Meanwhile, thousands of miles away from Baseron, on the border of the Demi-human Federation.

A clear stream shimmered in the sunlight, meandering through a patch of low bushes. The water was shallow, reaching only up to an adult's knees at its deepest point, and the pebbles on the riverbed were clearly visible. Occasionally, a few small silver fish would dart through the crevices between the stones.

A kobold squatted by the river, holding a gleaming dagger, intently processing a wild rabbit he had just caught. The rabbit skin had been completely removed and was being laid out to dry on a nearby tree branch, while the rabbit meat was cut into neat chunks and piled on a large, washed leaf.

He wore a coarse cloth jacket with countless patches, and his exposed arms were covered with scars of varying depths, clearly indicating that he was someone who spent most of his time making a living away from home. A slightly rusty short sword hung at his waist, and a small cloth bag, bulging and full, was attached to the scabbard; it probably contained the game he had hunted that day.

"I'm in luck today," the kobold muttered to himself, skewering pieces of rabbit meat onto sharpened branches and roasting them over the newly lit fire.

The rabbit meat sizzled under the flames, oil seeping from the surface and dripping onto the embers, sending up a wisp of white smoke. The kobold took a deep breath, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

Just then, a rustling sound came from behind the bushes.

The kobold suddenly became alert, his right hand quickly gripping the hilt of the short sword at his waist, his ears twitching slightly in the air, catching every subtle sound.

Footsteps. Not from wild animals, but from humans.

The kobold squinted, staring at the gap in the bushes. A moment later, an elderly man with white hair, dressed in a brown robe, emerged from behind the bushes.

Dante looked somewhat disheveled.

His once spotless brown robe was now stained with mud and grass, with several tears at the hem from bushes. His white hair was disheveled, with a few withered leaves and small twigs stuck in it. His face showed obvious fatigue, his eyes were sunken, and his lips were chapped, but his eyes were still as sharp as a hawk's.

He held a golden greatsword in his hand, its blade stained with dried, blackened blood—the blood of an evil god.

The kobold's pupils contracted sharply the moment he saw Dante.

It wasn't out of fear, but out of greed.

He noticed the texture of Dante's brown robe—it was made of some precious fabric he had never seen before, shimmering softly in the sunlight, the silver thread embroidery on it still exquisite even covered in dirt. The cloth bag hanging at his waist, though its contents were unclear, was clearly not cheap, judging from its heavy drape. Most importantly, the three magic crystals embedded in the hilt of his golden greatsword were visibly glowing even from this distance.

The kobold's Adam's apple bobbed, and a fierce glint flashed in his eyes.

In this desolate wilderness, a well-dressed, solitary old man is practically easy prey. Even if he's carrying valuables, how much fighting power could an old man who can barely walk possibly have?

The kobold loosened his grip on the short sword and quietly unfastened the crossbow from his waist.

This was a good weapon he had bought at a high price on the black market. Although its range wasn't long, its power at close range was enough to penetrate ordinary leather armor. He nocked the bolt, slowly raised it, and aimed it at Dante's back.

Then he stood up.

"Halt!" the kobold roared, his crossbow pointed steadily at Dante. "Hand over all your valuables! Put down your sword, take off your bag, and remove your robe! Now!"

Dante stopped and turned around to look at the kobold holding a crossbow.

His expression remained unchanged, showing neither fear nor anger; he simply gazed at the other person calmly, as if looking at a tree or a stone.

The kobold felt a chill run down his spine under his gaze, but quickly suppressed his unease. What was there to fear from a dying man?

"Are you deaf? I told you to put down your weapon!" the kobold roared again, his finger on the trigger, applying slight pressure.

Dante spoke, his voice hoarse yet calm: "Where is this place?"

The kobold was taken aback, clearly not expecting the question. He looked Dante up and down warily and asked, "Why are you asking this?"

"I want to know," Dante said, his tone remaining calm.

The kobold hesitated for a moment, then decided it wouldn't hurt to tell him. The old man was going to die soon anyway, so what difference would it make if he knew where he was?

"Near Miguang City." The kobold gestured northwest. "It's about a half-day's journey if you follow this river upstream."

"Radiant City..." Dante repeated softly, then nodded. "Radiant City of the Demi-Human Federation?"

"Otherwise, which other City of Light?" the kobold said impatiently. "Are you done asking? If you are, hand over the goods now, or I'll have to take action!"

Dante glanced at him, then looked down at the greatsword in his hand. He sighed softly, and the golden blade suddenly turned into a shower of light and dust, dissipating into the air as if it had never existed.

The kobold stared wide-eyed, not yet realizing what was happening, when he saw the white-haired old man raise his right hand, palm down, fingers slightly bent.

An invisible force suddenly pressed down on him, like a mountain crashing down on his head. The kobold's knees buckled instantly, and he collapsed to his knees, the crossbow bolt flying from his hand and landing in the nearby grass. He tried desperately to stand up, his hands bracing against the ground, but the force was too great, pressing him down so hard he couldn't even lift his head, only hearing the creaking of his bones.

"Spare...spare my life..." the kobold managed to utter, his voice trembling with fear.

Dante did not kill him.

The power vanished in the next second, and the kobold collapsed to the ground, panting heavily, his body drenched in cold sweat.

"I didn't mean to hurt you," Dante's voice came from above. "Tell me, which way is the City of Light?"

The kobold cautiously raised his hand and pointed northwest: "Follow...follow the river, cross a fork in the road, turn left...walk a little further and you'll see the city walls..."

Dante nodded and turned to walk in that direction.

After taking a few steps, he stopped again, tilted his head slightly, and said, "Don't do this kind of thing again. Not everyone will show mercy like I do."

After saying that, he left without looking back, leaving the dog-headed man slumped on the ground.

The kobold stared blankly as Dante's figure disappeared behind the bushes, taking a long time to recover. He looked down at his soaked trousers, then at the still-burning campfire and the half-roasted rabbit beside him, and couldn't help but shiver.

He vowed that he would never dare to rob an elderly person passing by again.
