A priest in North America, what the hell is the Demon Gate system?
Chapter 34 The Priest in Stealth
"What exactly do they want to do?" Li Ang's expression was cold, and a red glint flashed in his eyes.
"They planned to overload the explosives in the explosive pack to cause this accident."
Pete shuddered at Leon's expression, but still slowly began to explain.
Wang Bingbing's face looked grim: "There have been accidents on this railway in the past, resulting in many deaths... Could it be around this time?"
"Maybe." Li Ang nodded.
He wouldn't say a word about the abyssal demons, partly because telling them it would only frighten them and bring no other benefit. On the other hand...
What if the demons of the abyss are among them?
Li Ang has no intention of trusting anyone right now.
"Then what do we do? We can't just watch an accident happen..." Nia asked softly, squeezing the cross.
Li Ang held up three fingers: "We'll split into three groups. I'll be in charge of replacing the explosives."
Wang Bingbing crossed her arms and rested her chin on her hand as she asked, "What about me?" To be honest, she admired Li Ang's composure and decision-making skills in the face of danger.
"You and Nia go to the workers' area," Li Ang said, turning to her with a commanding tone.
"Use any method you can think of to remind them not to crowd into the tunnel tomorrow. You don't need to be too explicit; these people aren't stupid. They'll know to avoid danger on their own."
"Why does it feel like the priest has become a bit aggressive lately..." Nia quietly straightened her bangs, looking somewhat flustered, as Wang Bingbing nodded in agreement.
Upon hearing this, Pete raised his hand somewhat timidly and asked, "Father, what about me?"
"Keep pretending to be mute." Li Ang waved his hand at him.
"Go loiter around near the foreman and listen to what their plans are. Remember, survival comes first, so don't panic no matter what you hear."
Pete stopped and nodded vigorously, almost shouting "Yes, sir!"
"We'll move out after dark." Li Ang glanced at the sky outside the tent.
Night quickly blanketed the mountaintops, and dark clouds obscured the moon, making it impossible to see any light.
The lights on the construction site were off, with only a few campfires still crackling and burning, casting the shadows of patrolling men swaying on the tents.
Strange cries of some kind of bird came from the distant forest, one long and one short, sending chills down one's spine.
Li Ang crouched in the shadows at the edge of the camp. He took a deep breath, and his magical power began to circulate within him as he activated the Concealing Breath Technique.
His heartbeat slowed down, and his breathing became light and slow. Li Ang looked down at his hands and had the illusion that they were right in front of him but he had no sense of their existence.
"This trick is quite effective..." he exclaimed, then crouched down and crept towards the west side of the camp.
Along the way, Li Ang deliberately moved closer to the patrolmen, but found that they didn't react at all.
The explosives storage point was located on the outskirts of the camp, in a small wooden hut, some distance from the workers' tent area.
The wooden house was simply locked with a lock. Li Ang reached for the door and focused his spiritual sense to perceive the situation inside.
There were seven or eight wooden crates piled up in the room, along with several bundles of long, thin objects wrapped tightly in oil paper, which should be the explosive packs Pete mentioned.
There were some detonators on the shelf against the wall, probably for auxiliary detonation. It seems that those explosive packs were made of TNT.
The room was empty and quiet; there wasn't even a light on.
Li Ang gently pinched the clasp with his fingers; his Physique Level 3 was truly impressive. The clasp was deformed by the pinch and silently slipped off with a flick to the side.
The room was almost pitch black, but to Li Ang's divine sense, it was completely transparent.
"Am I a bit like Asura from 'Damaged Milk Powder'?" Li Ang couldn't help but laugh at himself.
He quickly reached the pile of explosives, squatted down, and gently rubbed the oil paper package with his fingers.
"The legendary oil-paper package, right? What if I open it and find parts left behind by the Germans back then?"
Li Ang inwardly scoffed at those Yi Lin short stories, knowing that the domestic market had already shifted its focus to this genre.
The explosives were crudely packaged, with oil paper wrapped in hemp rope, making them bulge. Li Ang untied one of the knots and carefully lifted a corner of the oil paper.
Some whitish solids were tightly pieced together.
"This thing is TNT...it looks like cream cheese." Li Ang clicked his tongue in amazement.
He carefully inspected several packages and quickly discovered the problem: three of them were noticeably heavier than the others, and the oil paper was wrapped very tightly, as if afraid that someone would open them to look inside.
"It's you guys." Li Ang chuckled and gently unwrapped the oil paper.
After removing the excess explosives, Li Ang simply stuffed some stones and sand into the container, as long as the weight was roughly the same.
As for the explosives that were exchanged? Li Ang naturally accepted them with a smile.
"Hehehe, who knows, it might come in handy later, we can't waste it!"
The process of changing the packages was more complicated than I had imagined. The explosive packages were stacked quite securely. It was easy to pull one out, but putting it back in the same place was a different story.
Just as he was putting the third explosive charge back, footsteps suddenly came from outside.
Li Ang instantly became alert, while simultaneously feeling puzzled.
"Who could it be? Coming to this area at night?"
The footsteps didn't stop, heading straight for the wooden house.
"Damn it," Li Ang cursed inwardly, quickly glancing around.
There weren't many places to hide in the room, so he looked at the pile of boxes in the corner and disappeared into the shadows of the boxes in a flash, while simultaneously activating a concealment technique.
Just as Li Ang had hidden himself, the wooden door was pushed open.
The heavy boots stomped into the room, making the floorboards creak, indicating that the newcomer was quite heavy.
However, no lights came on, and it was clear that the guy hadn't turned on any lights.
"The darkest place is under the lamp? Are they here to steal explosives?"
Li Ang held his breath, pondering to himself, for in this era, explosives were indeed not cheap.
The person who came in didn't say anything. He walked around the room for a while, then stopped at the explosives. He picked up an explosive and weighed it in his hand.
"Heh... they're all here."
It was Brian's voice.
Li Ang's heart sank. What was this fat man doing at the explosives storage site in the middle of the night?
Without further hesitation, Li Ang flicked his left hand, and the Stars and Stripes Soul Banner fell into his grasp.
"Shirley, come out, don't speak." Li Ang communicated with Shirley directly using his divine sense.
The flag trembled slightly, and Shirley peeked out.
"What are you doing in the middle of the night... huh?"
She sensed something was wrong and turned to look at Brian.
Brian had his back to them and was bending over, drawing something on the floor by the door. In the darkness, his movements seemed furtive.
"Shirley, didn't you say that a blackened soul is a demon? Check his composition," Li Ang secretly transmitted.
Shirley paused for a moment, then stared intently at the source.
The next second, her eyes widened suddenly.
"That...that is..." Her voice trembled slightly.
"What is it?" Li Ang pressed.
Shirley turned her head, her lips trembling, a look of terror on her face:
"Father...run away...I've never seen such a dark soul!!"
She instinctively tried to grab Li Ang's sleeve, but the ghost's hand passed right through it.
At the doorway, Brian slowly straightened up and turned around.
At this moment, the dark clouds in the sky drifted away, revealing the moonlight that had been obscured for so long.
The cold light shone through the window onto his face.
A smile was on that face.
His mouth stretched almost to his ears, revealing his yellowed teeth.
His eyes, however, lost their whites and pupils, becoming two bottomless black holes.
"Come out... Father..."
