130. The Remnant King of Khanla Khan
Standing at the edge of the platform, Shared found himself in a dilemma.
He had assumed the platform only contained ordinary skeletons, but little did he know there was a leader sitting there.
Ordinary skeleton soldiers are not hostile to them, but this skeleton emperor may be.
Just then, several exclamations came from behind.
Shared quickly turned around and saw that the stairwell they had come up to was blocked by several skeleton soldiers, their weapons pointed directly at them, seemingly trying to force them to pass.
"My lord, should we fight our way out? It seems they're not going to let us go." Uru whispered close to Sharred's ear, afraid the skeletons would hear.
Xia Leide shook his head. In his opinion, as long as the other party did not show obvious hostility, they should not use force. In the ninth level, where knowledge is limited, force is always the worst option.
"Let's move forward and see if we can negotiate with that guy," Sharred said, lifting his foot towards the throne.
As the group approached, the Skeleton Emperor appeared increasingly larger and more imposing in their eyes.
Soon, the procession stopped about ten paces in front of the throne.
Sharred finally saw every detail of the skeletal emperor.
The throne was also made of black magic rock, with intricate patterns carved on the back. The skeleton emperor was completely gray and motionless, as if he were also a magic rock statue.
Sharred cleared his throat. "Excuse me, could you please let us leave?"
no respond.
The Skeleton Emperor remained motionless, his empty eye sockets seemingly seeing nothing, yet also seemingly watching everyone.
Before Shared could ask a second question, the skeleton soldiers on both sides began to move.
The spears in their hands changed from being held vertically to horizontally, with the tips pointing at the crowd and slowly approaching.
"That's it! They're going to make their move!" Uru's voice was tense and excited. Although he didn't want to fight these skeletons, he was really frustrated by being so timid.
At Uru's urging, the others couldn't help but draw their weapons in self-defense, but Shared suddenly shouted, "Kneel down! Everyone kneel down!"
Everyone was stunned.
"Kneel down!" Shared shouted again, his voice even louder than before. "All of you, kneel down! Like Tina! Foreheads to the ground! Now!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than Sharred knelt down first.
His knees slammed heavily onto the magic rock floor with a dull thud, and then he collapsed to the ground, his forehead pressed against the cold black stone slab, his hands on the ground.
The next second, Tina also knelt down, her movements practiced and swift, her long, dark purple hair cascading down to the ground like a waterfall.
Seeing this, the others followed suit and knelt down in unison.
Surprisingly, this tactic worked. After everyone knelt down, the skeleton soldiers stopped, put away their weapons, and returned to their original positions.
Sharred then slightly raised his head and glanced around out of the corner of his eye.
Seeing that the skeleton soldiers had retreated to their original positions, he let out a long breath, his voice tinged with pride.
"Gentlemen, I think I know the identity of this Skeleton Emperor."
"Have you noticed the layout of this castle? You'd be lucky to know; it's almost identical to the Mirun Castle of the Kanla Khanate from two thousand years ago, as recorded in historical texts."
"The king at that time had established a rule that those who came to pay homage to the king must kneel before him and may not rise without permission."
"But what if you guess wrong?" Uru asked, somewhat displeased.
"If there's real danger, you'll all take up arms and fight back without me having to tell you," Shared replied, then muttered to himself:
"Why would a king who died two thousand years ago appear here? Or why would his habits be replicated on this skeleton?"
"Alright, alright, what do we do now? Those skeletons are still blocking our way. Are we just going to kneel here until they let us up?" Uru said, glancing behind him.
After thinking for a moment, Shared uttered a single word: "Offering."
"Historical records state that those who fail to pay homage to the emperor can use tribute to offset their impolite behavior. I'll give it a try."
Shared carefully took the backpack off his shoulder, reached inside and rummaged around for a while before pulling out the ring with the fluorite inlaid in it.
This ring was specially made for him and is the most valuable thing he owns right now.
Sharred held the ring in his palms, cradling it with both hands and raising it above his head.
A few seconds later, one of the skeleton soldiers beneath the throne moved.
The bones rubbed against each other as they moved, making a clicking sound. It walked step by step to Sharred, bent down, and reached out its skeletal hand to take the ring from his palm.
The skeleton soldier carried the ring back to the throne and presented the fluorite ring to the skeleton emperor.
The Skeleton Emperor raised his skeletal hand and took the ring.
Its finger bones gripped the small ring, then suddenly tightened.
With a crisp "crack," the fluorite ring was crushed, and fluorite fragments and twisted iron rings fell from between the bones, landing on the magic rock floor with a soft rustling sound.
The Skeleton Emperor then resumed his previous sitting posture, as if nothing had happened.
Seeing this, many people in the group became nervous.
"My sword is engraved with the Swift Wind rune. It cost me eighty gold coins back then. I wonder if it will work?"
A mithril-class adventurer asked, reaching for the scabbard hanging on his back.
"No need. It didn't even look at it before taking it and breaking it. Offering it as a sacrifice probably won't work."
Shared stopped the man, his expression somewhat unpleasant, and began to ponder the historical records about Khanla Khan that he had read.
Norn wasn't idle either. He had just tried to transfer the brain to the Skeleton Emperor, but as you can imagine, the skeleton didn't have a brain at all, so it was completely incompatible!
Time passed slowly, and Shared couldn't utter another fart for a long time. Soon, someone couldn't hold it in any longer and stood up.
"Arno! What are you doing?! Kneel down right now!"
Arno, who had been obediently following Norn's orders, suddenly stood up and slowly walked towards the skeleton emperor sitting on the throne.
Everyone thought he couldn't hold back any longer and was about to run away, but instead of running away, he walked towards the throne. What does that mean?
Norn quickly tried to switch his attention, but was unusually rejected by Arno!
"What are you doing, Arnold? Can't you listen to me now? Let me control you!"
Norn shouted to Arno in his mind, which made it hesitate for a moment, but then it continued walking.
"Listen to me! I'll buy you whatever you want to eat when we get back!"
Upon hearing this, Arno agreed, and Norn's consciousness instantly took over Arno's body.
An ethereal voice automatically formed in Norn's mind and echoed continuously:
"Aino...Lobe...How did you get here...Me? I'm here too?... "
