Huayu 2011: Starting with Hilarious Men

Chapter 13 Your name is no good

He is recognized as the most handsome, popular, and well-resourced student in the entire school.

Jiang Jinfu has been a bit irritable lately.

It wasn't because of trivial things like being stared at while walking or being secretly photographed by girls during class.

As a figure in the spotlight, Jiang Jinfu is used to and even enjoys being watched.

It's not because of his future plans.

His first acting agency contract is currently being negotiated with Tangren Media.

Both parties meticulously discussed every detail, including profit sharing, contract duration, allocation of film and television resources, and individual autonomy in their work.

Pulling his baseball cap even lower, Jiang Jinfu prepared to find a quieter place to stay for a while.

Just as he was about to leave, a tall, upright boy suddenly blocked his way.

The boy was wearing a simple white sweatshirt and black jeans. He was tall, handsome, with striking features and a cheerful smile. His eyes held a familiar warmth.

Before Jiang Jinfu could move aside, the other party spoke first: "Brother Jinfu, please make a cameo appearance."

Jiang Jinfu paused, his brows furrowing instinctively.

Despite his full attire, including a hat and mask, someone still recognized him at a glance. Was he a paparazzi?

"Who are you?" Jiang Jinfu took a half step back, maintaining his distance, his tone somewhat aloof: "You can recognize me? What am I playing in?"

Zheng Nan answered the three questions one by one.

"My name is Zheng Nan. I am a freshman in the Acting Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy, class of 2010."

Hearing that it was a junior student and not a paparazzi, Jiang Jinfu relaxed a lot.

"I am a big fan of yours, and I still have the cover and illustrations you photographed for the novel 'Secret Fruit'."

You can't hit someone who's smiling, especially when the person is a fan. Jiang Jinfu relaxed even more.

"I invested 26,000 yuan of my own money to prepare for the production of a film or television series. I happened to run into you, so I was wondering if I could invite you to make a cameo appearance..."

"Wait a minute! How much investment?" Jiang Jinfu stopped Zheng Nan, who was about to continue speaking, and asked instead.

"You heard me right, it's 26,000." Zheng Nan had answered this question more than once, and she was very familiar with it.

When Jiang Jinfu heard this number, he almost couldn't help but laugh.

He earns more than that for a single commercial appearance.

What kind of film or television work can be made with 26,000 yuan? Jiang Jinfu, who was originally irritable, suddenly wanted to laugh.

Zheng Nan continued, "Because I plan to release this work online for commercial broadcast after it is completed, I am willing to spend two thousand yuan to invite Brother Jinfu to make a cameo appearance in the main film for two minutes."

"Forget about the money, just let me see the script. If I'm interested, I'll let you do a cameo role for free."

Jiang Jinfu didn't care about two thousand yuan, and there was no need for him to charge his junior. If word got out, it wouldn't sound good.

Normally, Jiang Jinfu wouldn't waste any time and would easily make up an excuse to send them away. But today he was feeling restless and thought Zheng Nan, this junior, was quite interesting. He figured that spending some time with the junior would be a good way to relax and change his mood.

Zheng Nan first offered a compliment, then handed over the script in her hand: "You can pick any role you like, Jin Fu! Apart from my lead role, you can play whichever of the remaining roles you fancy. If you're not satisfied with any of them, I'll write one for you right away!"

Jiang Jinfu took the script, casually flipped through a few pages, and his brows furrowed more and more as he read.

There is no complete storyline, no coherent character settings, and the whole thing consists of short dialogues of one or two minutes, coupled with unexpected plot twists and jokes.

Can this really be called a film or television work? Isn't this just a collection of jokes circulating online?

This script made Jiang Jinfu even more certain that this was a novice's amateur project.

"What are you trying to express with this work? I don't understand," Jiang Jinfu said, trying to be as tactful as possible.

"It doesn't convey any special meaning, nor does it intend to educate the audience; it's purely a comedy."

Seeing Jiang Jinfu's expression, Zheng Nan knew he was still hesitant, so she immediately offered him a way out: "We're just about to find a quiet little park to shoot some outdoor scenes. If you're interested, Brother Jinfu, come with us to take a look."

"Don't take too long, I have things to do tonight." Jiang Jinfu thought for a moment, since he was bored anyway, he might as well go and take a look.

The group, including Jiang Jinfu, went to the park.

Upon arrival, Zheng Nan and the others skillfully began distributing scripts, putting on wireless lavalier microphones, and setting up the filming location.

The first clip was quite simple. Dilraba and Yuan Bingyan were taking pictures with their phones in the park. They wanted to take some photos together, so they asked Zheng Nan, who was passing by, to help them take pictures. Zheng Nan seriously told them what poses to strike, but then picked up his phone and ran away.

The second story is about Zheng Nan seeing the beautiful Dilraba in the park and approaching her, saying, "Beautiful lady, do you believe in love at first sight?"

Reba coldly replied, "I don't believe it."

Zheng Nan chimed in, "I don't believe it either. We're just too destined for each other."

The filming process went smoothly, and to ensure there were no unexpected situations, Zheng Nan even filmed two more takes.

Jiang Jinfu watched with great interest; this makeshift troupe was truly amateurish.

"How about it, Brother Jinfu? Interested in making a cameo appearance?" Zheng Nan asked as he walked over after filming the second take.

"It's quite interesting, but some of the characters in your script don't quite fit my image." Jiang Jinfu meant that he couldn't accept playing an ugly character.

"Easy, I'll write one right now," Zheng Nan said, indicating that it was no problem.

Zheng Nan looked around the park and noticed a basketball court nearby.

"Does Brother Jinfu play basketball?"

"Absolutely." Jiang Jinfu attempted an air shot from the spot.

"The plot goes like this: Brother Jinfu, you're playing basketball on the court, and I'm on defense, but not in a proper way. Instead, I'm sticking to you like glue, making it impossible for you to dribble or shoot."

We've both played basketball, and we know that physical contact is the easiest way to get angry. We exchanged a few words, and you got angry and said you wanted to "cool me down."

At this point, I cut to a scene that makes everyone think a fierce conflict is about to erupt, then the camera cuts back to you, and you're putting a few slices of cucumber on my face, saying, "Men are prone to breakouts when they have internal heat; students at the Shanghai Theatre Academy must pay attention to cooling down."

Zheng Nan quickly recounted the plot, then looked at Jiang Jinfu.

"That's quite interesting. You're quick-witted," Jiang Jinfu exclaimed, impressed that his junior could come up with a joke in such a short time.

It's a pity that the investment is too low; even with talent, it's probably difficult to stand out.

After being toughened up by reality for two years, he'll probably grow into a good screenwriter.

Recognizing Zheng Nan's talent, Jiang Jinfu asked one more question: "What's the name of your work?"

"This segment has no title."

"Not this clip, what's the name of the entire work?"

"Men's Diary"

"Loser? Is that the kind of 'loser' I understand?"

"Yes." Zheng Nan nodded.

"I'm afraid the title of your work won't work."
