Chapter 49 Sun Heilei
The Sumeru School is the foremost Buddhist school in the world.
Originating in the Western Wilderness, it has been passed down for thousands of years, with its Buddhist teachings flourishing and its atmosphere for spiritual practice rich and profound.
Even though it is located in the desolate western wilderness, it has become a sacred place for countless Buddhist disciples to practice because of the flourishing of Buddhism and the gathering of believers. Hence, it is called "Western Paradise".
One hundred and fifty years ago, the Daqing Dynasty collapsed, and the Five-Eyed Alien Clan and the overseas Fusang took the opportunity to invade, plunging the Nine Provinces into continuous turmoil, and many ancient traditions were almost destroyed.
If it weren't for the powerful rise of the Great Qian Dynasty, which swept away all enemies, the Nine Provinces would probably have long since become foreign lands.
After the Nine Provinces were reunified, the land of Dongbin became the heartland of the Great Qian Dynasty.
However, this place is located by the sea and is prone to various troubles, and the remaining separatist forces within the area are also stirring up trouble.
To demonstrate its determination to resist foreign invaders, the Great Qian Dynasty established its capital in Shuntian, choosing a location in the northern part of Dongbin, directly facing the northeastern part of Kyushu, where foreign invaders were most likely to invade—the emperor guarding the nation's gate, his power awe-inspiring throughout the four seas and eight directions.
The coastal and southern regions of Dongbin urgently need the support of powerful sects, in addition to the garrison of the Daqian Dynasty.
The Sumeru Sect and the Purple Qi Palace, assessing the situation, took the initiative to establish close ties with the Great Qian Dynasty.
With the support of the dynasty, both factions moved their sects to Dongbin, becoming powerful sects relied upon by the Great Qian Dynasty due to their profound sect foundations.
Although the Purple Qi Mansion has moved to the East Coast, it still calls itself the Purple Qi Mansion of the Western Wilderness.
The Sumeru Sect ultimately chose Songcheng in the southern part of Dongbin as its location. This place is adjacent to the southern border, which can not only deter the monsters and tribes in the southern border, but also echo the Shuntian capital in the north, making it an important barrier for the Great Qian in the southern part of Dongbin.
The sect's territory occupies nearly half of Songcheng's land, with its palaces stretching for dozens of miles from the foot of the mountain to the summit. The gilded roof tiles gleam in the sunlight, and incense burns continuously throughout the year. This pure land of Brahma can be seen from hundreds of miles away.
All Buddhist sects in the world regard the Sumeru School as the orthodox school, and countless monks come to worship and seek Buddha every year.
The Buddhist scriptures treasured in the sect's library are vast and numerous, ranging from ancient Buddhist traditions to contemporary cultivation experiences, encompassing everything. Even other major sects have to send envoys to purchase and copy them.
In the world of spiritual practice, the Sumeru School holds a significant position. Its unique Buddhist method of cultivating a golden body is hailed as the "number one defensive method in the world"—it can temper the physical body, forging a body of steel, and also purify the mind and spirit, resisting the invasion of evil spirits.
The abbots of the Sumeru Sect throughout history have all been leading figures in the cultivation world. Whenever a major event occurs in the Nine Provinces, they are always invited to participate in discussions, and their opinions are enough to influence the decisions of many forces.
What's even more remarkable is that, although the Xumi Sect maintained close ties with the Daqian Dynasty, it always took "saving all living beings and protecting the nine provinces" as its mission, and enjoyed extremely high prestige among the people.
The people revered the monks as living bodhisattvas, and whenever disaster struck, they would go to the nearby Sumi sect branch temple to pray for blessings and peace.
Yuncheng is a small city located about 20 to 30 miles from Songcheng, with a population of around 300,000.
It is neither a military stronghold nor a place with rare specialties; it is just an ordinary small town.
But this ordinary little town was completely changed because of one person—to be precise, because of one woman.
A woman you'll never forget after just one meeting.
The woman's name was Sun Heilei.
Putting aside her so-called "stunning beauty", her enviable figure alone is enough to make people "look away": a five-foot-wide waist, a five-foot-full chest, and a five-foot-round hip. With each movement, her protruding belly would ripple.
She has always claimed to be eighteen years old, but she looks like a forty-year-old middle-aged woman.
Sun Heilei was already of marriageable age, but she could not get married and no one even came to propose marriage.
