Full-Time Magister: The Ruler of Wind and Rain
Chapter 82 After the Rain Stopped
After sending the Black Vatican traitor back to the barrier, Wang Yu did not turn back to hunt demons. His magical energy was completely depleted. He had already exhausted himself once while escorting the students of Tianlan Magic High School, and after not resting for long, he went fishing with Mo Fan. Now he felt a little dizzy, which was a sign of excessive magical energy consumption and an unstable mental world.
After a quick internal examination, Wang Yu looked at his four magic departments, now completely exhausted, and felt a wave of weariness wash over him. He looked around but couldn't find a suitable spot, so he simply found a corner, set up a tarpaulin, crawled into his sleeping bag, and fell fast asleep.
Soon after, the Sky Eagle Mages arrived to provide assistance. Each Sky Eagle represented a mid-level military mage, and their snow-white feathers brought people endless hope.
Bo City already had a very limited number of mid-level mages. After excluding military mages, there were very few mid-level mages left, making them only capable of physically confronting the rampaging demons, especially the minor leaders at the warrior level.
But when the Skyhawk Mage Corps arrived, things changed. Their methods were simple and efficient: hunting down general-level demons roaming the city. The Skyhawk Mages, either in small groups or alone, hunted down the generals from high above the city.
Once the warrior-level demons are eliminated, the remaining servant-level demons will be unable to withstand the magical bombardment from the mages of Bo City.
Winged Wolf was ultimately no match for Zhan Kong. He abandoned the Earthly Sacred Spring, which he was determined to obtain, and his warrior underlings, and left unwillingly. Just then, the sun broke through the dark clouds and shone on the earth.
This land, baptized by the blood of humans and demons, finally showed a glimmer of warmth to humankind after being washed away by the last few drops of rain.
The mages hiding within the safety barrier, including many high school magic students, began to form small teams, gradually radiating outwards from the safety barrier to hunt down the demons throughout the entire city of Bo.
The entrances to the demons were gradually destroyed, and the demons were hunted down one by one. Gradually, the safe zones were connected, and the cleanup phase began.
But all of this was temporarily irrelevant to Wang Yu. When he woke up, he found himself seemingly lying in a military tent.
Turning around, this was probably Zhan Kong's temporary office? A coat with military epaulets was still hanging on the coat rack. But why was the unshaven Zhan Kong sitting across from the desk in his own territory, while the person in the main seat seemed to be a middle-aged man with black hair, a black beard, and a square face?
Still a little groggy from just waking up, Wang Yu struggled to sit up and rubbed his eyes. The black-haired, black-bearded man glanced at Wang Yu, then turned to Zhan Kong and said, "Little boy, you're awake. Zhan Kong, get him a glass of water."
The usually imposing Zhan Kong was now behaving like a docile big cat, silently handing Wang Yu a cup of hot water. Wang Yu took the cup, his mind a little dazed.
Just as Wang Yu was about to find the correct answer, a smile appeared on the square-faced man's serious face: "Let me introduce myself. My name is Hua Zhanhong, and I am Zhan Kong's teacher."
Holy crap, it really was him!
Hua Zhanhong, the leader of the Southern Army, a dual-system forbidden spell master, and a national protector master, each of these titles is awe-inspiring.
The difference in strength and rank among mages in this world is too great. There aren't many powerful figures who have been active for a long time in the original work, but this one is different. This forbidden spell mage is truly strong from beginning to end, and his character is also worthy of respect.
"Commander Hua, my name is Wang Yu, and I am currently a student in the preparatory class of Mingzhu Academy." Wang Yu stood up, tidied his appearance, and greeted him respectfully.
Hua Zhanhong: "Wang Yu, you've only been sleeping for three days. Come over and have something to eat to tide you over. We can chat while we eat."
Upon hearing this, Wang Yu realized that his stomach was empty. Without being polite to the big shot, he decided to fill his stomach since the forbidden spell level big shot was offering him food.
After wolfing down a few pastries and gulping down two cups of tea while sitting next to Zhan Kong, Wang Yu looked up and said, "Commander Hua, I'm full. Shall we begin?"
"Alright." Hua Zhanhong's expression turned serious. "First of all, Wang Yu, a mid-level mage, on behalf of the Southern Military Region, I would like to commend you for your heroic actions in this incident. You led more than two thousand teachers and students from a magic high school through a ten-kilometer dead zone during the beast tide attack on the city, with only single-digit casualties among teachers and students, preserving a large number of living forces for the future of Bo City. After deliberation and unanimous approval by the Southern Military Command Joint Meeting, you are awarded the Bo City Hero Medal and awarded a first-class merit. Considering that you are not a military mage, the first-class merit reward will be converted into resources and cash, which will be issued to you together with the medal later."
