31. When did you start to have the illusion that I wasn't using the Phantom Book?
Is this correct?
When a normal person sees a bullet coming towards them, shouldn't they either dodge or try to cover their eyes with something?
Is it reasonable to just rush in and take the bullets head-on?
Most importantly, this is not the future I envisioned.
Why did you just take the bullet head-on? That's not how it's described in the Commentary on the Wheel of Fortune!
The young man should first materialize a phantom book to block the bullet, and then flick the bullet embedded in the book to his right, causing it to land on a magic circle he set up and trigger it.
Then the short girl used magic to try and break her own magic circle, in which she triggered a jar she had set on the roof, causing acid to spill out and fall on the woman in formal attire. As she dodged, she tackled the young man, triggering my setup...
Blackwood was completely distraught, even ignoring the sound of the bullet hitting steel.
He jumped up from his chair, gripping the parchment scroll on the table tightly. "Why did you take the bullet head-on?! This isn't how it's written in the Commentary on the Wheel of Fortune! I can't accept this!"
Seeing Blackwood's exasperated expression, Polina pointed at the parchment scroll and let out a mocking laugh: "Kukuku, you don't actually believe the future depicted in that illusion book, do you? No way, no way, no way!"
Blackwood roughly unrolled the parchment scroll in his hand and discovered that the future depicted on it had changed.
"Impossible, absolutely impossible!" Blackwood looked up abruptly. "Who are you?"
Lily's eyes were calm and unwavering; everything was exactly as she had anticipated.
She had seen enough of these people who, after accidentally acquiring one or two fantasy books, thought themselves invincible and arrogantly wanted to become gods of the new world.
Even the "Bookshelf of God," which truly possesses 2,673,665 illusory books, doesn't have such arrogant thoughts.
"Who we are is unimportant." Her voice was cold, carrying a firm strength. "What matters is that your 'fate' ends here."
After saying that, Lily rushed to the other side of the long table with lightning speed, just like a black lightning bolt.
She kicked Blackwood to the ground, then twisted his arms behind his back and bound his wrists together with a rope that glowed with a pale purple light.
He even stepped on the half-smoked cigar that had fallen to the ground to extinguish it, the leather boots rubbing against the solid wood floor, making a "creaking" sound.
Upon seeing this, Granger instinctively raised the silver pistol in his hand.
But it was still too late.
Polina attacked almost simultaneously with Lily, kicking the pistol away with a flying kick. At the same time, her entire body flipped in the air, her feet, clad in hard leather boots, drawing a sharp arc in the air before slamming into Granger's face.
"Mission accomplished!" Polina tilted her head, looking at Granger, whom she had bound, a playful smile curving her lips. "Poor fellow... you actually entrusted everything to that illusion book, without even preparing a backup plan..."
Is that it?
Dorian didn't expect it to be resolved so quickly. From the time he was teleported here until now, has even a minute passed?
He walked across the long table and picked up the white pistol that Polina had kicked away.
I have to say, this gun has a pretty cool design.
"That 'Commentary on the Wheel of Fortune' doesn't show the only future, but only the most logical one among all possible futures. Just now, my sister's completely illogical act of taking the bullet head-on was the most direct denial of it..." Polina stepped on Granger, who was already lying on the ground, with the tip of her shoe, enjoying his humiliated and unwilling expression.
Why are you starting to explain?
Dorian frowned, feeling like he was the villain.
Isn't that how it's always portrayed in anime? The villain starts smugly explaining his evil plan to the protagonist, without delivering the final blow, giving the protagonist time to unleash his full power and turn the tables.
However, I'm probably not the villain on my side, I should be... the protagonist.
"We've caught them. What's next? Kill them?" Dorian turned to Lily.
Then he saw Lily's expression change for the first time. She frowned slightly, and her words carried a hint of doubt: "Why would you have such a thought?"
"Of course, we gather intelligence first, then hand it over to the police. We are not a law enforcement agency, and we don't kill people unless absolutely necessary."
Dorian: ...
Oh no, will she start to think of me as a psychopathic killer?
"Tell me, why did you smuggle the Phantom Books? Where did you get them from? Where are the other Phantom Books now?" Lily crouched down, staring intently at Blackwood, who was lying on the ground.
"Why? It's to purify you damned demi-humans." Blackwood was unusually relaxed, without the slightest hint of tension.
Lily's eyes widened instantly, her mouth slightly agape, as if she had been struck by lightning.
"You are clearly noble pure-blooded humans, so why did you join the demi-human liberation organization? This is a betrayal of your own noble bloodline!" Blackwood's words revealed a hint of pity, which was completely inconsistent with his current situation.
Hearing this, Lily calmed down and returned to her usual expressionless poker face: "Why do you think we're from the Demi-human Liberation Organization?"
Blackwood sneered, "Only you know about the Illusionary Books, and only you know I smuggled this batch of Illusionary Books. Because my channels are you! You would never have imagined that you were handling materials used to purify yourselves."
"However, since you've come all this way, it seems you found out and are here to cause me trouble, right?" Blackwood was clearly very confident in his guess.
Lily didn't deny it. Although she didn't know why he had such thoughts, it was obviously more appropriate to go along with him for now:
"What are you planning to do?"
"The reason you've survived to this day is entirely due to the Empire's tolerance. But our people have already entered the Parliament, and this tolerance will soon end! We, the Blue Bloods, will also rise to prominence, form a political party, and manipulate the Empire's situation!" Blackwood replied irrelevantly, a hint of fanaticism in his eyes.
"But these things are probably none of your business anymore." Dorian looked at the silver-white pistol in his hand.
"Why would you think that?" Blackwood, lying on the ground, remained unperturbed, exuding confidence. "I say, when did you guys develop the illusion that you've already won?"
"...When did you all get the illusion that I wasn't using the Phantom Book?"
As soon as Blackwood finished speaking, Lily and Polina instantly felt a sluggish sensation sweeping through their bodies.
