143. Python
The fourth level of the Howling Dungeon, in the Stone Bone Forest.
Several adventurers were holding jars and applying something to a person wearing thorn armor.
His dark armor was covered with dense iron spikes, making him look like a sea urchin.
Soon, the "sea urchin" was covered in a thick, orange-brown slurry.
"Brother, does this really work?" a young kobold asked.
"Absolutely no problem, you all stay away and wait to see the show."
After finishing his sentence, the sea urchin man took a single-edged sword and a bulging leather bag from his teammate and walked alone to a cave.
The liquid applied to his body was oil extracted from the seeds of a carnivorous plant. This oil was slightly toxic and tasted bitter, but it was an excellent attraction for the pythons that lived in the Stone Bone Forest.
A few minutes later, a huge one-eyed snake head emerged from the cave entrance.
The sea urchin man swallowed hard. This level of monster was quite troublesome for someone like him who had just entered the Gold level, but he had to take this step in order to pass the test.
The python twitched its nostrils, confirming that the fragrance was coming from the strange creature in front of it. Without thinking, it opened its huge mouth and swallowed the sea urchin man whole.
The fleshy walls around the sea urchin man tightly enveloped him, leaving no space at all.
He struggled to lift the leather bag and put it in his mouth to inhale. The spikes of his armor sank deep into his flesh, slowly drawing bloody marks as the python swallowed.
"There's hope! There's hope!" The sea urchin man was overjoyed to see himself stuck inside.
He pulled out his right hand and reached deep into his esophagus, grasping the folds of flesh as he moved his body.
The python suddenly felt excruciating pain in its esophagus. Its entire body writhed violently as if it had been electrocuted, and it kept gagging, but could only cough up blood.
The sea urchin man continued to crawl in as the esophagus widened, its iron spikes and single-edged sword tearing its entire belly into a bloody mess.
He kept his eyes tightly shut and struggled inside the snake's belly for an unknown amount of time, when suddenly he heard his teammates' voices outside:
"Big brother! Come out! The python is dead!"
Upon hearing this, the sea urchin man struggled to crawl back, emerging from the snake's mouth covered in blood. Seeing the motionless python, he didn't bother wiping the blood from his face, and burst into laughter:
"Hahaha! I told you it would work!"
"That's amazing, bro! This armor only cost you two gold coins, but this python is worth 30 gold coins!"
"Stop flattering me, hurry up and deal with the body, I need to rest."
The group went to gut the python with great enthusiasm, while the sea urchin man took off his heavy armor and sat to the side eating dry rations.
Just then, a rustling sound came from the bushes behind them, and a black hand reached out and quickly snatched the dried meat from the sea urchin man's hand.
"Hmm?" The sea urchin man looked down at his empty hands, then turned his head and met the eyes of a rusty ghost mask.
"A monster! There's a monster!" The sea urchin man jumped up in fright, picking up the single-edged sword beside him to protect himself.
The shouts attracted the attention of the others who were busy at work, and all eyes were focused on the tall figure in the woods.
This monster had a hideous mask on its face, a sharp horn on its forehead, and wore a messy outfit made of leaves, weeds, and animal sinews. It didn't look like a monster, but it looked even less like a human.
Just as everyone was wondering, two more figures appeared beside the monster.
"Finally, we've seen some living people. There are quite a few people on the fourth floor," Norn said.
After leaving the ninth floor, Norn and his group lingered on the eighth floor for a long time because they had no map and also needed to solve the food problem. It wasn't until the seventh floor that Shared managed to find his way around a little.
The sea urchin man saw the two ragged, haggard-looking men and knew they weren't monsters, but he didn't let his guard down.
"Are you adventurers?" someone asked.
After Shared stepped forward and briefly introduced their origins, the sea urchin men finally relaxed.
The Duke's son came to Desert Village and issued an S-rank mission to the ninth level; this was common knowledge.
However, after Uru and the others returned to the ground, the news of Shared's death had already spread. The guild leader has been anxious about this ever since, and has been unable to send out Shared's obituary even after several days of consideration.
"Could you please give us some food?" Shared asked.
The sea urchin man couldn't afford to be negligent; if he could use these dried rations to gain the duke's son's favor, that would be a huge win!
"We only have dried meat and dark bread. You don't mind, do you?"
The sea urchin man quickly took out some dry rations from his backpack and offered them to Shared ingratiatingly.
"How could we complain? We haven't even eaten as well as this these past few days." Shared took the food, bowed slightly to them, and then shared some with Norn and the others.
Unlike the Decaying River, there are hardly any edible monsters in the entire Deep Zone; they are either poisonous or have never been eaten before.
Unlike the Rotten River Underground City, which has delicacies like mud-eating beasts and monstrous octopuses, Norn always wondered if this was also related to Ainor's desires.
Along the way, they could only replenish their energy by chewing dry gruel.
Shared and his men sat on the ground, wolfing down their food. The sea urchin man approached them obsequiously with a water bottle, saying, "Sir, have some water."
Shared took the drink and drank a large gulp, then handed it to Norn. By the time it returned to the sea urchin man, there wasn't a drop left.
"Sir, you've really worried that chairman a lot. He's still revising the letter about your death!"
"I understand. I'll go see him as soon as I get back."
"Oh, by the way, sir, my name is..."
The sea urchin man chatted casually, trying to win over Sharred, but judging from Sharred's expression, he was clearly annoyed.
"Are you hunting a python?" Norn asked suddenly, seeing the snake carcass that had been completely cut open in the distance.
Upon hearing this, the sea urchin man puffed out his chest. "That's right! I killed it with that armor!"
As he spoke, the sea urchin man pointed to the iron spiked armor on the ground and then vividly described his snake-killing tactics.
Unexpectedly, Sharred's face showed disdain after hearing this, "You were lucky. If you had ruptured the venom sac inside its body, you would have been the one to die."
The sea urchin man replied somewhat awkwardly, "That's right, that's right, I was just lucky."
"Moreover, you're covering your entire body with oil extracted from the seeds of carnivorous plants. That's far too expensive. Even if the python is very valuable, after deducting the cost and splitting it with your team members, you won't make much money at all."
"Making money isn't the problem! The important thing is the title of independently solving an A-level mission!" The sea urchin man's voice became louder.
"A very skilled adventurer is forming a team, and this monstrous python is my pledge of allegiance! Once I join, any A-rank mission will be a piece of cake!"
"That powerful? Who is that person? Why didn't he show up when I issued the S-rank mission?"
"He's here, and he's already out. He's famous because he came back alive from an S-rank mission."
Sharred frowned, the face of that bastard Uru flashing into his mind.
But then he realized something was wrong. Uru already had so many blood crystals; there was no need for him to continue being an adventurer.
"who is he?"
"Him? He's Hohmann."
