Chapter 72 Goblin Hero
Once the sounds of impact and screams in the tunnel gradually subsided, Lucy first removed the sacred wall behind the goblin horde.
Without the obstruction behind it, the surging poisonous fog immediately spread out along the other side of the tunnel.
The sacred wall in front of them was still there, its milky white light clinging to the low stone ceiling, keeping the purple poisonous mist in the passageway to the other side.
Instead of moving, everyone stood still and waited.
Only after the poisonous fog in the passageway had mostly dissipated did Lucy remove the sacred barrier that had been blocking their way.
Zig took out several pre-prepared cloths from his bag, containing some crushed charcoal powder, and distributed them to the others to cover their mouths and noses.
After completing these tasks, the team crossed the passageway and returned to the cemetery corridor they had previously visited.
After exiting the passage, there are still goblins ahead.
Twenty or thirty green-skinned monsters were scattered at the end of the corridor. They had clearly seen the consequences of the poisoning in the passageway, and their faces showed undisguised panic, but they still charged forward with strange cries, as if something more terrifying than death was forcing them from behind.
Zieg and Ravenna immediately stepped to the side to create a firing angle, and the bowstrings snapped open.
Arrows pierced the monster horde one after another, targeting only the ones at the front and running the fastest.
With a series of dull thuds as arrows pierced flesh, most of the goblins fell to the ground, their forward momentum abruptly halted.
Only a handful of them actually pounced on Valeria.
Valeria went to meet her.
The first one had barely darted in front of her when she slit its throat with a single sword stroke.
As soon as the second wooden stick was swung up, she twisted her wrist and the sword blade slashed into its chest.
Two more goblins tried to pounce from the left and right, but she stepped forward instead, her sword flashing past them one after another, and both goblins fell down at the same time.
The last little devil finally couldn't hold on any longer and turned to run away.
Valeria's expression changed, and almost instinctively she raised her kite shield.
The next moment, a spear tore through the darkness, shooting in with a terrifying whooshing sound. It first pierced the fleeing goblin, and then, with its momentum undiminished, it slammed into Valeria's raised shield along with the corpse.
With a loud bang, Valeria was knocked backward by the force of the impact.
From the shadows at the end of the corridor, the tall figure finally emerged.
It can no longer be considered an ordinary goblin.
His shoulders and back were frighteningly broad, his limbs were thick, and his muscles were like blocks of hard, stacked stones. His chest was haphazardly wrapped in rough animal hide armor, and his exposed skin was covered with crisscrossing scars.
Some of the wounds were whitish, while others hadn't healed yet. They were layered together, making the thing look less like a living creature and more like a monster crawling out of a pile of corpses.
Without hesitation, Ravenna raised her hand and fired an arrow.
The arrow pierced the air and headed straight for the monster's face.
But the goblin hero just grinned, grabbed a goblin corpse from beside him, and held it in front of himself.
With a soft thud, the arrow pierced the corpse's chest.
"Watch out!"
Just as the arrow struck, the goblin hero grinned and swung his arm, hurling the arrow-studded corpse at Ravenna.
The mass of flesh, imbued with immense force, slammed down with a muffled whistling sound.
Valeria stepped forward and stood in front of Ravenna, her Kite Shield meeting the attack.
Bang!
Flesh and bone shattered the moment they hit the shield, sending bits of flesh and blood flying everywhere.
But the force didn't lessen at all. Valeria's feet dragged on the ground with a screeching sound, and she eventually lost her balance. Ravenna was also pulled down by her and fell to the ground, rolling a short distance along the stone ground.
Before they could even get up, heavy footsteps suddenly approached.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Each step felt like stepping into the depths of stone, causing the entire corridor to tremble.
The thing charged with astonishing speed; it was a dozen paces away one moment, and in the blink of an eye, it was right in front of her. With a swing of its arms, it lifted a broken stone pillar and slammed it down on Valeria's head.
Ravenna had just propped herself up on one side when Valeria shoved her away.
"Get out of the way!"
She gripped the kite shield tightly with both hands and raised it.
The stone pillar crashed down heavily.
With a muffled boom, a shockwave exploded, sending rubble and dust flying in all directions.
Valeria's shield barely managed to withstand the blow, but the savage and unreasonable force still pressed down along the shield, making her arms numb, her shoulders and back ache, and her knees buckled, causing her to collapse to her knees on the spot.
The goblin hero, however, did not pause for a moment.
It looked down at the human before it, who hadn't yet been crushed, and slowly a grin spread across its face, as if it had seen something interesting. The stone pillar was lifted up again, and the shadow fell once more.
It was clear that it hadn't used its full strength in that last attack, but now it could see that the woman blocking its way was nearing her limit.
One more hit and she'll be crushed into the ground, shield and all.
At that very moment, a cold glint suddenly flashed from the side.
The goblin hero reacted extremely quickly, almost instinctively twisting his body and swinging the pillar to sweep in the direction from which the danger was coming.
But Zig arrived faster than it had anticipated.
Instead of confronting the sweeping stone pillar head-on, he stepped onto the pillar and used the recoil to lift himself up again, his entire body like a fleeting shadow, heading straight for the monster's face.
The goblin hero raised his left hand, intending to swat the annoying human in his way.
The moment it raised its hand, the stone ground beneath its feet suddenly shone with a blinding magical light.
Several thick thorny vines broke through the soil and wrapped around its calves and left arm, grabbing its raised arm tightly in the blink of an eye.
Hill stood not far away, her hands gripping the wooden staff tightly, her forehead covered in sweat, but the vines still managed to entangle the target firmly under her control.
That brief moment of hesitation was enough.
Sieg's sword didn't aim for the neck, but instead slashed directly into the goblin hero's left wrist.
The sword pierced through the thick, rough flesh, and blood gushed out. But when it tried to cut further in, it was blocked by incredibly hard bone.
Zig did not linger in the fight. He loosened his grip, discarded the sword hilt, and used the monster's rough palm as leverage to leap backward.
While he was still in mid-air, the yew wood longbow had already reformed in his hand.
The next moment, the armor-piercing arrow was released from the bow.
The arrow came too fast. The goblin hero was caught by the vines on its left arm, and its movements were a beat too slow. It didn't have time to dodge completely. The arrow pierced straight through and deeply embedded itself in its right eye.
A furious roar, almost distorting his features, suddenly erupted.
The monster tilted its head back, and blood mixed with the ruptured eye fluid flowed down the arrow shaft.
It didn't fall, but staggered a step, letting out a series of low and violent roars that made people's chests feel tight.
