Wizard: I Have a World of the Dead
026: Capture Stormwind
After a brief moment of reflection, Lin Qi began his pre-battle preparations.
He knew the Storm Knight Diego all too well. He'd played him countless times in the game; his attributes, skills, and tactics were all memorized.
This is no ordinary undead; it's a boss. The battle area is not limited to any one region.
Once the war begins, the entire Stormwind City will become its battlefield. The kiting tactics used in the mines won't work here.
We must confront them head-on.
Lynch first pulled out the liches—
In the following days of sweeping through Stormwind, Lynch successively eliminated several more liches and successfully took control of two of them.
These are a Fireball Lich who also wields the Fireball spell, and a Blizzard Lich who wields the Blizzard spell.
Blizzard: Creates a blizzard area with a diameter of 10 meters and strikes the area with a blizzard for 15 seconds, dealing ice elemental damage and inflicting a freezing and slowing effect.
While it deals less damage than Fireball, it has a wider AOE range and can also inflict freezing and slowing effects, making it a very useful AOE skill in the early game.
Pull the three liches to the back and set up a shooting position in the ruins on both sides of the city gate.
The Fireball Lich occupied the broken wall on the left, the Blizzard Lich occupied the collapsed tower base on the right, and the last Fireball Lich was in the middle, perched on a pile of stones directly opposite the city gate.
The three liches are positioned in a triangle, their firepower intersecting and supporting each other.
Then, Lin Qi said to the three elite skeletons with shields, "You three, stand in front of them."
The three elite skeleton warriors, each wielding a shield, each stepped ten paces in front of the lich, held their shields upright in front of them, and knelt on the ground.
This is for protection against remote access.
Diego possesses a skill called Wind Slash, which unleashes crescent-shaped sword energy with a range exceeding that of the Lich's fireballs. Without protection, the Lich is a sitting duck.
He pulled the remaining seven elite skeleton warriors to the front to hold off Diego, buying the Lich time to deal damage.
The original three skeleton archers have been replaced by warrior skeletons by Lin Qi, who used whatever materials were available.
The Skeleton Archers' attack power is very limited against Diego, while Diego's ranged skills can cover the Skeleton Archers' range.
If there's no lich, that's fine, but if there is a lich, then keeping skeleton archers in this battle is not very meaningful.
Everything is arranged properly.
Lynch checked the locations one last time, making sure every undead was in its proper place. Then he walked back to the depths of the city gate, leaned against the cold stone wall, raised his hand, and summoned a portal.
"Sizzle—"
Black mist churned, and a teleportation portal hovered beside him, just a step away. An escape route, always ready.
He took a deep breath and pulled down his helmet visor.
"Let's go."
He stepped out of the city gate and into the battlefield piled with corpses.
The moment Lynch stepped out the door, Diego moved.
It wasn't a slow, stiff movement, but rather like a ferocious beast that had been sealed away for a thousand years suddenly awakening.
The mutilated skeleton shuddered violently, and two golden-red flames suddenly ignited deep within the empty eye sockets.
It wasn't a dark green, nor a deep red, nor a blue-white, but a fiery golden-red, like lava.
It raised its head and roared to the sky.
It had no vocal cords, no throat, yet a roar exploded from its chest, like a war drum, like thunder, like the last unwilling and desperate cry when the city fell.
The battle begins in the next second!
Diego leaped down from the top of the Corpse Mountain, his cracked greatsword trailing behind him, its tip scraping against the white bones on the ground, sending sparks flying.
Its speed is astonishing, like a running cheetah.
"Stop it!" Lynch immediately ordered.
The two elite skeleton warriors at the front stepped forward, shields in front and swords behind.
Diego's greatsword swept across.
There are no fancy techniques, no pre-attack wind-up, just a simple sweeping motion.
But the sound of the blade cutting through the air was like tearing cloth, dull yet sharp.
"Click—"
The first elite skeleton warrior's shield and arm were severed together, and the blade sliced into its chest, tearing the plate armor like paper, and the skeleton scattered on the spot.
In a single encounter, an elite skeleton warrior was lost.
Lin Qi didn't even blink.
He knew this would happen. Diego's attack power was something elite skeletons couldn't withstand.
But he doesn't need them to carry it; he only needs them to hold it up.
"Snowstorm!"
The Blizzard Lich raised his staff from the base of the tower on the right. The icy blue stone at the staff's tip suddenly glowed, and a cloud of white mist exploded above Diego's head.
