NBA: My template has no limit

Chapter 12, Training Session 2

Starting in 1995, the first phase of the NCAA's academic baseline rules officially came into effect. By August 1996, the baseline rules would be further upgraded, which meant higher requirements for the academic performance of college players.

The requirements at DePaul University are even stricter.

According to regulations, players must attend three hours of self-study every day on non-match days, except weekends, from 7:00 to 8:30 in the morning and from 12:00 to 13:30 in the afternoon.

We attend regular classes in the morning, and from 7 pm to 10 pm we have to do homework and complete group learning tasks. Even in the competition hotel, we have to study for one to two hours.

All of this learning will also be supervised by the team manager and academic advisor.

During their university years, their primary identity is that of university students, and only then do they become players.

Xu Feng studied business administration, one of DePaul's top majors. If he doesn't achieve results in basketball, he will return to China and follow in his father's footsteps.

As they walked to the classroom, the two chatted casually.

"Do you know what Watts has been up to lately?" Singh finally asked a question that Xu Feng was concerned about.

"I don't know, how is he doing now?"

"He's disabled; he can barely walk. Do you have a grudge against him?"

"Maybe... you could say that."

Upon hearing Xu Feng's answer, Singh immediately leaned closer, looking all gossipy.

Then it was pushed away again.

"Damn, yesterday I went to visit the girls' dormitory and passed by his door. Do you know what that guy was doing?" Without even waiting for Xu Feng to answer, Singh continued, his voice rising eight octaves.

"He was actually watching your match! I've never seen such an infatuated expression on his face before, and he was even mimicking your moves!"

If I hadn't seen him embracing a woman while checking into a hotel, I would have suspected he was gay!

Basketball fanatic Watts? Is this even possible?

Xu Feng was also dumbfounded. Could it be that his words had actually enlightened him, and now he was in the ward for enlightenment?

Forget it, let it be. If I can't beat someone who can't even make it to the NBA even with the system's help, then I might as well start over.

"No doubt about it, he is indeed gay, but don't worry, my sexual orientation is normal."

"Um?!"

The two walked into the classroom, pushed open the door, and saw their teammates and coach inside. Xu Feng sensed that something was off.

It's too quiet.

Why are they staring at me with their big, bright eyes?

"Ahem, hello everyone!" The mature Xu Feng knew how to break the ice.

Still, all was silent...

Are these people crazy? Xu Feng couldn't stand it anymore, so he went to his seat, opened his book, and started reading. Singh followed closely behind, looking completely bewildered.

At this moment, Brian stood up, walked straight to the podium, and turned on the television in the corner.

"This is ESPN's SportsCenter. Before we announce the NBA scores, let's take a look at some historic moments from yesterday's NCAA games."

"On the first day of the CUSA league, DePaul achieved a resounding victory over Louisville on the road, with star forward Xu Feng recording a massive triple-double of 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists—DePaul's first-ever triple-double!"

"It is understood that this is Xu Feng's second game since being promoted to the starting lineup."

The television played a loop of Xu Feng's performance, the silence in the stadium, and the disappointed expressions of the Louisville Cardinals players during their interviews.

"Xu Feng, you're on the front page! You're on the front page! This is an ESPN report!" Singh snapped out of his daze and shouted excitedly at Xu Feng.

It has a higher priority than NBA score broadcasts!

"To be specific, you've made headlines on ESPN, the Associated Press, Chicago, Louisville, and countless other sports news outlets. Sports Illustrated is even planning to dedicate a special section to you," Joey finally began.

Xu Feng then came to his senses and realized why so many people were asking him for autographs.

I think I've really become famous!

"Most importantly, you are the first person in DePaul's history to achieve a triple-double! Congratulations, Xu Feng!"

Loud applause echoed in the classroom, surrounding Xu Feng and carrying everyone's sincere blessings.

"Let's keep going and take that damn victory!"

……

Xu Feng had already finished a semester's worth of material during his injury break in the first half of the year, so he just coasted through class and would head back to the basketball court as soon as class was over.

The joy of success can wash away all negative emotions, and Xu Feng, having tasted the fruits of victory, is even more eager to become stronger.

Swish! Swish! Swish! ...

The system's purpose is to ensure you never engage in ineffective training again. As long as you follow the tasks, your ability score will increase, and your hit rate will definitely improve.

Hollow corner three-pointer: 249/250

Swish!

With a crisp swish as the ball swished through the net, Xu Feng completed his shooting task, and the system notification sounded instantly.