"Ah...oh, thank you...thank you, Commander Hua!" Wang Yu was so excited that he was incoherent when he suddenly heard that he had made a contribution.
Zhan Kong, standing beside him, frowned and patted Wang Yu on the shoulder, saying, "How can you speak to the military commander like that! Even if you don't say it's what I should do, you should at least thank the military commander for his guidance..."
"Don't listen to him," Hua Zhanhong said to Wang Yu. "This kid has been in the army for ten years and has never received a first-class merit award. He's just jealous. Okay, now that the first thing is over, Zhan Kong, go and close the doors and windows."
Close the doors and windows? What's going on? Wang Yu saw Zhan Feng quickly close the doors and windows, and even put down an extra layer of blackout panels behind the windows, instantly plunging the tent into darkness.
But the pitch-black environment only lasted for a moment. Hua Zhanhong pointed his finger, and countless orbs of light flew toward the tent, forming another layer of light membrane inside.
"Alright," Hua Zhanhong clapped his hands and said, "Now, little Wang Yu can safely say some things that are not suitable for people with ulterior motives to hear."
Ah, me? .JPG
Wang Yu pointed at himself, revealing a classic confused expression.
Zhan Kong chuckled beside him and nudged Wang Yu, saying, "Why don't you first explain those collapsed cliffs in the suburbs of Bo City, the dried-up riverbeds that have turned into swamps, and the markings next to the water-absorbing formations? In my opinion, these are all probably related to you."
"I'm not so good at doing things anonymously. I was the one who blocked the demons and marked the elemental absorption arrays a while ago." Wang Yu was quite frank with these two people. There are still some people in the entire world who can be trusted.
"So, Commander Hua, what exactly do you want to ask?"
"Old Bao from the Qingtian Hunting Grounds once showed me a magical contract you signed with him." Hua Zhanhong took out a somewhat familiar parchment scroll. "I have forcibly deactivated this contract, so it will no longer affect you."
Hua Zhanhong clasped his hands together and looked at Wang Yu earnestly: "I want to know, what exactly did you say to Old Man Bao back then?"
Even the unconscious release of the forbidden spell mage's power exerted immense pressure on Wang Yu. Fortunately, the mage restrained himself in time; otherwise, Wang Yu might have been overwhelmed by the sensation. Taking a sip of water, Wang Yu carefully considered his words before speaking:
"Now that you have this contract, I presume Old Man Bao has already had a preliminary discussion with you. But to avoid any distortion of information due to relaying, I will repeat it verbatim."
"When I first awakened my magic, I 'heard' some information from the wind element I awakened. The first piece of information was: Currently, a group of military mages are researching a new magic system. This magic system not only looks evil, but also requires mages as test subjects, and so far, no test subject has survived. The best test subject for this kind of experiment is someone like me who possesses more magic elements than other mages of the same rank. The wind told me that within four years at the latest—or two years in today's timeframe—those scoundrels among the military mages who have lost all sense of reality through their experiments will come and capture me to be a test subject. After all, I can't keep my dual-elemental talent hidden forever."
A hint of surprise flashed in Hua Zhanhong's eyes, but he managed to suppress his emotions well. Zhan Kong, who was standing next to him, was completely bewildered, as if he were listening to some kind of comedy sketch.
"The second piece of information is that Cardinal Salan's men from the Black Vatican are planning a devastating massacre in Bo City. They will unleash monsters from the surrounding area to attack the city, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties. However, Bo City is just a rehearsal for them. The Black Vatican will recreate the Bo City massacre in a northern city in the future, with countless deaths and injuries."
Upon hearing about the events in Bo City, Zhan Kong's expression was extremely complex, a mixture of fear, surprise, lingering apprehension, and relief all rushing to his mind.
Hua Zhanhong interjected, "You said the information you 'heard' was that hundreds of thousands of people would be injured or killed in Bocheng. What are the death and missing person statistics for this incident?"
Zhan Kong opened his tablet, refreshed the latest statistics from the Magic Association, and read: "More than 40,000 confirmed deaths, and 30,000 temporarily missing."
After a long pause, Hua Zhanhong finally spoke, "I was actually relieved that the casualties didn't exceed 100,000. Wang Yu, you've done another tremendous service in this matter. I just calculated that if it weren't for your little tricks to slow down the demons' attack on the city, and if Old Man Bao hadn't reminded me to prepare the Sky Eagle Mage Corps, the casualties in Bo City would definitely have exceeded 300,000. Wang Yu, you've saved another 200,000 people. But no one will see this achievement, and no one will be able to claim credit for you."
