I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!
Chapter 43: Joining the Dawn of Light?
The square-faced man turned his head, saw Ryan, was taken aback at first, then smiled. He walked across the street with steady steps, landing almost silently.
"Raine? Long time no see." Kate's voice was low and a little hoarse. "What are you doing in Graystone?"
"I've been here the whole time! But what brings you here?" Renn patted Kate on the shoulder, then suddenly remembered something, pulled Arthas over, "Oh right, let me introduce you, this is my new teammate, Dick!"
Kate's gaze fell on Arthas, she sized him up for a moment, then extended her hand, "Kate Blaine. Captain of the Third Squad, Dawn of Light Chapter."
"Dick Reynolds." Arthas grasped Kate's hand. His knuckles were thick and calloused, clearly the result of years of wielding a sword. His grip strength was much greater than that of an ordinary person, but he kept it within the bounds of politeness.
He silently activated his "Perception".
Name: Kate Brian

Level 147.
"Oh, right." Kate rubbed her stomach and gave a helpless smile. "Have you guys eaten? I'm just about to get lunch, how about we eat together?"
Ryan's eyes lit up, and he immediately said, "I know a restaurant that makes incredibly delicious grilled steak! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside!"
Seeing this, Kate laughed heartily and said, "Okay, that's the place, let's go together!"
The four of them crossed the central square and turned into a narrow alley paved with bluestone slabs. At the end of the alley hung a wooden sign with a smiling bull painted on it. The shop name, "Corner and Corner," was crookedly carved on the bull's horns.
Pushing open the wooden door, the aroma of charcoal and meat wafts out.
The shop wasn't big; half of the eight tables were occupied. The owner was a chubby middle-aged man wearing an oil-stained apron. He grinned when he saw Ryan.
"Hey, little Ren! You're here again?"
"The usual seats! Four people!"
Ryan walked confidently to the booth by the window.
The four sat down, with Raine and Kate on one side and Arthas and Oris on the other.
The portly owner quickly brought out a pot of barley tea and four rough earthenware cups, and Ryan took the cups and poured tea for everyone.
Kate took a sip of tea, but didn't put down the cup; her fingers unconsciously rubbed the rim of the cup.
Arthas noticed that the other person's brows were slightly furrowed from the moment he sat down, as if he was worried about something.
"Kate, what's wrong?" Ryan asked, his mouth full of bread. "You've been looking so gloomy since earlier."
Kate gave a wry smile.
"You figured it out."
"Of course, I have excellent eyesight!" Ryan puffed out his chest proudly, then took another big bite of bread.
Kate fell silent, considering how to begin.
"There was a problem with the warband mission."
"What's the problem?"
"I can't deliver the supplies." Kate put down her teacup and tapped her fingers lightly on the table. "My mission is to deliver the supplies to the sixth level of Dark Hemkas."
Arthas picked up his teacup and took a sip without batting an eye. Just as he had predicted, no matter how strong the Oracle Squad's endurance was, their supplies would eventually run out when facing the relentless onslaught of seven orc tribes on the nineteenth floor.
"Then why are you still in Graystone Town?" Renn asked, puzzled. "Couldn't you just send him up there?"
"Can't get in."
Why?
Kate's expression grew even more bitter.
"The quest logs. All the quest logs for Dark Hemkas were snatched up by those cheesy streamers and scalpers. The warband bought several at high prices, but it still wasn't enough. I waited in the guild for two days and didn't manage to get a single one."
He drank the barley tea in one gulp and slammed it back onto the table.
"Without a quest log, the guild won't let us in. The raid leader personally negotiated, and it won't be open for another two weeks..."
Renn and Oris exchanged a glance, and then a smug, infuriating smile slowly spread across Renn's face.
"Kate."
"Um?"
"What did you just say you were lacking?"
"The quest log. From Dark Hemkas..."
Ryan pulled a neatly folded piece of parchment from his pocket and waved it in front of Kate.
The parchment's heading prominently displayed the Adventurers' Guild's griffin emblem, below which was a line of large, gold-embossed characters—
[Dungeon Guide Quest: Dark Hemcas]
Kate's eyes widened suddenly.
