15: Lin Ye's Killer Instinct
have to say.
Akemi Miyano's connection wasn't entirely unfounded. As an outsider, she had little contact with the organization, so naturally she was unaware of the various rumors surrounding Madeira.
From a normal perspective, it's unbelievable that Lin Ye would be willing to offend Gin to help them. How could there be such a warm-hearted person in the organization?
But if there's something between Lin Ye and Shiho Miyano, then everything makes sense. Her sister Shin's estrangement is probably because she's afraid of her feelings being discovered.
After all, her younger sister had always known that she hated the people in the organization—the more Miyano Akemi thought about it, the more she felt that her guess might really be the truth.
Her reasoning was flawless.
That makes sense.
Shiho Miyano is incredibly beautiful, so it's no wonder Madeira would fall for her—but! Everything is based on Lin Ye's and her own imagination!
Of course, she didn't know that Lin Ye only cared about making money by running away.
Just as the woman was lost in thought, Inspector Megure turned to Akemi Miyano, his attitude noticeably gentler: "This is...your girlfriend, right?"
He was also working with Lin Ye.
"Um."
Lin Ye naturally admitted it, since that was how the previous statement was taken.
Akemi Miyano stood up at the opportune moment and bowed slightly: "Hello, my name is Akemi Miyano. He said he was a little unhappy, so I came out with him today to cheer him up."
Her voice was gentle and appropriate, and her demeanor was graceful and natural, revealing absolutely no flaws.
"It's certainly unpleasant to encounter something like that." Inspector Megure nodded, didn't ask any further questions, and began his routine inquiry into their timeline for the day.
Lin Ye replied that they arrived at the coffee shop about half an hour earlier, ordered drinks, and sat in a corner booth chatting. They didn't leave their seats during that time and didn't notice anything unusual. He didn't know who the deceased was, nor did he know anyone in the coffee shop.
Akemi Miyano's answer was basically the same as his, except for some details—such as what drinks they ordered and what topics they talked about.
Of course, there was some fabrication involved, but since Lin Ye was right next to her, Miyano Akemi wasn't worried that her words wouldn't match Lin Ye's.
In fact, Lin Ye was also cooperating, and the two worked together very well. This wasn't just due to tacit understanding, but rather because the organization had provided relevant training.
The distillery is a legitimate dark organization.
Inspector Megure listened and nodded, seemingly without any questions. He verified the situation with the shop assistant, confirming that neither of them had the opportunity to commit the crime.
"Okay, thank you for your help. I might contact you again if needed." The store didn't have security cameras, but all of this was expected.
"No problem." Lin Ye sighed.
Inspector Megure turned around to check the scene, but after taking two steps, he stopped and looked back at Lin Ye.
"By the way, Dr. Hashimoto," he said, "how's the injury on the back of your head?"
Lin Ye touched the back of his head; the bump was still there, but it didn't hurt as much anymore. "Much better, thank you for your concern."
"That's good." After saying that, Inspector Megure walked towards the restroom.
Lin Ye and Miyano Akemi sat down again, waiting to be allowed to leave.
The coffee shop was so quiet that you could hear the officers talking in hushed tones, occasionally the sound of camera shutters clicking, and the crisp sound of metal tools hitting the floor tiles.
Lin Ye's gaze swept casually across the coffee shop.
Three women, seemingly a group of girlfriends having lunch, were sitting by the window. They were whispering to each other and occasionally glancing towards the restroom.
In another corner sat a middle-aged man in a suit and tie, with a cup of coffee that had gone cold in front of him. His face was ashen, and his fingers were tapping unconsciously on the table.
A young male waiter stood next to the bar, his face pale, being questioned by a police officer. He spoke haltingly, as if trying to recall something.
There was also a woman sitting alone near the door.
She was around thirty years old, dressed in a well-fitting beige suit, her hair pulled back in a low ponytail, her makeup impeccable, and an empty coffee cup sat before her. Her expression was calm, far more so than that of an ordinary customer who had just witnessed a murder scene.
This person didn't whisper like a group of girlfriends, nor was she nervous like the man in the suit, nor was she panicked like the waiter.
She just sat there quietly, flipping through a magazine.
She turned the pages slowly, as if she were reading intently, but Lin Ye noticed that her gaze wasn't focused on the magazine pages. Her eyes were wandering, observing, calculating.
Her fingers were long and fair, her nails were neatly trimmed, and she wasn't wearing nail polish.
Her hands were very steady.
He was so steady, unlike an ordinary person.
Lin Ye stared at the woman for a few seconds, and the observation skills he had accumulated in the training space began to work automatically in his mind—her posture, her breathing rate, the pressure of her fingers when she turned the page, the location of her gaze, and the subtle changes in her pupils when the police officer passed by.
All the details point to the same conclusion.
"I see."
Lin Ye withdrew his gaze and turned to Inspector Megure.
"Inspector Megure."
Inspector Megure was speaking quietly with a forensic investigator near the restroom entrance when he heard the voice and looked up: "What's wrong, Dr. Hashimoto?"
Lin Ye pointed to the woman sitting at the door.
"She's the murderer."
Dr. Hashimoto, the distillery's top assassin, just wants to leave as soon as possible.
With each of these, the air in the coffee shop seemed to freeze instantly.
Everyone's eyes, including Miyano Akemi's, turned to Lin Ye, and then followed his finger to the woman at the door, whose hand was resting on the magazine page.
My fingers stiffened slightly.
Then she looked up at Lin Ye, a perfectly timed expression of confusion on her face: "Sir, what are you talking about?"
The woman is a very good actress.
However, it is still somewhat inferior to Lin Ye's rigorous training in the system space.
"Dr. Hashimoto, are you sure?"
Inspector Megure's voice was exceptionally clear in the quiet coffee shop.
"Sure."
Lin Ye spoke calmly, as if stating an obvious fact.
"She's the murderer."
Lin Ye didn't care about being a detective; he just wanted to resolve the case as quickly as possible. He didn't stand up, nor did he raise his voice intentionally.
But everyone in the coffee shop heard him. All eyes followed his gaze and focused on the woman sitting alone by the door.
The woman's hand remained on the magazine page; she neither looked up nor spoke.
Inspector Megure walked over and stood beside Lin Ye, lowering his voice: "Dr. Hashimoto, don't talk nonsense. Don't you know your own level of reasoning?"
It's not prejudice.
As a police officer.
Inspector Megure really finds it hard to believe someone who claims to have watched GG's resurrection.
