time."

Raine took a deep breath and placed his hands on the crystal pillar.

A pale blue light began to flow, slowly rising from the bottom, and its speed slowed down noticeably when it reached the thirty-ninth square.

Raine had beads of sweat on his forehead and his muscles were tense.

The light finally moved up another notch.

The fortieth square!

Raine opened his eyes and gasped for breath.

"Forty? Forty? You just leveled up?!"

"You think leveling up is so easy?" The appraiser made a note on the form. "Next."

"But I feel like I've become stronger!"

"That's your opinion, not mine." The appraiser picked up his teacup, his gaze moving past the rim to Renn. "Your shield, however, is quite nice—a golden jelly shield?"

"You know him?!"

"Last month, a warrior came to have this shield appraised. He said he farmed the Savage Mine over twenty times before he finally got it. What about you? How many times did you farm it?"

"once."

The appraiser raised his eyebrows slightly, then quickly regained his composure.

"Good luck. Next one."

Renn dejectedly retreated to the side, squatted on the ground and drew circles, but he quickly cheered up, raised his shield and looked at his face in the reflection of the crystal pillar, muttering to himself, "At least the shield is cool, and so am I."

Oris rolled her eyes at Raine and walked toward the crystal pillar.

Her situation was much more stable than Renn's; the light rose steadily and finally stopped at the ninety-first square.

Arthas observed the appraisal process and discovered that the crystal pillar was measuring magic power, while other aspects were judged by the appraiser through the "Perception" skill.

He silently used "Perception" on the appraiser and discovered that the other party's skill was only "Level 1".

Level 1 perception...

Arthas felt much more at ease because the other party couldn't see his true strength, and the body he created with his shapeshifting technique was level 100.

Then all you need to do is control your magic power.

"Level 91." The appraiser made a note on the form, glanced up at Oris, and said, "You're not much different from last time. You'll have to go to a stronger dungeon."

Oris didn't say much, she just nodded.

"Next."

Arthas placed his hands on the crystal pillar.

Magic seeped from his palm, flowing upwards along the veins inside the crystal pillar. He began to control the output of magic, not too high, not too low, exactly one hundred was a suitable number, matching the strength he had shown in the past few days, and should not arouse too much suspicion.

Ten squares. Twenty squares. Thirty squares.

The appraiser held his teacup, his expression calm.

Forty squares. Fifty squares. Sixty squares.

Seventy squares. Eighty squares.

The appraiser put down his teacup and began using his sensory abilities.

Ninety grids.

The light was still rising.

Ninety-five squares. Ninety-seven squares. Ninety-nine squares.

One hundred squares.

The light stopped steadily at the position of one hundred squares.

There was a moment of silence in the testing room.

"...Level 100?!" Renn jumped up from the ground, rushed to the crystal pillar, stared at the hundred lit marks, his expression as if he had been doused with a bucket of cold water and then chug a pot of hot tea. "You, you, you're level 100?!"

"It seems so."

Arthas withdrew his hands.

"What do you mean 'seems to be'?! You're a newbie who just registered a few days ago, and your level is 60 levels higher than mine?!"

Although Renn knew Arthas was no ordinary man, he never imagined that Arthas was stronger than Oris.

For him, it was like clinging to a powerful patron.

"talent."

"Even talent has its limits!"

The appraiser stared at the gradually fading markings on the crystal pillar, his eyes behind his reading glasses narrowing. The rate at which the magic power was rising was very steady, with almost no fluctuations.

This is not the level 100 level person's level control. She has seen too many adventurers around level 100 whose magic power fluctuates wildly and whose control is unstable, with at least a few obvious fluctuations during the injection process.

But for this person, the upward curve from the first square to the hundredth square is as smooth as if it were drawn with a ruler.

The appraiser scribbled a few lines on the form, his gaze lingering on Arthas for a moment as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he just waved his hand.

"Let's leave after the assessment is complete; there are others waiting."

The three walked out of the testing room.

Raine walked at the front, carrying the golden jelly shield, muttering the words "level 100" under his breath. His tone was a mix of shock, grievance, and smug satisfaction, as if to say, "I knew I hadn't misjudged him."

Oris walked behind Renn at a leisurely pace, her expression revealing nothing of her thoughts.

The streets of Greystone Town remain bustling.

Raine took a deep breath, about to turn around and say something to Arthas, when he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

"Kate?"

Arthas followed Renn's gaze.

A square-faced man with thick eyebrows walked out of the weapons shop on the street corner. He was dressed in casual clothes, but a golden sun and sword badge was pinned to his chest. The "X" shaped scar on his left eyebrow was exactly the same as the one described by Renn.

Renn had already waved and shouted.

"Kate! Over here!"
