Legendary Captain

"These safety supervisors are really bored..." Qin Zongyang felt an overwhelming sense of irritation as he looked at the densely packed simulator videos on his computer.

If it weren't for the position of general manager of the flight department, which required him to actively participate in administrative tasks, why would a man in his fifties have to suffer like this?

Qin Zongyang shifted the cushion under his waist; it was specially prepared for him by the young staff member of Feibiao, who noticed that Qin Zongyang was getting old.

The Safety Supervision Department will regularly conduct random checks on recent simulator videos in conjunction with the Flight Department. This is mainly because the company has recently been imposing increasingly strict disciplinary requirements on simulator training inspections, such as whether headphones are worn and whether rest time has been exceeded. The Safety Supervision Department and the Flight Department are only conducting routine checks.

Qin Zongyang needs to select at least two simulator training or inspection videos and watch them in their entirety. A standard simulator training or inspection lasts two hours, so two sessions would take four hours, and there can be no fast-forwarding. Therefore, this job is actually quite tedious, but what can be done? In order to get a permanent position before retirement, this kind of work attitude must be maintained.

However, this method alone seems to have little effect on defeating Lu Xinyu. His failure in the teaching group remains his most fatal weakness, and without overcoming this weakness, Lu Xinyu will be an insurmountable obstacle for him.

"Why haven't I met a single good apprentice?" Qin Zongyang felt that the times were tough, and none of the apprentices he had trained had brought him any honor; they were just examples of his poor teaching ability.

To this day, Qin Zongyang still doesn't think the problem lies in his teaching methods, but rather in his bad luck—he's just taken on some mediocre students. If he could take on a truly talented apprentice, then the problems with the teaching team would no longer be an issue.

Unfortunately, when he really wanted to find a good prospect, he just couldn't find one.

"What kind of terrible judgment do those recruiting officers have lately? Not a single one of them is useful." Qin Zongyang became angrier the more he thought about it, and even started to complain about the recruiting officers.

After letting out a sigh of relief, Qin Zongyang turned his gaze back to the computer desktop, which contained a full twenty video recordings, enough to give him a headache just looking at them.

"Which one should I watch?" Qin Zongyang was a little stumped. The video title indicated the date of the simulator training or inspection. He suddenly remembered what He Changyuan had told him on the phone a couple of days ago. After a pause, he selected the video of Xu Xian's inspection of the flight crew.

The video begins when Xu Xian and the others enter the simulator cabin. Qin Zongyang finds a comfortable position and leans against the armrest of the chair at a slight angle.

After watching for over an hour, Qin Zongyang was already dozing off. Apart from the quick reaction from the side that aborted takeoff, there didn't seem to be any particularly impressive maneuvers. After watching the video so far, Qin Zongyang just thought the trainees who cooperated were stupid.

Qin Zongyang changed his posture, put his hands behind his head, stretched, and looked slightly disappointed. Just two days ago, He Changyuan had described this student as something extraordinary, but after seeing him today, he seemed rather unremarkable.

"Old He's really getting old and his eyesight is failing." Qin Zongyang yawned, forcing himself to watch the last part of the recording.

From beginning to end, Qin Zongyang's expression remained unchanged until he saw the scene where Xu Xian unilaterally announced the captain's incapacity, at which point Qin Zongyang revealed a knowing smile.

"You've really made me laugh..." Qin Zongyang was genuinely amused. It was quite rare for the co-pilot to forcibly declare the captain incapacitated and expel him.

Having regained some of his strength, Qin Zongyang was finally able to hold on until the very last five rounds.

Suddenly, Qin Zongyang's eyelids twitched, and his right hand, which had been resting on the armrest of the chair, finally moved. He clicked on the keyboard, rewinding the video by half a minute and selecting 0.5x slow motion.

What He Changyuan experienced and saw has now been captured by Qin Zongyang again.

It was a short operation involving only five sides, or more precisely, the operation within a few seconds of the last hundred feet.

"Surgical precision!" That was Qin Zongyang's first impression after watching Xu Xian's maneuver. Such flawless execution shouldn't be the work of a co-pilot of Xu Xian's caliber.

Qin Zongyang finally understood why He Changyuan had recommended Xu Xian to him; perhaps... Xu Xian truly was his lifeline.

......

In the flight squadron office, Cao Jinwen was about to pack up and leave when Qin Zongyang blocked him at the door.

"Old Cao, what do you think the chances are that if I can really make up for what happened in the teaching group, the higher-ups will choose me?" Qin Zongyang asked Cao Jinwen with great seriousness.

Compared to him, the deputy general manager of the flight department, Cao Jinwen, the old hand, seemed to be better at understanding the thoughts of the higher-ups. Asking Cao Jinwen would always give you a clear idea.

Cao Jinwen was getting annoyed: "That's something only you can handle. The company's inspections are much stricter now than before. Are you sure the person you choose can accumulate 100 points within six years?"

"Accumulating 100 points within six years is not a hard and fast rule. If you perform exceptionally well, or accumulate 100 points ahead of time, it doesn't necessarily take six years," Qin Zongyang corrected.

"Don't you know that even President Lu took four years to accumulate 100 points? The current general manager of the flight department will retire in less than three years. Do you think anyone can accumulate 100 points in three years? Old Qin, although it's hard to accept, but... give up. The sins you committed in the past are now your retribution!" Cao Jinwen sighed.

In fact, if Qin Zongyang had simply followed proper procedures to release his apprentice from the captain's position, things wouldn't be in such a passive position now. However, in his pursuit of power and profit, Qin Zongyang disregarded his apprentices, resulting in none of his few apprentices having legitimate careers.

Previously, there were no evaluation standards for the teaching team's performance when appointing the general manager of the flight department. These standards were only added in recent years, and it was this newly added evaluation standard that became Qin Zongyang's performance report!

"I'm not reconciled!" Qin Zongyang said, his emotions running high. "I've fought for this position half my life, and now all I want is to get rid of that 'deputy' title. I must have that position, otherwise I won't be at peace! Now you want me to give up? Are you asking me to admit that all my previous efforts were in vain?"

"That's your opinion; reality won't change according to your thoughts," Cao Jinwen said.

"All I want to know now is how likely it is that if I solve this problem, the higher-ups will agree?" Qin Zongyang didn't want to argue with Cao Jinwen anymore; he just wanted a definite answer.

Cao Jinwen: "If you can truly resolve this, there's at least an 80% chance the higher-ups will let you take over!"

Qin Zongyang's gaze sharpened, radiating unwavering determination: "I won't let that brat Lu Xinyu get his way so easily!"

Suddenly, Cao Jinwen's expression turned serious, and he straightened his posture.

A sneer suddenly came from behind Qin Zongyang: "I'd like to see how you're going to stop me from getting my way!"
