56. Madness Reappears
The arrows struck the barrier, some chipping and others breaking, falling to the ground with a rustling sound, piling up in a thick heap.
"Draw your swords! All of you, draw your swords! Charge at her and kill her!"
Seeing that the arrows could not break through the defenses, the rebels drew their swords and charged down the stairs in a huge swarm.
Louisa's staff glowed brightly red, and a huge crimson magic circle gradually appeared above her head.
A blinding light shone in the center of the magic circle, and a large fireball quickly took shape. After breaking free from the magic circle, it twisted and rushed towards the rebels.
The rebels at the front couldn't dodge in time and plunged headfirst into the fireball. When they emerged, they were charred, burning humanoid figures.
The fireball continued to move upwards along the stairs, and some of the rebels quickly jumped down the stairs to escape.
After the fireball had circled the stairs once, most of the rebels were dead, and the thick smoke from the burning corpses filled the entire hall.
The thick smoke was kept out of Louisa's barrier, and fireballs of light kept flashing within the billowing smoke.
"I shouldn't have used this magic; I can't see what's inside at all." Louisa could only control the fireball's movement by feeling.
As a rebel was tumbling down the stairs, his right foot was grazed by a fireball. Watching his foot being engulfed by flames, he hardened his heart, raised his knife, and cut it off. Then he limped back up the stairs.
Using the thick smoke from the burning corpses as cover, he covered his mouth and nose, crushing the charred bodies as he struggled upwards. Just when he was about to escape, he suddenly felt a burning sensation behind him.
Bang!
With a muffled explosion, the fireball that was about to engulf the rebels vanished instantly.
The rebel's eyes were so thick with smoke that he could only open them a tiny slit. Through his blurred vision, a dazzling red light gradually approached him. Once the red light completely enveloped him, the surrounding smoke was shut out.
The rebels, seeing the barrier, excitedly shouted, "Lord Dono is here!"
In the center of the smoke-filled hall, a violent explosion rang out, blasting away all the smoke and sending it rushing out of the passageway.
An unremarkable man stood on the charred second floor, surrounded by a red light barrier.
Protected by the red light barrier, several surviving rebels staggered to their feet, raising their hands and jumping excitedly: "Lord Dono!"
"Shut up!" Dono snapped. "Weren't you told to go take refuge? Why did you act on your own? Was it worth it to lose so many brothers?!"
"Sir, we just want to share your burdens."
"Screw you! You're just throwing your lives away! Get the hell out of here, I'll take care of this woman."
The rebels were overwhelmed with gratitude, trampled the charred corpses of their comrades who had blocked their path, and fled.
"You must be Louisa, the strongest magician in the Kingdom of Eton, right?" Dono asked condescendingly.
Louisa didn't want to say another word. A shard of ice shot at Dono at high speed, crashing into the red light barrier and shattering into ice shards.
"Judging by the power of your magic, I'll assume you are one."
As he spoke, Dono took out a blood crystal from the cloth bag at his waist, and only then did Louisa's eyes show a hint of seriousness.
The memory of being infected by the madness poison was still fresh in her mind, which made her wary of this dark sorcerer.
The blood crystal in Dono's hand burst out with red light, and a large cloud of blood-red smoke suddenly appeared behind him, gradually gathering into a dense blood cloud.
The next second, a large, bloodshot eye suddenly opened within the blood cloud.
Louisa was startled; this was exactly the same as the mad poison that the old man had released before.
She quickly raised her hand to cover her eyes, trying not to look at the bloodshot eye, but this black magic didn't seem to be triggered solely by sight. Even though Louisa had closed her eyes, the hideous eye still lingered in her mind.
Don't look at it! Don't think about it!
The more so, the clearer the vision becomes.
Immediately afterwards, Louisa felt a surge of anger that seemed to rise within her for no apparent reason.
"Ugh! Damn it! This feeling again, it's so annoying!"
Images of past murders flashed through her mind like a revolving lantern, and the thought of the gruesome state of those corpses sent a surge of intense pleasure through Louisa's mind.
Kill, kill, kill...
The desire to kill gradually intensified, and at the moment it reached its peak, all murderous intent vanished.
"Don't worry, Lady Louisa, with me here, the Mad Poison won't affect you."
As Falae spoke, the luster of the blood crystal in his hand gradually dimmed.
"Hahaha! Don't you all hate black magicians the most? Don't you consider black magicians heretics and want to kill them all without exception? How ugly!"
"Brother, join us! These people in the capital are using you. Once you've done your job, they'll kill you and burn you alive!"
The blood cloud behind Dona dissipated, and he smiled as he spoke to Fara.
Fala was not good with words and did not respond, but simply stood silently behind Louisa.
"Thank you, Falae." Louisa recovered from the madness, and various different magic circles of different sizes instantly appeared behind her.
Despite having Falai behind her for cover, she was still worried that Dona might possess other dark magic, and at that moment she just wanted to end the battle as quickly as possible.
"Heavenly Meteor Lightning", "Holy Light Impact", "Fireball"...
All sorts of spells were unleashed upon Dono, and the violent explosion collapsed the second floor, sending up a large amount of smoke and dust.
These attacks could be easily thwarted except for barrier spells of level six or higher. Under normal circumstances, Louisa would have already turned and left, but since her opponent was this dark mage, she decided to observe for a while longer.
boom!!!
A bolt of red lightning suddenly shot out from the smoke and struck the magic barrier in front of Louisa.
Dono emerged from the smoke, holding aloft the fist-sized blood crystal, with a continuous stream of lightning generating behind him, attacking Louisa at high speed.
"It turns out it's not that easy to deal with after all."
Louisa sighed as she looked at the short wand in her hand.
To avoid attracting attention, she had to keep her large staff made of living wood in the carriage, a graduation gift from the kingdom itself when she graduated from Tandinger College.
He was adept at casting spells with that staff, wasting very little magic power; he could unleash five seventh-tier spells in a row without even breaking a sweat.
However, using the miniature staff in her hand, she felt somewhat exhausted after casting those spells.
I'm still relying too much on that staff. I should try casting spells with my bare hands more often in the future.
"Lady Louisa! The barrier seems to have shattered!"
Fala's shout interrupted Louisa's thoughts, his pale index finger trembling as he pointed at the pale blue barrier in front of him.
Louisa noticed that spiderweb-like cracks had appeared on the surface, and they were continuing to expand.
"You bitch, is your shell so fragile? I'm only just getting started."
After speaking, Dono took out another blood crystal.
