9. Rock Dragon Lizard
"Norn, you dropped something."
As Angsk spoke, it picked up a hollow bamboo tube from the ground. Its pink nose twitched slightly, and the feline's keen sense of smell made it frown.
"Why does it smell so bad? What's this pipe for?"
Norn didn't explain, but quickly took the bamboo tube and inserted it back into the straps on both sides of his backpack.
He wouldn't tell them that this was his tool for urinating.
Ever since he handed over his second son to Angel, Norn has been urinating like a shotgun. In order to fix the trajectory of the bullets, he has no choice but to carry a bamboo tube with him as a gun barrel.
Unlike before in Basel, Norn now strongly resists others knowing that he lacks class, fearing they will laugh at him like the other sailors did.
Onsk didn't ask any more questions. It figured it had walked enough, so it decided to rest for a while.
Baron, carrying the heaviest load, brought out an iron pot, Priest Saroo gathered withered branches and leaves, and half-elf Eileen used fire magic to ignite them.
Onsk poured sausages, vegetables, and various other ingredients into the pot, and soon the aroma filled the air.
Onsk handed Norn a bowl of stew and a spoon, while he himself, lacking a left hand, picked up the wooden bowl and drank.
As the group was eating, a sound came from the bushes not far away.
Onske immediately became alert, put down the wooden bowl, and placed his right hand on the curved knife at his waist.
The bushes parted, and two men, one tall and one fat, emerged.
"Brother, don't be nervous, we're just adventurers passing by. Look, this is our prey we just caught," the fat man said, holding up the black wolf carcass on his shoulder.
"Our food was stolen by goblins, and now we're starving. Could you give us a bowl of soup?"
The tall man clasped his hands together in a pleading manner, swaying precariously as if he were about to collapse at any moment.
Onsk's reply was straightforward: "Get lost!"
"Don't be so cold. I won't eat your food for free. I'll give you money," the fat man said, taking out two silver coins.
Onsk remained defiant, suddenly drawing his scimitar and then casually revealing the "Mithril" badge hanging on his chest.
"What do I care if you starve to death? I told you to get the hell out of here! Take one more step and I'll kill you all!"
The two were frightened by Onsk and could only leave dejectedly.
"Let's eat quickly, those two will be back soon," Onsk said, handing the wooden bowl to Eileen.
Eileen took the wooden bowl, ladling soup as she muttered, "Onsk, aren't you being too sensitive? They might really be starving..."
The other two chimed in, their impressions of the tall man's sickly appearance leaving a deep impression on them.
Onsk glared at them: "You're all newbies, unaware of the treacherous nature of those in the Deep Dungeons. Even if there's a 99% chance they're true, I can't gamble on that 1%!"
After saying that, it raised the bowl to its mouth, about to drink, but then it noticed a dead worm floating on the yellowish-white soup.
"Stop eating, this soup is too much to eat."
Onsk pulled out the insect and showed it to everyone.
"Neva worm..." Priest Saroo recognized it at a glance.
This is a unique monster found only on the fifth level. Its body is highly poisonous; if the poison enters the body, it will cause the person to fall into an eternal sleep until they starve to death. Because this method of death is completely painless, it is also known as the Kiss of Death.
"Anything else to say, you guys?" Onsk threw away the insect and rubbed his fingers against the tree.
"..."
Eileen lowered her head, her two pointed ears drooping, while the other two scratched their heads awkwardly.
Even a blind man could see it clearly: those two weren't there to beg for food at all; they were just trying to attract attention so that the Neva worms could fly into the soup.
Onske kicked the iron pot over, spilling the half-pot of poisonous soup all over the ground.
"Let's leave the pot behind and keep going. Let's try to get back tomorrow."
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
Onske chose a side path, where the chances of encountering other adventurers were low, but the downside was that there were more monsters.
But monsters are cunning and relatively easy to deal with.
Led by Onsk, Norn and his group successfully reached the fifth floor.
From this floor onwards, Onsk and his companions became extremely cautious.
The monsters on the fourth floor can be easily dealt with as long as you stick together, while the monsters on the fifth floor are so dangerous that a moment's inattention can wipe out the entire party.
Eileen and her two companions were merely bronze-level adventurers. Just standing there made their hearts race and their breathing difficult, as if even the air itself was poisonous.
Norn could tell that they had wanted to quit several times, but no one dared to speak up because of Onsk's authority.
"Found it..." Onsk said softly.
Norn gently parted the grass and looked in the direction Onsk was pointing.
Beneath a gray cliff, a giant lizard with dark brown fur and bright purple spots lay curled up, resting.
Upon closer inspection, you'll discover that the purple bright spots are actually individual translucent magic crystals.
Saroo flipped through the strategy guide and found the description of this monster:
Rock Dragon Lizards are fond of magic and can use magic. Their bodies are covered in a layer of rock armor, and they possess immense strength. Adventurers below the Gold rank should not attempt to challenge them.
"We're going to fight the Rock Dragon Lizard?" Saroo muttered to himself.
Eileen and Baron also felt it was somewhat impossible. There were more than just dragon lizards among the demon-devouring monsters. If it were just a black wolf or a monster without a protective shell, Eileen and the others felt they had a chance of winning. But dealing with this dragon lizard covered in rock armor seemed like a pipe dream.
Unsk, however, was full of fighting spirit. It asked Norn, who was standing nearby, "Can you switch parts over now?"
Norn tried it and shook his head, saying, "We need to get closer."
"Okay, Eileen, Saroo, buff me," Onsk ordered.
The two dared not delay and took out their wands to cast a buff spell on Onsk.
"Charge with me!"
After saying that, Onsk bit the scimitar with his teeth and charged forward on all threes.
The rock dragon sensed the ground shaking and had barely opened its eyes when Onsk's sharp blade was already upon it.
clang!--
The scimitar struck the rock armor, creating a spark.
After Onsk attacked several times, the rock dragon finally reacted.
It suddenly turned around, and its thick, rocky tail lashed out at Onsk.
Unable to dodge in time, Onsk could only raise his arms to protect his body.
With just one strike, Onske was sent flying, crashing to the ground and plowing a shallow crater in the air with his momentum.
"Saro! Heal me!"
Onsk was writhing in pain; the blow had broken both of its arms, and if it hadn't protected its body in time, its internal organs would probably have been shattered.
"Onsk! Let's go back! We can't handle this monster!"
Saroo felt this disparity for the first time and tried to persuade him while treating him.
"Wait, it seems to have stopped moving..."
Eileen noticed that the rock dragon lizard, which had been moving nimbly just moments before, was now lying on the ground, unable to move, as if it had been frozen in place.
"Barron, come and carry me on your back, I can't get up."
Norn's voice came from behind them, and everyone turned around.
Norn lay on the ground, his backpack cushioning his fall. His sleeves and trouser legs were flattened, leaving only his torso.
