Legendary Captain

Chapter 21 The Hot Potato Vase

Qin Zongyang turned around abruptly as if he had been electrocuted, his face meeting Lu Xinyu, who was not far away.

Lu Xinyu was extremely tall, at least 1.85 meters, making the contrast even more striking when he stood next to Qin Zongyang and Cao Jinwen, who were of average height.

He has broad shoulders and a very large frame. He has a square face and short, neat hair that stands up straight, giving him a decisive and efficient air.

Lu Xinyu stepped forward and stood tall in front of Qin Zongyang, the height difference making the situation even more oppressive.

"You think you can make up for what you've done in the last few years of your life? I think the one who won't get it is you!" Lu Xinyu looked down at Qin Zongyang, his words still full of sarcasm even though he was facing Qin Zongyang, who was senior and, in principle, of the same level as him.

Qin Zongyang's current position seems to have come at the cost of his entire career's reputation. Even though he's the third-ranking figure in the entire flight department, the fleet hasn't assigned him any apprentices in the last two years.

Logically speaking, as the deputy general manager of the flight department, his future flying career should have been much more convenient, but in reality, this was not the case.

Qin Zongyang had a terrible reputation in the flight department. He was only interested in climbing the ranks; he had no interest in disciples. As his disciple, you learned absolutely nothing and had to figure everything out on your own. But how many people in the world, like Lu Xinyu, could make such rapid progress without a master's guidance?

If a pilot's skills are not up to par and their foundation is not strong enough, no one will care who their mentor is when it comes to the final hurdle!

And that's the truth!

Qin Zongyang's previous apprentices all failed at the captain recruitment stage. During the co-pilot phase of the inspection, inspectors might be lenient due to Qin Zongyang's presence. But when it comes to the captain's inspection, it doesn't matter who your master is; everyone is treated equally!

During the captain's inspection, whoever signs off on the "passes" section is held responsible. If a major accident occurs to the captain in the future, the inspectors who signed off on the captain's inspection will be held accountable.

There might be some opportunities to muddle through during the co-pilot phase, but no matter how well you do in the co-pilot phase, the final test is still based on ability. Your mentor or anything like that is completely useless!

Having learned from past mistakes, those who followed Qin Zongyang essentially had their careers cut off from becoming captains. Because of this, the trainees assigned to Qin Zongyang in the previous two years faced fierce backlash, even going so far as to complain to higher management and demanding a change in training groups.

At that time, the flight department had already added the performance of the teaching team to the evaluation criteria for appointing a general manager. Qin Zongyang also wanted to cultivate his apprentices well, but he really looked down on those mediocre ones, which ultimately suited the students' wishes.

They couldn't stand each other, so they parted ways without any trouble!

Qin Zongyang was satisfied at the time, but after two years, he still hadn't found a disciple who could turn his fortunes around. Sometimes he even wonders if he had just taken in those good-for-nothings two years ago; perhaps there would be a better chance now. At least he wouldn't be waiting aimlessly like he is now.

It's no secret that Qin Zongyang has a bad reputation in the flight department, so Lu Xinyu's use of this to satirize Qin Zongyang hits the nail on the head.

Qin Zongyang was so angry he was practically fuming. Standing in front of Lu Xinyu, his head barely reached Lu Xinyu's chin, which made him extremely annoyed.

"Arrogant brat!" Qin Zongyang cursed angrily and strode away.

It looked like a confrontation between Qin Zongyang and Lu Xinyu, but anyone with a discerning eye could see that Qin Zongyang had no presence whatsoever in front of Lu Xinyu.

Although the flight department has two deputy general managers who appear to be on equal footing, Lu Xinyu is in charge of flight operations while Qin Zongyang is in charge of administration. From any perspective, Lu Xinyu has more power, which reflects the superiors' bias towards Lu Xinyu and Qin Zongyang.

No matter how unwilling Qin Zongyang is to admit it, he is at a disadvantage, and this disadvantage is likely to crush him.

After Qin Zongyang stormed out, only Lu Xinyu and Cao Jinwen remained in the room. Cao Jinwen displayed considerable respect towards his superior.

"Wang Jinyan told me that no instructor is willing to take on Lian Shanxue's initial modification. What's going on?" Lu Xinyu plopped down on the office sofa and looked up coldly at Cao Jinwen, who was still standing.

The matter concerning Lian Shanxue was relayed directly from the president's office. With the current general manager of the flight department nearing retirement, he became the highest-ranking official in this matter and had to take extra care of it.

Just now, he went to Feibiao to inquire whether the initial simulator modification plan for Lian Shanxue had been finalized. He was told that the plan had been finalized yesterday, but they just couldn't find a suitable instructor.

Whether it was pre-arranged or just a huge coincidence, after making a round of phone calls, not a single instructor with simulator training qualifications was willing to take on this initial conversion training task.

Finally, the simulator supervisor at Feibiao had no choice but to bring up Lu Xinyu, hoping to use him to intimidate the instructors. Unexpectedly, this provoked a fierce backlash from the instructors. Several instructors directly stated that if anyone dared to schedule them for simulator training, they would dare to take a month of sick leave.

The instructors' consistent statements left the simulator supervisor helpless, and he ultimately had no choice but to tell Lu Xinyu the truth.

Lu Xinyu called several instructors, intending to personally lobby them. However, the result remained unchanged...

Facing the deputy general manager of the flight department, the instructors naturally couldn't put on airs, but each of them seemed to have prepared their reasons, and after a tearful and impassioned explanation, Lu Xinyu really had no way to deal with them.

He knew that although he was now the number two figure in the flight department, his position was unstable, and it would be unwise to turn against so many instructors all at once. Even though he was furious, he suppressed it and now vented his anger on Cao Jinwen.

Upon hearing Lu Xinyu's words, Cao Jinwen hesitated, not wanting to offend his superior.

Seeing Cao Jinwen's frustrated expression, Lu Xinyu said impatiently, "Just say what you have to say!"

"President Lu, the instructors' reluctance to take on the initial modifications of Lianshanxue isn't directed at you; it's simply not worth it!" Cao Jinwen explained.

Lu Xinyu asked, puzzled, "What's not worth it?"

"Lianshanxue is currently a vase on the president's desk. Pleasing this vase won't earn you the president's favor, but failing to take good care of it will bring unexpected trouble. President Lu, who do you think would take on this thankless task?" Cao Jinwen said.

Lian Shanxue may seem to be enjoying great success now, but she has no connection with the president and doesn't have a particularly impressive resume, so it's obvious that she won't be able to get into the upper management.

Who would be willing to take on this hot potato when there is no background, no future, yet someone you absolutely cannot mess with?