"How could you have that?!"
"Of course I bought it." Renn slammed the quest sheet on the table, beaming with pride. "It cost me fifty gold coins. I was originally planning to take Dick to see the legendary dungeon again and try out the new third floor."
Kate stared at the task list, her expression shifting from shock to ecstasy, and then from ecstasy to hesitation.
"Raine, could the mission sheet...?"
"You want to buy it?" Ryan tilted his head.
"Yes! Our warband can offer a high price! One hundred and fifty gold coins! No, two hundred!"
"Not for sale."
Kate's expression froze.
"two hundred--"
"I said I'm not selling." Ryan tucked the task sheet back into his pocket, looked at Kate's face, which was practically contorted with rage, and finally couldn't help but burst into laughter. "But we can use them together!"
"Use them together?"
"Yeah, a mission order can only accommodate a team of five people. You're alone, and there are three of us, making four in total. We can even bring one more."
Kate was stunned for a moment, then suddenly stood up and hugged Ryan tightly.
"That's great! You're a good friend!"
"Let go! Let go! I can't breathe!" Ryan struggled to break free from Kate's bear hug, straightening his wrinkled collar. "But why did you have to deliver supplies?"
Kate sat down again, the worry on her face disappearing.
"I don't know the real reason why the mission was assigned by the warband, as my rank is not high enough. It should be related to the strategy guide."
"A strategy guide?!" Renn exclaimed in surprise, "The Dawn of Light wants to conquer Dark Hemcas?"
"Keep your voice down..." Kate drew a circle on the table with her finger. "I'm not sure either, but if the higher-ups want to take over Dark Hemkas, they'll send at least five main squads, but so far there doesn't seem to be any big movement."
Five main squads...
Arthas listened quietly to the intelligence report.
"So we're basically deliverymen now?" Oris said calmly. "We can do the mission together, but you'll be responsible for the tolls and supplies on the first level, okay?"
Kate smiled wryly and said, "Okay, you've helped me a lot. You can have all the monster materials and equipment you find along the way."
"But can the four of us even make it to the sixth floor?" Renn asked doubtfully.
"I'll find more help," Kate said. "The mission is to be delivered tomorrow morning. After we've eaten, I'll go resupply and find more help. We'll meet at the dungeon entrance this evening."
The portly owner came over carrying a large plate of grilled steak. The meat on the iron plate was still sizzling with oil, its surface was golden brown, and it was sprinkled with cumin and chili powder. The aroma wafted straight into my nose.
Ryan's attention was instantly drawn to the steak, and he grabbed his fork and forked off the biggest piece.
"We only need to get you to the sixth floor?" Arthas asked tentatively. "Not to a higher floor?"
"Yes. Someone will take over then. My task is to get to the sixth floor." Kate picked up her knife and fork and began to cut the steak, then forked a piece and put it in her mouth.
"And the reward?" Oris asked directly.
"Travel expenses for the chapter." Kate placed a money bag on the table, making a heavy thud. "Each person will receive fifty gold coins as a supply fee initially, and another fifty coins will be paid after the supplies arrive, for a total of one hundred coins."
Ryan nearly dropped his fork into his plate.
"One hundred gold coins?!"
"The warband isn't short of money. What it lacks are people who can deliver supplies. Each mission costs 200 gold coins, and what's infuriating is that those annoying streamers keep raising the price!!"
"Deal!" Renn slammed his hand on the table, making the teacups jump. "We're leaving tomorrow! To deliver the supplies!"
Kate finally showed a genuinely relaxed smile, raised his teacup, and gestured to the three of them.
"It's a pleasure to cooperate with you, using tea instead of wine."
The four people clinked glasses.
The cups clinked together, making a crisp sound.
Alsace held his teacup, his gaze fixed on the view outside the window.
Deliver supplies to the sixth floor...
In other words, he will temporarily join the "Dawn of Light" as the adventurer "Dick Reynolds".
interesting.
So funny.
