I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!

Chapter 65: Departure Without Saying Goodbye

The sun is at its zenith.

Alsace returned to the Twilight Inn.

The restaurant on the first floor was empty. The owner was dozing off at the counter, with an open ledger covering his face to block out the light.

Hearing footsteps, the boss lifted a corner of the ledger in front of him and squinted to recognize the person.

"Oh, it's you, your friend..."

"They checked out?" Arthas walked to the counter.

"Yes, they checked out this morning." The owner put the ledger aside, yawned, and said, "They were carrying bags, and I casually asked them where they were going. The spiky-haired young man just said, 'I have some errands to run.'"

He pulled a folded parchment from the counter and pushed it in front of Arthas. "He told me to give this to you."

Alsace unfolded the letter.

The handwriting was crooked and shaky, each letter looked like it had been wrestled on the paper, some strokes pierced the paper, some words were misspelled and crossed out and rewritten. It was clear that the writer wrote very quickly, but with great force, as if trying to carve each word into the parchment.

Dick:

My sister and I went home first. We originally wanted to wait for you to come back so we could talk in person, but you didn't come back after two hours. My sister said you must have gone off somewhere again.

I think so too.

I originally wanted to take you with me, but my sister said we shouldn't involve you in our affairs. It was a bit harsh, but I think she's right. You're probably not from an ordinary family, even though you've never mentioned it, I can tell.

It's great to know you. You've followed us around without ever complaining. I'll definitely come back after I've taken care of things at home, and then we'll go to the Fire Park together.

Here's a piece of advice for you: Don't push yourself too hard.

—King Renn

In the lower right corner of the letter, there is a crooked crown drawn, next to which is an animal that looks like a bear and a dog at the same time.

"..." Arthas stared at the two graffiti for a moment, then folded the letter and put it in his pocket.

"When did those two leave?"

"At noon," the boss put down the rag and recalled, "that spiky-haired young man's expression was different. He's usually all smiles and laughter, but he didn't say much today."

Arthas nodded, walked out of the inn, and stood on the steps at the entrance, holding two intact life cards in his hand.

The Kingdom of Qatar is located in the north, and is covered in ice and snow all year round.

He had long seen through the family backgrounds of Ryan and Oris, but he had never inquired about them because everyone has their own secrets, and he himself was no exception. Now that they had chosen to leave, it meant that things were urgent and could not be delayed any longer.

Never mind that for now...

Arthas put the Vivre Card into his pocket and turned to walk towards the Adventurers' Guild.

The guild hall was much quieter than usual in the afternoon. There was only one young female staff member organizing documents behind the counter. When she saw Arthas enter, her eyes caught sight of the silver badge at his waist, and she gave a professional smile.

"Hello, what service do you need?"

"I want to join the Dawn of Light Chapter."

The staff member took another look at the young adventurer in front of him. He probably hadn't been an adventurer for more than a few years, yet he wanted to join one of the top three battle groups on the continent.

"Applications to join the Dawn of Light Chapter do not go through our guild. You need to submit them directly to the Dawn of Light's Holy City headquarters. However..." The staff member pulled a leaflet from a drawer and pushed it in front of Arthas. "These are their public recruitment requirements. You can take a look first."

Arthas looked at the paper. There were only three conditions, each more direct than the last.

Article 1: Second Transfer.

Article 2: Gold-level adventurers.

Article 3: Has experience in clearing excellent-level dungeons.

Alsace pushed the flyer back to the counter.

"understood."

The staff member put away the leaflet and added, "If you need to check the occupational directory, the vocational training center next door has publicly available information."

"Thanks."

Arthas turned and walked out of the guild hall.

The workshop in Greystone Town is right next to the guild. It's a two-story stone and wood building with a bronze plaque above the door engraved with a crossed sword and staff design.

Compared to the guild hall next door, this place is much quieter, because most adventurers choose their profession once and for all and don't come back to look up information repeatedly. There are only a few rows of bookshelves against the wall, with yellowed profession manuals neatly stacked on them.

Arthas walked to the document rack and began to peruse the documents.

Warrior classes: Berserker, Heavy Guardian, Weapon Master, Duelist...

Ranger classes: Crossbowman, Sharpshooter, Trap Master, Beast Tamer...

Thief Class: Dual-wielding Assassin, Assassin, Guerrilla Scout, Trickster...

Mage classes: Elemental Mage, Summoning Mage, Enchanter, Barrier Master...

Pastoral lineage: Holy Priest, Discipline Priest, Holy Apostle Priest, Song Singer...

Each handbook's cover features the job title and a brief path diagram for transitioning from one to two careers.

There are five classes for the first job advancement: Warrior, Ranger, Thief, Mage, and Priest; the second job advancement offers a wider variety of options, including single-path classes and hybrid classes.

Arthas thought of Novaran of the Dawn of Light, the magic swordsman who could use both swords and magic. More importantly, this profession allowed him to use magic legitimately, which perfectly suited Arthas's needs.

The Magic Swordsman is a hybrid class.

Arthas pulled out the mage's manual and the warrior's manual at the same time and spread them out side by side on the table.

He opened the Warrior Handbook. The requirements for becoming a first-tier warrior were simple: just pass the basic assessment for any melee weapon.

Then he opened the mage manual. The requirements for becoming a first-class mage are to master any two basic spells of different attributes and pass the magic control test.

Arthas placed the two manuals side by side and found a note squeezed into a small line in the corner of the table of contents: "For hybrid professions, please refer to the 'Advanced Guide to Hybrid Professions'."

At the very back of the third shelf, there were only a few thin booklets, their covers covered in a thin layer of dust. The requirements for changing to a composite profession were much more complicated than those for a single profession. He pulled out the guide with the dark blue cover and turned to the table of contents.

Magic Swordsman, page 7.

The layout of page seven is quite unique. On the left are the requirements for changing jobs, and on the right is a hand-drawn skill tree diagram. Two lines branch off from the "Requirements for First Job Change" at the bottom, one extending from the Warrior class and the other from the Mage class. The two lines converge at the "Magic Swordsman" section to form a solid dot.

The job change requirements are only two lines long:

To advance to the next job, you need to meet both the requirements of Warrior and Mage. After completing the first job advancement certification, you can apply for the second job advancement assessment for Magic Swordsman at any job posting in any city.

Recommended level: 100 or above.

Alsace put the guide back on the shelf and walked to the counter. The staff member was an elderly man with gray hair and thick-lensed glasses, who was organizing the forms.

"I want to schedule a job change."

The old man looked up and asked, "What's your profession?"

"Warrior and Mage, both first job advancement."

The old man adjusted his glasses and pulled two application forms from his drawer: "Simultaneous transfer to both systems requires the presence of examiners from both sides. The assessments are not simple; the warrior side tests melee basics, and the mage side tests magic control. Moreover, there are two consecutive exams with no break time. Are you sure?"

"Sure."