There were eight hundred matchmakers in Yuncheng, and every household listed her as someone they would "never serve." She was even jointly recognized by the matchmakers as "an insurmountable gap in the history of the matchmaking world."
It is said that once, because of her troubled marriage, she went to the Xumi Temple in Songcheng to pray for good fortune. As a result, the Buddha statues in the temple were disturbed that day and left a few drops of golden tears. Later, the abbot of the Xumi Temple understood why the temple, which was usually crowded with people, was deserted that day.
From then on, if the door god portraits in Yuncheng didn't feature Sun Heilei's image, they simply wouldn't sell.
She single-handedly pioneered a new way of exorcising evil spirits in Yuncheng.
Many businesses suffered losses due to her "notoriety," and privately they went around inquiring about Sun Heilei's sister, mother, and grandmother, but dared not mention her personally.
Faced with Yuncheng's unique "cultural landscape," some people harbored malicious intentions and wanted to "save the people," so they hired assassins to deal with Sun Heilei.
But in the end, the assassin arrived, only to run away crying: "I just can't bring myself to do it! Let her live; living is the greatest punishment for her!"
But there are always some people who don't believe in superstition.
Some people, when they achieve success to the point of blind faith, think they are omnipotent—Matchmaker Zhang is one such person.
She was known as the "Number One Matchmaker in China," and every marriage she arranged went smoothly.
Even if they are sworn enemies, as long as she has a silver tongue and a red thread to tie the knot, she can make the two people willingly become in-laws.
Some say that her words can make stones bloom, trick sows into climbing trees, and even persuade monks to marry and have children.
Upon learning of Sun Heile's existence, matchmaker Zhang was overjoyed.
She seemed to see her career about to reach new heights, reaching a level that future generations could not reach, and becoming a legend throughout Kyushu.
So she volunteered to be a matchmaker for Sun Heilei.
Who would have thought that the myth of this "King of Matchmakers" would be completely shattered, leaving behind the joke of "hanging himself from a tree in the southeast".
Sun Heilei is still single.
This completely enraged Sun Heilei.
In a fit of rage, she declared that she would steal the bride: "Whoever I catch will be my husband!"
On that day, there wasn't a single man to be seen in Yuncheng, not even a boar.
There was one exception, however—Yuan Kong, who was invited to Yuncheng to slaughter pigs at that time.
On the empty street, their eyes met, and sparks of love ignited between them.
Yuan Kong was stunned by the scene before him, frozen in place as if petrified. Looking at Sun Heilei in front of him, a question arose in his mind: "Is this... a pig that has become a spirit?"
But in Sun Heilei's eyes, it was a completely different story: like a turtle eyeing a green bean, like thunder colliding with fire—"This is love!"
The prince met the frog; one ran, and the other chased.
When Master Xuanchen of the Sumeru Sect learned of this, he simply replied, "If one cannot save even one person, how can one save the world?"
From that moment on, Sun Heilei was convinced that Yuan Kong was her true love.
She chased him from Yuncheng to Songcheng, from Songcheng to Yuhang, and now she's chased him to this demon island.
"How could I dare to stay with my fellow disciples? How could I possibly have the chance to travel with them?" Monk Yidao asked wistfully after finishing recounting his "family affairs."
Wang Xiao had only one thought in his mind: This monk is completely hopeless; he can even come up with such originality in his boasting.
Just then, the earth suddenly trembled.
Before Wang Xiao could even get up, Yuan Kong panicked and ran away.
Before running off, he tossed a wind chime to Wang Xiao and urgently called out, "Brother Lu, please explain to Fairy Su that I have something urgent to attend to and cannot keep our appointment!"
"Husband, don't run so fast! I can't keep up!"
"Wait a minute, Nunu..."
The voice was devoid of any shyness, only chilling and terrifying.
Wang Xiao's heart skipped a beat—what Yuan Kong said was all true! He really did see that "flower of Yuncheng".
The tremors of the earth were not caused by a ferocious beast, but were entirely caused by this woman.
Her face was covered with a thick layer of foundation, which fell off as she ran, like a light snowflake gently drifting down.
Even so, the white foundation couldn't hide her dark skin; the black base with white edges looked like a large pile of cow dung covered with a layer of white frost.
Looking at her features: red eyebrows, slanted eyes, crooked nose, split mouth, and a terrifying set of large fangs.
Wang Xiao stared at the enormous figure heading straight for the sky, utterly bewildered in the wind.
"It's truly an unforgettable meeting!"
