Legendary Captain

Chapter 15 What do you want to do?

Anyone with a modicum of sense could sense the anger in Xu Xian's tone. Although the student's brain short-circuited when it came to matters related to flying, he was still a normal person in other matters.

Sensing that Xu Xian was about to explode, the trainees dared not say another word and readily agreed.

The drive checklist is actually quite simple. Just open the generator drive disconnect switch cover, turn the switch to the disconnect position, and you can disconnect the generator to prevent damage.

Next, the APU needs to be started. Since the generator drive is disconnected, the corresponding AC power supply is unavailable, so the APU power supply must be connected.

It is important to note that the generator drive disconnection operation is irreversible. That is to say, after disconnection, even if the power switch is turned back on and the cover is closed, it will not return to its original state.

Therefore, there is a cover on the ignition switch, and the cover is red. This is to remind the operator to be extremely careful!

Once the generator drive is disconnected, it means that there will only be two AC power sources for the subsequent flight. This is a critical point. If another AC power source is lost, they will no longer be able to continue flying.

"Tsk tsk tsk, how come we didn't bring it into the ditch?" He Changyuan clicked his tongue with regret. He was just a little bit short of making a mistake on the inspection form, which was one of the red lines that would have directly resulted in the inspection being deemed unqualified.

It was so close again!

However, He Changyuan realized that this trainee was truly useless, making things worse everywhere. There was still a chance for him to lead Xu Xian astray.

For a moment, He Changyuan even felt a little sorry for Xu Xian. If he were in Xu Xian's position, he might have wanted to kill him.

"Beat my teammates and protect my enemies"—that's exactly what this cooperative student is all about!

So far, the subjects set by Ho Chang-yuan haven't been particularly difficult, but they're extremely misleading for newcomers. With such a PM who's more of a hindrance than a help, Ho Chang-yuan feels that it would be a disservice to his painstaking efforts in selecting the pilots if he didn't make good use of them.

After the plane leveled off, Xu Xian finally relaxed a little, touching his forehead, which was covered in cold sweat. In just over an hour, Xu Xian felt like he had lost two years of his life.

There are only forty minutes left, just bear with it...

Xu Xian tilted his head back slightly, trying to stretch his slightly sore neck, and just then he saw the booster panel!

The cabin altitude gauge is rising!

The aircraft has clearly reached the set cruising altitude and leveled off, so the automatic pressurization mode should have switched from climb mode to cruise mode. The cabin altitude should not have changed!

"Is the cabin altitude abnormal right now?" Xu Xian asked the student next to him after activating autopilot.

He Changyuan said to use manual flight as much as possible, but he didn't say that autopilot couldn't be used. In case of abnormal situations, it's acceptable to engage autopilot, since more effort needs to be devoted to handling the malfunction. Continuing with manual flight in such situations would be foolish!

The previous driver failure was too simple; Xu Xian basically understood it, and whether or not to continue with autonomous driving was irrelevant. However, given the current situation, even Xu Xian himself is somewhat unsure.

The trainee had never expected that Xu Xian would ask him questions. His mind went blank for two seconds, then he turned his attention to the cockpit altitude gauge, and then went blank for two seconds again, as was his habit.

"Brother, what should the cockpit altitude be?" Goodness, the student not only didn't answer Xu Xian's question, but also didn't offer any constructive suggestions. Instead, he took the initiative and asked Xu Xian directly.

If you can't solve the problem, then solve the person who raised it—that's truly ingenious!

At this moment, Xu Xian was incredibly grateful that he had experienced the devastating tragedy of his family's bankruptcy. The upheavals of his youth had forged an incredibly resilient heart within him. Otherwise, even now, Xu Xian would surely have suffered a stroke from anger and died on the spot!

He's gone mad, so mad that he actually thinks he can get the answer from that big shot!

Ignoring the trainees, Xu Xian decided to diagnose the fault himself. He directly switched the booster mode selector to the manual position and then switched the outflow valve to the closed position until the indicator was completely closed.

Even after the outflow valve was completely closed, the cabin altitude gauge still indicated a certain rate of ascent.

This is definitely not normal. The outflow valve is already fully closed, and the cabin altitude shouldn't be able to rise any further. Unless... it's depressurizing!

It's not about rapid stress release, but slow stress release!

Unlike rapid depressurization, which is caused by severe damage to the aircraft leading to a rapid increase in cabin altitude, slow depressurization is more likely due to a faulty door seal, resulting in a tiny gap that allows pressurized air to leak out, causing the cabin altitude to rise continuously.

There is still a chance to salvage this situation: descend to below 10,000 feet before the cabin altitude warning sounds!

"Notify the control center to request a rapid descent!" Xu Xian instructed the trainee.

The trainee, seemingly understanding but not quite, followed Xu Xian's instructions and notified control: "Star Travel Training Machine, requesting rapid descent!"

Instructor He Changyuan remained seated at the control panel, refusing to respond, as if he hadn't heard a word.

The student raised their voice: "Star Travel Training Machine, requesting an immediate descent!"

Instructor He Changyuan remained silent.

"Brother, there's no response from the control center, what should we do?" the trainee asked Xu Xiandao, unsure how to handle the current situation where the control center was not responding.

Xu Xian was already adjusting the course and altitude: "We'll turn right 30 degrees, offset to the right by 6 nautical miles, and descend to the safe altitude of 11300 feet according to procedure!"

"Brother, are you sure we don't need to tell the control?" The trainee was still a little worried.

Xu Xian didn't even bother to answer, continuing to give orders: "Make an announcement to the passengers, telling them to fasten their seatbelts. Also... inform the flight crew of the situation and prepare for an emergency descent!"

"An emergency descent?" The trainee was momentarily confused.

Following Xu Xian's instructions, the trainees made the passenger announcement in a similar manner, and then notified the crew to prepare for an emergency descent.

"If the cabin altitude warning sounds later, switch to emergency descent. I'll hand over control to you, understand?" Xu Xian reminded him.

According to regulations, in the event of a sudden decompression, control must be handed over to the left-hand driver; this is clearly stated in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). However, Xu Xian was worried that the trainees might not know this and that if he abruptly handed over control later, they would be caught off guard.

After giving his instructions, Xu Xian turned his attention back to the flight data on his PFD.

Suddenly, Xu Xian sensed something and turned his head to see the trainee half-sitting up, his right hand already reaching for the passenger oxygen switch on the back panel!

Xu Xian's eyes widened in anger, and he roared, "What do you want to do?"