The next second, a blizzard struck.
Large snowflakes, mixed with fine hail, poured down from a circular area ten meters in diameter, enveloping the entire space around Diego.
The cold wind howled, ice crystals danced in the air, and Diego's movements visibly slowed down.
Its plate armor was covered with a layer of white frost, and its joints made stiff "clicking" sounds, slowing its sword swing speed by almost half.
Six elite skeleton warriors immediately surged in from all directions.
Skull No. 2's greatsword slashed down from the front, the Asdok chieftain's scimitar came from the right, and the other five attacked simultaneously from various angles.
Diego was surrounded, but it handled the situation with the composure of a precise machine. It parried with its greatsword, dodged to the side, and slashed backhand.
Every movement was clean and efficient, without a single unnecessary action.
But it is indeed slow.
Unable to defeat an elite skeleton with a single sword strike as before, Lynch's undead minions had ample time to parry and dodge.
at the same time--
"Fireball".
Two dark red fireballs flew out simultaneously from both sides of the city gate, trailing scorching flames, one to the left and one to the right, heading straight for Diego.
"boom--"
The fireball slammed into Diego's back, exploding in flames. A patch of charred metal appeared on Diego's plate armor, and several cracks appeared on the plates on his back.
Its body swayed, and the two golden-red flames began to flicker violently.
With a single sword strike, it cleaved the two elite skeletons in front of it, and its eye sockets inside the skulls immediately locked onto the lich at the city gate, raising its hand to unleash a sword strike.
"Pfft!"
A crescent-shaped golden-red sword aura shot out from the blade, whistling as it sliced through the air, heading straight for the Blizzard Lich.
The sword energy was over a meter long, with edges as sharp as blades. Wherever it passed, the white bones on the ground were cut in half, and fragments flew everywhere.
As the sword energy approached, the shield-wielding skeleton warrior, who was kneeling in front of the lich, suddenly stood up, holding his shield upright in front of him to meet the sword energy head-on.
"when--!"
The deafening clang of metal clashing against metal made Lynch's eardrums ache. The sword energy struck the shield, leaving a deep gash on its surface. The entire arm of the shield-wielding skeleton trembled slightly, and its bones cracked.
But it did not fall. It stood firm, its shield still erect.
Lin Qi's lips curled up slightly.
Everything is going according to plan.
"continue."
Although Diego's Wind Slash can be used at a distance, its attack power is limited and it cannot break through the shields that Lynch brought from the Wallenberg warehouse. These shields are all high-quality equipment made of fine steel.
Even so, this battle was still not easy.
While his ranged attacks are average, Diego's melee attacks are quite formidable.
Even with the reduction from the blizzard, every attack and every collision still inflicts massive damage on the elite skeletons.
After two rounds of combat, another elite skeleton was killed when its plate armor was shattered.
Then came the third...the fourth...
Later on, even Number 2, who had followed Lynch all the way through his battles, had been gloriously sacrificed, leaving only the Asdok leader and another elite skeleton on the field.
Fortunately, Diego also reached his limit.
Its plate armor was mostly shattered, and a crack in its chest stretched from its collarbone all the way to its waist, revealing charred ribs inside.
He could no longer lift his left arm, so he could only grip the greatsword with his right hand.
Its movements became slower and slower, and each swing of its sword in the blizzard felt like struggling in the mud.
at last!
"boom!"
"boom!"
Two fireballs flew in at the same time.
One bullet struck his chest, and another his head.
Flames exploded, and golden-red light burst forth on Diego's head.
Its body froze in place, the greatsword slipped from its hand and crashed onto the pile of bones with a dull thud.
It is still standing.
But the golden-red flame in its sockets was dying out. Like the setting sun sinking below the horizon, like embers burning out their last bit of warmth.
The light dimmed little by little, and gradually dissipated.
Then...
The broken, fragmented skeleton, which had stood for countless years, slowly knelt on the pile of bones. Its hands were on the ground, its head bowed, and golden-red flames flickered one last time in its eye sockets.
It's gone out.
The skeleton lay there quietly, like a monument that had finally completed its mission.
The battlefield fell silent.
The blizzard stopped, the snowflakes fell, leaving only a blanket of white frost.
The flames died down, the smoke dissipated, leaving only broken bones and cracks scattered on the ground.
Standing deep inside the city gate, Lin Qi's tense nerves finally relaxed at this moment.
At the same time, a system notification sounded in my ear.
Crisp and cold:
