No sane person would issue a mission to assassinate a duke's son.
Even if the assassin is skilled enough to threaten the target's safety, the target can use money to make the assassin switch sides, and in the end, the employer will be the one in danger.
But dark mages are different; their power is beyond question. Uru heard that Belgreid was turned by several dark mages, and even the duke's corpse was hung on the city wall.
As for loyalty, the reward I give them isn't gold coins, but blood crystals that money can't buy! Even if Sharred is incredibly wealthy, he couldn't possibly produce more blood crystals than that.
Uru thought so, but the other party's decisive reply still astonished him.
"Okay, we'll kill them for you. Keep these two blood crystals for yourself. We'll come back for them when we've finished the mission."
Farai gave his answer almost the instant Uru finished stating his conditions, as if the assassination target was some nobody.
"Did you hear me clearly? I was talking about the Duke..."
"No need to emphasize it, these ten blood crystals are ours." After Fala finished speaking, a man in a black robe took two crystals out of his backpack and handed them to Uru, then put the backpack on the carriage.
The kobolds also sprang into action, moving boxes of gold coins from the wagons onto the trailers.
The transaction was over, and Falai and the others disappeared into the forest. The kobold grinned as he pulled out most of the gold coins from the wooden crate.
"This is the agreed-upon referral fee; the rest is yours!"
Uru looked at the gold coins that had been taken away with a sense of loss, but when he saw his two trailers full of money boxes, he instantly became excited again.
"Screw it! I'm going to have a blast tonight!"

In the largest room of the inn "Adventurer's Village," Sharred lay on his side on the bed, propping his head up with one hand and flipping through a book with the other.
Norn was also reading a book on the other side of the room, but unlike the historical texts that Sharred was reading, he was reading novels that were more popular in this world.
The novel's plot was nothing more than the same old story of a hero fighting a dragon, which made Norn a little sleepy, but there was nothing else to entertain him at the moment.
Sharred had run away without any belongings except for money and servants. To prevent Uru from launching a night attack, Sharred had Norn and the others live with him to protect him at all times.
Compared to Norn's boredom, Arno should be quite happy to stay with this book-loving young master, because Shared had someone buy plenty of food for him to enjoy.
Arnold was wearing a brand-new, loose robe, his iron mask had been removed, and various kinds of meat were laid out in front of him, which he was enjoying immensely.
"I'm telling you, if you're worried that Uru and his gang will come and silence us, why don't you just let me go find them? Why are you just sitting here waiting for them to come to you?" Norn asked, closing his boring novel.
"You don't need to find them. I've already had the guild handle it. I'm only safe as long as you stay by my side."
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Shared shifted his position and said, "Before you teach Uru a lesson, go and deal with them first."
The door was pushed open, and a man and a woman were thrown in; they were arrested by the city guards.
After throwing the man in, he clapped his hands and stood outside the door waiting. He wouldn't come in without Sharred's permission.
Norn immediately recognized the two people who had been captured: Chloe and Daisy.
Shared glanced at the two men and asked the person outside the door, "Where's the last one? Didn't you bring Mur?"
"I heard from the guild that Mur has already accepted the quest and entered the dungeon."
"I see. Thank you for your hard work. Now you can go."
The person responded softly, closed the door, and left.
Upon seeing Norn, Chloe, who was on the ground, immediately scrambled to her feet and knelt down.
"Homan, I'm sorry. It's normal for you to hate me, but our feud has nothing to do with Daisy! If you want to punish someone, punish me! Let her go!"
Daisy burst into tears and knelt down, begging Norn to spare her husband.
"He's in your hands now," Sharred said, then continued reading.
The moment Norn saw Chloe, the scene of being betrayed flashed through his mind.
Norn vividly remembers the despair of reaching into his pocket and finding it empty. At that time, he wanted nothing more than to rush forward and tear Chroa to pieces, but now that the man was right in front of him, Norn decided against it.
It wasn't because of some damned saintly heart; Norn's anger hadn't diminished at all. He just felt that simply killing him wasn't a commensurate punishment.
Norn must make Chloe experience firsthand what it feels like to be betrayed.
Seeing the pile of broken bones on Arno's table, Norn had an idea.
Koroya and Daisy watched nervously as Norn approached with several wooden cups and a pile of leftover bones.
"Turn around, everyone! Don't look! Anyone who peeks will have their head blown off!"
After Norn finished speaking, the two quickly turned around, their hearts pounding in their throats. Neither of them knew what Norn was up to.
After the noise behind them subsided, Norn said they could turn around.
The two turned their heads and looked in confusion at the pile of upside-down wooden cups on the ground.
"Let's play a game, and I'll let you go after we're done," Norn said coldly.
The couple looked at each other, their voices trembling, and asked, "What game?"
"Each of you has ten cups in front of you, and six of them contain bones."
"I will have you take turns deciding whether to lift your own cup or the other person's cup. If the person whose cup is lifted has a bone in it, then that person has to choose to give up a part of themselves."
"You have five options for choosing body parts: limbs, head, etc. These are the rules of the game. Do you understand?"
After Norn finished speaking, he gave the two of them some time to process what he had said. Shared, who was lying in bed reading, also became interested and glanced at the two of them.
"How many rounds does this game need to go through?" Chloe asked.
"Six wheels."
Six wheels...
In other words, if someone flips another person's cup six times, that person will inevitably lose two body parts.
The best outcome would be for each person to take three turns, which would make it possible to pass without taking any damage.
"Hohman, for the sake of our past relationship, please don't do something so cruel, okay?"
Daisy pleaded, pulling down her collar as she spoke, burying her body to reveal her ample cleavage, attempting to seduce Norn.
"What relationship do I have with you? You either play this game or you die now. Choose now." Norn remained unmoved.
"I understand, Homan brothers, let's begin the game." Chloe calmed down and turned to Daisy, who was crying her eyes out. "It's okay, at worst I'll just break both my legs."
"Alright, let's begin the game. You'll start," Norn said, looking at Chorya.