"Congratulations on completing the first stage of McGrady's shooting training! Your ability has been automatically improved!"

You can choose the next learning content.

What are the next phase of the mission?

Having tasted success, Xu Feng wanted to continue learning three-point shooting, as becoming an expert in a single area would be quite impressive.

"Three-point training phase two (50 to 60 points): 1. Receiving the ball and making 20,000 three-pointers."

2. Dribbling three-pointers a thousand times

3. Three out of 15,000 units under counter-interference.

The moment Xu Feng saw the task details, he abandoned his plans to study at this stage.

Forty-five thousand three-pointers! Assuming you make five hundred a day, it would take three months. Even with a month of accelerated training, it would still take two and a half months.

This task is way too difficult!

At this stage, Xu Feng doesn't have enough time to polish the three-point design, so he has to give up for now.

Having given up on improving his three-point shooting, Xu Feng turned his attention to McGrady's other abilities.

McGrady (during his time with the Rockets):

High ball possession: 88 (65)

High position without the ball: 62 (55)

High-level organization: 90 (75)

Steals: 77 (60)

Positions: 40 (50)

……

Note: The scores in parentheses are the top scores for that category within the NCAA evaluation system. All system scores are based on the NBA standard percentage system.

The system listed all of McGrady's data in great detail. Looking at McGrady's abilities, Xu Feng felt an increased pressure.

There's still so much to learn!

Ignoring McGrady's defensive skills, college basketball can rely on talent for defense, and besides, McGrady's defensive rating wasn't particularly high, and some of his defensive ratings weren't even top-tier in the NCAA.

McGrady made his name with his defense during his time with the Raptors, but after joining the Rockets, due to the change in his role and injuries, McGrady's defensive motivation and ability both declined significantly, and he could only be considered an average defender.

Finally, Xu Feng chose a seemingly insignificant but deadly ability: the ability to post up and play one-on-one in the low post.

Low post back-to-the-basket moves: 72 (60)

McGrady's low post-up rating is mainly due to a lack of passing and footwork, as well as a lack of strength caused by a back injury, but his scoring ability is absolutely unquestionable.

Xu Feng mainly wanted to learn that turnaround jump shot.

"Low post offense (32 to 55) Mid-range shooting (42 to 55): "

1. Low post ball receiving and stabilizing: 8000 times

2. Left and right non-contact turnaround jump shot: 12000 times

3. Turnaround jump shot with slight contact: 5000 times

4. Real-world rhythm singles: 3000 times

The task was similar to what Xu Feng had guessed, but the result far exceeded his expectations.

Xu Feng guessed that his ability to reach the top level of post-up play in the NCAA league in one step, and to significantly improve his mid-range shooting, was related to his physical talent.

This training task can no longer be done alone, but that's not a big deal.

Universities that make it into the NCAA typically hire assistant coaches and practice partners for their teams to help players retrieve balls or assist with training.

"Jack, please help me with this training task, thank you."

Xu Feng called out to the freckled young man who was shooting three-pointers and asked him to help him with his training.

"No need to be so polite, it's my honor to train with a big star." Jack took off his jacket, revealing his training clothes, and joked with Xu Feng.

At this point, Jack had no idea what level of training he was about to face.

Three hours later, Jack, covered in sweat, with a vacant look in his eyes, slumped weakly on the sidelines.

"Hey Tony, could you help me with a simple training task?"

"Hey, Joan, I have a little training task that I need your help with."

At 8 p.m., apart from Xu Feng, no one else in the stadium was able to stand up.

"Is this guy a magical beast? Why does he have inexhaustible stamina?"

"I...I don't know, I'm completely drained, damn it! My girlfriend's going to yell at me again tonight!"

"It's okay, don't make up these lame excuses, your brothers understand you."

Training continues, and since no one is training with him, Xu Feng practices his turnaround jump shot by himself.

The recovery body provided by the system is truly miraculous. Xu Feng doesn't feel tired at all, and his body doesn't experience any strain from excessive practice.

This thing would be considered at least a legendary buff in online games. Unfortunately, it only lasts for a month, so Xu Feng needs to hurry.

At that moment, the stadium door was pushed open, and Tome walked in.

The afternoon is for team training, while the evening is for individual time; usually, no one comes to the stadium.

"I heard you've been refusing to attend Singh's silver parties, so you're having your own party here. Want to join me? I'm available for anything, from casual conversation to full-service."

Xu Feng smiled at Tuomei.

"Of course, it's the full set. I hope you can withstand my intensity, bro."
