Legendary Captain

Chapter 51 The Enthusiastic Co-pilot

Typically, a trainee's first flight is accompanied by the first co-pilot.

Last night, Xu Xian sent a message to the first co-pilot. The message mainly stated that it was his first time on the flight and he hoped the co-pilot would guide him. However, the co-pilot didn't reply. Later, seeing it was getting late, Xu Xian felt awkward calling and let it go.

Of course, even if a reply were given, it wouldn't help Xu Xian's current situation in the slightest.

In order to take the bus, Xu Xian had to set aside a large amount of extra time, which meant that he arrived much earlier than the bus attendant.

At this moment, in the flight preparation room, in addition to the original three-person crew, there was the co-pilot who had just cut in line, and finally Xu Xian.

After the co-pilot finished the alcohol test, he put down the flight case and fiddled with his phone for a while, as if he was replying to messages.

Soon after, it seemed that everything was settled. She put away her phone and was about to go get the flight information. But she had only taken a couple of steps when she glanced at him and saw that Xu Xian was sitting there properly, but there was no flight information in front of him. Was he completely lost in thought?

"Hey bro, are you adding more crew?" The co-pilot stopped next to Xu Xian and asked curiously.

Xu Xian, who was lost in thought, suddenly heard a question in his ear, and his body trembled violently, startling the passenger in the front seat.

"Hey bro, what are you thinking?" The co-pilot looked down at Xu Xian's boarding pass. "Xu Xian? A newbie?"

Xingyou Airlines isn't a large company, but he's been flying for several years now, and his network is small; he knows everyone he needs to know. Therefore, he could tell at a glance whether Xu Xian was a newcomer or not.

Most importantly, the newcomers' expressions and movements are relatively easy to discern; he does have a good eye.

Xu Xian had been trying to recall the flight information he'd seen last night, but Xia Qing's image kept popping into his mind, making it difficult for him to concentrate. It was in this chaotic state that he was called out, which is why he reacted so strongly.

Upon recognizing the co-pilot as someone he had just met, Xu Xian composed himself and glanced at the co-pilot's boarding pass as well.

Wu Feng!

"Yes, this is my first day as an apprentice!" Xu Xian saw that Wu Feng was silent and knew without guessing that the other party must be a senior employee, unlike himself, a newcomer.

"First day?" Wu Feng looked around. "Where's your captain? Your first officer? Haven't they arrived yet? Which flight are you flying today?"

Wu Feng could tell that Xu Xian was a newcomer, but he never expected him to be a complete novice. Shouldn't this kind of rookie with absolutely no flight experience be with the first officer? Why are the captain and the first officer absent, leaving Xu Xian standing there in a daze?

"I'm flying flight 6533 today." Xu Xian spoke with considerable respect to his senior colleague, who was of a higher rank. Moreover, judging from Wu Feng's demeanor, his rank seemed to be more than just second officer; he was at least a third-level officer, practically at the first officer level.

Only when the first officer can form a two-person crew with the captain and instructor can it truly be considered part of the airline's capacity.

That's right. Strictly speaking, all trainees, first officers, and second officers cannot be considered part of an airline's operational capacity. This is because they can only serve as the third member of a three-person crew and cannot form a two-person crew with the captain or instructor. Due to these significant limitations, all second officers cannot be properly evaluated as part of an airline's operational capacity.

Only when a passenger reaches the level of first passenger can one be considered to have barely begun to stand on their own.

"6533? Tianning? The Tianning flight that departs at nine o'clock?" Wu Feng, a veteran co-pilot who had been flying for several years, was familiar with the schedules of most of the company's routes. He knew the schedules of flights like the one to Tianning, which had a relatively good timetable, like the one to Xu Xianyi. As soon as Xu Xianyi mentioned the flight number, Wu Feng guessed the destination airport and departure time.

Seeing the strange expression on Wu Feng's face, Xu Xian's heart skipped a beat: "Yes! Is there a problem?"

Xu Xian was afraid that because he was a novice, he might forget something. If he really forgot something, it would be too late to go back and get it now.

"Of course there's a problem! Damn, you're here way too early. No wonder the captain and first officer weren't here; I thought something had happened!" Wu Feng glanced at his watch and calculated the time. There were still more than forty minutes until check-in time! It would be strange if the captain and first officer hadn't come.

"What are you doing sitting here daydreaming?" Wu Feng looked at Xu Xian with a mix of amusement and exasperation. "The documents aren't ready yet, are they? It's too early, they haven't let us through yet!"

Xu Xian feigned confusion: "Huh? I need to get more documents? No... oh right! It should be that the documents haven't been released yet!"

Xu Xian made a sudden turn in his speech, and although he clearly had no idea about receiving the documents, he went along with Wu Feng's words and said it was the reason why the documents were not released.

Wu Feng didn't dwell too much on Xu Xian's tongue-tied speech; after all, it's normal to be a little nervous on your first day of work. He recalled his own first flight, when he couldn't even find the flight preparation room and ended up being late. On his very first shift, he received a reprimand and a thousand-yuan fine, becoming the laughingstock of his fellow trainees for a long time.

"Then wait a moment, I'll go get the documents." Wu Feng patted Xu Xian on the shoulder and walked to the distribution table alone.

"Is this for signing off on the assignments?" Xu Xian watched as Wu Feng walked to the long table near the entrance and spoke a few words to the staff inside. The staff then handed Wu Feng a stack of paper documents. Wu Feng took the documents, signed his name in a notebook on the table, and walked back.

Xu Xian suddenly realized: "Is this how you get the documents?"

Prior to this, Xu Xian knew that flight information was obtained from the dispatch desk. However, he had no idea whether the dispatch desk delivered the information to the flight crew or whether the flight crew went to the dispatch desk to retrieve it. In fact, from the moment he sat down, Xu Xian had been searching for the location of the dispatch desk.

To everyone's surprise, that inconspicuous long table was the dispatch station, and the person playing on their phone behind it was the dispatcher.

This work environment is way too relaxed! It's nothing like the airline he imagined!
