I am a mage, with an infinite mana bar!

Chapter 8 A Brand New Magic

While Eli was healing, Barton slowly walked up to Lynn.

"Child, your name is Lynn, right? Thank you for rescuing this girl. Although I haven't seen her for many years since I was transferred here from Luo'an City, she has always been my favorite student. Hehe, I'm a bit strict in class, and she's always been afraid of me."

The old man paused, looking at Lynn with a meaningful gaze, "However, I can only express my gratitude to you on my behalf."

This is to suspect that I covet the identity of the city lord's daughter and that I have ulterior motives for getting close to Eli.

"You're too kind," Lynn explained calmly. "The situation was critical at the time. Eli was attacked by the demon-sucking monster while trying to heal me, so it was only natural for me to save her. She only told me afterwards that she was actually..."

Barton nodded slightly, his gaze softening considerably. "You're an upright and kind young man; people like you are very rare!"

He let out a hearty laugh, and his appearance and demeanor were nothing like those of an elderly man.

"If you need it, I might be able to help you apply for the entrance exam for a beginner mage." He patted Lynn's shoulder several times, thankfully not too hard, otherwise Lynn's current thin frame would have been too much for him.

How did he know I was just an apprentice mage? Lynn was a little puzzled. Although he did look like a novice, Barton seemed to have already confirmed this fact.

But he quickly realized that the most basic ability of a mage is to have a broad knowledge and a good memory. As a staff member of the Magic Association, Barton had most likely seen his file, which was not surprising.

Lynn felt somewhat ashamed. The job classifications in this world were basically the same. Taking mages as an example, they were, in order, apprentice mage, novice mage, senior mage, elite mage, and grand mage (master level).

Like one-star adventurers, there are no barriers to becoming an apprentice mage; all you need to do is master a magic trick to prove you have magical abilities.

"But I remember that to participate in the entrance exam for a beginner mage, you need to master at least one second-circle spell, right?"

He's only mastered one first-level spell, [Frost Ring], so he's still far from mastering it.

"Oh?" Barton glanced sideways, a hint of doubt in his eyes. "So you haven't mastered second-circle magic yet?"

He stroked the short beard on his rounded chin. "Then I'm even more curious. Without second-circle magic, how did you manage to escape from those mana-draining monsters and strange vines, and even rescue Eli in the process?"

Lynn's pupils contracted slightly. Good heavens, this old fox was waiting for me here...

He had deliberately concealed the fact that he possessed the Frost Ring, because Lynn knew very well that the Frost Ring was a completely new type of magic that did not exist in this world!

According to the original owner's memories, the book "Complete Record of Magic Below the Third Ring" published by the Magic Association includes all the low-ring magic in this world that has been officially certified.

The Frost Ring is not among them.

Lynn had noticed this a long time ago; some of the magic provided in the Root Codex was new!

This isn't really a serious matter; every year, the "Complete Record of Magic Below the Third Ring" adds quite a few new spells.

But he felt that showing off such a thing in front of someone who seemed to hold a high position in the Magic Association would seem too deliberate.

It's like some things are fun to show off to peers, but when you're in front of elders, it sounds like you're being spoiled.

"I should have just said it directly..." Lynn regretted that she had made a mistake by hiding the truth, which made her seem more deliberate and might even lead to some misunderstanding.

"Teacher Barton," Eli, whose injuries had somehow healed, said earnestly to Barton with wide eyes, "You don't know, Lynn knows a very powerful offensive spell, and it's a focus spell that lasts a long time..."

As she spoke, she suddenly remembered what she had just heard and looked at Lynn with surprise, "You're so powerful, and you're still just an apprentice mage?"

Lynn wanted to cover her face. This guy not only revealed all her secrets, but also asked such a hurtful question.

It's like a wealthy person seeing your payslip and asking in shock, "You're clearly very capable, but you only earn this much money each month?"

There was no malice intended, only harm.

Lynn glanced at Barton and saw that the other man was looking at him with great interest. The old man nodded and smiled, "Little Elijah is the most magically talented young man I have ever seen. Even she praised you. It seems that young Lynn is hiding his true abilities."

Actually, he didn't intend to hide it... it's just that Lynn was a bit anxious about the special mission and didn't plan to focus his attention on himself for the time being.

Barton then spoke up, "Lynn, have you ever heard of the White Tower Society?"

Of course I've heard of it. It's one of the Seven Towers of the continent, the most popular magic organization in the Kingdom of Assassin! The most cutting-edge and innovative magic research institution... Wait, why is he bringing this up?

Lynn glanced at Barton's simple white mage robes and suddenly understood something.

So this old man is from the White Pagoda!

Is this an invitation for me to join the White Tower? Lynn felt a little expectant.

Sure enough, old man Barton, with a kind smile on his face, said, "..."

Before he could speak, he was interrupted by Rumi, who rushed back.

"Sir, that Gray... he's back!"

Gray actually came back? Well, he is a three-star adventurer after all, those vines probably didn't hold him for long.

"What about the three mages?" Barton asked sternly.

Rumi's face darkened. "They say that when he broke free of his restraints, he was already gone."

Lynn glanced cautiously at the seemingly stout old man, only to find his face ashen and his eyes filled with thunderous fury.

On the continent, spellcasters, or anything related to magic, naturally hold a higher status than other professions.

After all, magic is the primary productive force.

Therefore, the Magic Association has always held the upper hand over the Adventurers' Guild.

Although those three mages were all at the apprentice level, they were still rare talents, and they also concerned the reputation of the Magic Association.

Old Man Barton quickly regained his composure and said to Rumi, "Go to the Adventurers' Guild again, question them thoroughly, and have them send people to search for the three children in the name of the Magic Association."

He then turned to Lynn and said, "Lynn, I hope you can help me make contact with that orc warrior. The Magic Association is short-handed, and I can't leave right now..."

Lynn naturally wouldn't refuse; he already had some things he wanted to investigate thoroughly.

All signs indicate that this was a premeditated scam targeting the sorcerer.

Could it be to undermine the Magic Association? But these apprentice mages, to put it nicely, are only "promising in the future," not enough to truly damage the association's strength.

In any case, as a mage, he might already be being targeted. This is a matter of life and death, so how can he not find out the truth?

"Let's talk in the guild. There's no need to meet with that orc in private. Just say I sent you. That idiot Harold won't dare to make things difficult for you."
