Magic: My equipment slots have no restrictions
Chapter 19 Heading to the Nest
Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
On the morning of the third day, when Victor and his two companions arrived at the training ground, the other eight squads had already assembled.
A guard in full plate armor stood in front of the crowd, holding his helmet and nodding in their direction.
Viktor nodded in response.
They had only taken a few steps forward, stopping in the open space behind the eight squads, when a guard's shout came from ahead:
"May Tempas be with you!"
There was no passionate mobilization; the weight of this single blessing was enough to signal the start of the crackdown!
As soon as he finished speaking, all eight adventurer teams in the arena took action.
The three teams, truly composed of adventurers, picked up their equipment and strode out of the town.
The other teams, on the other hand, were of varying quality, and even their pace was somewhat chaotic.
This scene was truly astonishing.
"Let's set off too."
Viktor strode forward, feeling that this was the only normal thing to do.
These townspeople are considered adventurers only because they accepted commissions; they are not adventurers who actually fight monsters in the wild and are registered with the guild.
Only those three squads were truly qualified.
As he walked, he looked at the faces that were filled with excitement, fear, or tension, and a hint of helplessness flashed in his eyes.
These people whose names I know, I don't know if I'll ever see them again after I return.
Are you scared?
Just then, Ryan suddenly leaned close to him and whispered something.
Victor was naturally not afraid.
But he caught a glimpse of his friend's hand, which was trembling slightly even though it was clenched into a fist.
Just as I was about to point it out, someone behind me spoke up even faster:
"Raine, aren't you the one who's actually scared?"
Oliver followed behind, his voice low and questioning, his gaze fixed on Ryan's hands.
You've misjudged.
Renn turned to look at the other person.
Seeing that dejected face that revealed no thought, his lips twitched, and he gave up the idea of refuting it.
Oliver saw through Ryan's thoughts, and a hint of confusion appeared on his dejected face.
Admitting you're scared isn't a big deal, is it? I felt the same way the first time I left my small town.
As he thought this, he glanced at Viktor, who was walking at the front, and suddenly realized.
The boy walked steadily with relaxed shoulders, and... from the moment he entered the arena until now, he hadn't chatted with his teammates to relieve the pressure like the others around him.
Is he not afraid at all?
"..."
As he pondered, Oliver subconsciously reached out and grasped the pendant on his chest, lost in thought.
Viktor was unaware of what one of his teammates was thinking, and even if he did, he wouldn't explain.
By this time, they had already followed the three teams ahead out of the town and into the forest.
Soon, the three teams went in different directions.
Without hesitation, Viktor chose a route to the goblin's lair, based on the map he had memorized.
He doesn't plan to follow others or compete with them for goblins; safety comes first.
"Aren't we going to go with them?"
Oliver asked, puzzled.
He remembered that it took three days to walk from Northwind Ridge to the goblin's lair marked with the quest marker.
This, of course, takes into account the time spent hiding in the darkness, since most people do not possess precious magical artifacts to resist the power of the Silver Moon.
If we follow the direction Viktor chose, it will probably take even longer.
"Is there a problem?"
Ryan was preoccupied with thrilling adventures and had no idea what the other person was worried about.
Oliver ignored him and stared at Victor's back.
"The reason is simple."
Victor didn't keep him waiting long. He glanced behind him to make sure the townspeople were following at a distance and could see their tails.
"You should have noticed that the settlement time for this large-scale commissioned task is seven days from now."
"Generally, commissions to exterminate monsters will only be given one or two days."
After saying that, no further explanation was needed.
Oliver had already noticed the anomaly.
Goblins are low-level monsters, and a nest of them usually only has a few dozen, so it doesn't take adventurers long to clear them out.
However, this time the commission period did indeed take more than seven days...
"You suspect that what we're facing isn't just a monster's lair, but an entire... goblin tribe?"
"That's right."
Victor's lips curled slightly: "As long as we take relatively safe routes, we can avoid some of the clusters of green-skinned people."
After saying that, he offered no further explanation.
Oliver didn't ask any more questions, but his slightly widened eyes revealed the turmoil in his heart.
"Huh? I'm attacking a goblin tribe?"
Ryan didn't listen to any of their explanations; he only remembered the most terrifying thing.
The thought of drawing his sword at a goblin and having a swarm of green-skinned monsters emerge from behind it sent chills down his spine.
"right."
Victor and Oliver said in unison.
Ryan suddenly felt a surge of pressure, thinking that he probably couldn't protect his two teammates, and began to devise a meticulous plan in his mind.
"..."
Victor ignored his friend.
He was currently using his magical affinity to sense the anomalies in the vicinity, his gaze more serious than ever before.
Earlier, when he asked the guard "why an ear is worth 13 silver coins," the guard did not give a direct answer.
But as he left the tavern, the other person said something quite meaningful:
"Perhaps there is something that frightens even the Baron."
This is very unusual.
Even though the baron's status wasn't high, he still had some quite capable adventurers under his command, so why would he be afraid of goblins?
Victor then suspected that there were already monster tribes in the forests surrounding Golden Oak Valley.
"really."
He sensed some residual magic on a tree six meters away.
So, under the questioning gazes of his two companions, he suddenly changed direction and quickly took a few steps.
Before we even reached the tree, a not-so-strong but rather strange stench wafted over.
Viktor also noticed this keenly.
At the base of the tree, a large number of flies gathered on a pile of black substance.
"That's monster excrement; judging by its shape, it's some kind of demonic hound."
Oliver spoke up at the opportune moment, pointing to several black lines on the bark that looked like ink stains, his tone somewhat uncertain: "These too, but they seem to be man-made."
"..."
With his suspicions confirmed, Viktor nodded slightly and turned to walk in the predetermined direction.
He was now certain that there was a goblin tribe in the forest, and that the green-skinned people had already infiltrated Northwind Ridge.
Only those chaotic and filthy things would smear feces as markings.
"..."
Oliver followed behind, remaining silent.
He wasn't stupid. Under Victor's guidance, he had come to understand that the ultimate goal of this commission was probably not as simple as just a hideout.
He didn't even dare to think about where those goblins, who had infiltrated so much of the forest, might be hiding, or perhaps they were nearby...
"Click!"
Just then, a crisp metallic clanging sound came from the quiet woods, sounding like an animal trap!
Immediately afterwards, blood-curdling screams echoed throughout the area!