"If I wanted to be credited, why not just report it publicly?" Wang Yu laughed heartily. "The main concern is that the mole within the Black Vatican might get desperate and act rashly if they find out. I don't have a direct way to contact you, otherwise, we could have nipped this incident in the bud."
"It's no use talking about this after the fact," Hua Zhanhong said. "However, considering the accuracy of your special information, I approve that you will report directly to me from now on. Now, let's continue discussing the information you just provided. You said the Black Vatican intends to recreate the tragedy of Bo City in a northern city of our country? Do you know which city specifically?"
"Commander Hua, please don't be anxious." Wang Yu naturally knew the whole story, but he had to carefully consider how much he could say. After taking a sip of tea, Wang Yu continued, "The information I just heard was what I 'heard' about three years ago when I awakened. Later, as my wind-element cultivation gradually increased, some of the things that were vague gradually became clearer."
"There is no further information regarding the new magic system. As for the Black Vatican, it is now clear that their target city is not on the coast, and their method of implementation is most likely the same as that of Bo City, using rain to spread some kind of special potion to achieve the Black Vatican's goal."
"I also sensed a third piece of information: the sirens would launch a large-scale invasion of a certain major city in the future, and we successfully repelled them. That's all."
When Wang Yu spoke, it was clear that Hua Zhanhong and Zhan Kong were both deep in thought. Neither of them consciously left any written notes, which made Wang Yu feel relatively safe.
After a long silence, Hua Zhanhong finally spoke, "Wang Yu, we still need to think about and discuss the situation you described. Of course, I can assure you that, like Old Man Bao, I won't leak the source of the information and put you in a dangerous situation. As for Zhan Kong," he glanced at Zhan Kong sideways, "you better watch your mouth. Forget everything you said today as soon as you leave this tent!"
"Yes!" Zhan Kong replied with a salute.
Hua Zhanhong then said, "As for you personally, do you have any other requests? I can't reward you with another merit, so I can only try to compensate you in other ways. Or, would you be willing to join our Southern Military Region?"
Wang Yu laughed. One of the world's most powerful figures in France was here, patting his chest and saying, "Name your terms." How many times in the world can you find such a good deal?
But given his own strength, the principle of being greedy and overindulging is universal. Even if he wanted a soul seed worth hundreds of millions right now, he couldn't incorporate it into his body before advancing to a higher level. What use would that be?
Wang Yu carefully crafted his request: "I'm sorry, but I still value freedom more, and the life of a military mage isn't suitable for me. Here are my requirements: First, I hope to have some opportunities to cultivate in military-controlled protected areas. Pearl Academy has the Three-Step Tower, and I guess your various military regions have similar places."
"This is not difficult, you can do it." Hua Zhanhong nodded. He had only asked casually, and it was within his expectations that Wang Yu would not join the Southern Military Region.
"Secondly, I am currently teaching myself weapon crafting, and I hope to learn the knowledge and techniques related to weapon crafting in the military. It would be even better if someone could guide me. Of course, I will definitely not pass on the knowledge I learn."
Hua Zhanhong frowned slightly: "Signing a confidential magic oath will allow you to study with the Forbidden City Army, but there's no guarantee that someone will be able to teach you. Masters are very busy, and taking on disciples is very casual. If your level isn't up to par, even if I give you face, it won't help."
"Of course, I just want an opportunity. Whether I can learn it or not depends entirely on my own level," Wang Yu said. "My third request is that I don't know if the Southern Military Region has any honorary titles or anything like that in the military mage system. Could you give me one? I'm not after fame, but purely to have a basic identity when dealing with other military mages in the future, so that it will be easier to communicate."
Hua Zhanhong and Zhan Kong burst into laughter upon hearing this, leaving Wang Yu somewhat puzzled. Hua Zhanhong gave a wink, and Zhan Feng explained, "Hahaha, you really know how to make demands. There are such honorary ranks in the military mage system. If you're interested, you don't need to tell Commander Hua; I can grant you an honorary captain. However, this title is somewhat looked down upon in the military. It's usually only those with connections and no real ability who manage to get it through birthright. Those with some ability and connections wouldn't want this honorary rank."
"So, what do you think of my family background? Are my family connections strong?" Wang Yu asked with a smile.
"Oh right, I forgot you're from an orphanage, so you don't care about these things," Zhan Kong said with a smirk.
"Or rather, now that you've said that about killing the Air Force Commander, I want it even more. At least when dealing with military mages in the future, I can show off my honorary rank first and let them guess who's behind me!"
The three of them burst into laughter, ending their conversation for the day.
