Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds: The Path of Evolution

Chapter 22 Rest and Unpacking

Guan Bai returned to the dressing room, and Alan followed shortly after from the audience.

That last round was absolutely fantastic.

Allen extended his right hand and bumped fists with Guan Bai.

Guan Bai sat down on the sofa and caught his breath.

"Not bad, phew, I almost got knocked down."

It has two meanings: not only is there a possibility of sudden death from a bad luck, but also a physical sense of being about to be knocked down.

That kid really hits hard.

A single instance of combat damage would force Kanpaku to use all his Duel Disk power to defend against it, almost burning him out.

For a fleeting moment, Kanbai felt like he wasn't playing Yu-Gi-Oh!, but some kind of Mortal Kombat with superpowers.

For this reason, Kanpaku also discovered another function of the Duel Disk provided by the system.

That's hard.

Perhaps due to the power of the system, this duel disk can absorb all energy from attacks except for physical impact.

This is also why Kanpaku was able to use it to block the fireball, only to be repelled.

Normally, a fireball would have exploded upon impact.

Therefore, Kanpaku felt it was necessary to find an opportunity to practice shield fighting techniques, which would be useful in the next duel.

Who knows, I might even be able to cosplay as the Duel Disk Captain in Dark Duel!

Allen sat down opposite Kanpaku to adjust the deck. Kanpaku glanced over and felt he couldn't really help.

Allen's biggest problem is a lack of cards; he doesn't have any of the archetype's white monsters or spell/trap cards.

Even if Guan Bai wanted to help and offer guidance, he was powerless to do so.

If Allen really had to offer any suggestions to Guan Bai, he could only point out a few things regarding the choice of traps, such as including some summoning reaction traps or some suitable attack and declaration traps.

So while Allen was adjusting the deck, Kanpaku sat with his eyes closed, mentally opening packs.

The system's clean interface once again came to mind.

Looking at the card pack in front of him, Guan Bai felt that he had begun to understand the pattern of how the system sent him card packs.

The number of packs will remain the same, depending on the opponent's rating: five packs for the average rating, ten packs for the elite rating, and twenty packs for the expert rating.

Then, starting with the rewards for defeating Elite-level enemies, Kanpaku will receive at least two types of card packs.

One type is a magic/trap-themed card pack given to Kanpaku based on the proportion of spell/trap cards used by Kanpaku in a match.

Another approach is to allocate card packs based on the main monster theme of the Kanpaku deck.

The evidence is that when Kanpaku used Valley of the Dawn and Next Gen cards interchangeably before, the system always gave Kanpaku DT-themed card packs.

Now that Kanpaku has separated his deck into the next-generation deck and is playing it separately, the system reward has become a next-generation themed card pack!

Of course, this speculation still has some flaws, but it can basically be used to guide practice.

Guan Bai's expression was a little strange.

"All the functions of this system are designed to help me fight better," this is the key point summarized by Kanpaku.

Looking back now, it really makes a lot of sense, because this system's card pack distribution is completely catering to Kanpaku's preferences!

However, if Kanpaku wants to acquire more and stronger decks, he will need to play with decks that are not yet fully developed.

Perhaps you could ask someone you know to swipe their credit card?

Guan Bai also experimented with it.

He discovered that only duels using the duel disk and virtual images were considered eligible by the system.

But when playing cards with friends or companions, who would seriously use the duel disk the whole time?

Usually, you just set up the card holders and play a few rounds, and that's about it.

The Duel Disk uses electric shocks to simulate various sensory stimuli.

If you actually use your friend's credit card to swipe their wallet, they might end up in the repair shop due to excessive electric shocks before they've even swiped the card enough.

Sigh, it's tough...

With a feeling of not knowing what expression to make, Kanpaku opened the fifteen packs of next-generation themed decks.

It has to be said that the probability of getting useful cards from the themed card packs has increased even further.

Kanpaku can significantly strengthen his next-generation deck.

Cards like Allied Next-Generation Birdman, because of the Next-Generation slot, were also drawn twice by Kanpaku, so they can be put into the Valley of the Mist deck.

As long as it doesn't take up the main focus, it probably won't affect the types of card packs that can be released.

It's a pity that, in order to prevent his opponents from targeting him, he will have to switch to the Valley of the Clouds deck for the next four rounds.

I casually opened the magic-themed card pack and the trap-themed card pack.

Whirlwind, clan unity, swing of memories, resurrection of the dead.

Not bad, out of twenty-five magic cards, four are actually usable.

As for the other cards... Kanpaku doesn't really want to see them in his deck.

On the other side, the trap card packs yielded many more good cards.

The Cry of the Living Dead, Naraku's Pitfall, and Dimensional Confinement are all useful trap cards.

The other traps, while somewhat mediocre in effect, are at least at a level that Kanpaku would consider including in his deck.

With that in mind, Kanpaku began building a new Valley of the Dawn and next-generation deck on the deck-building interface.

Incidentally, he also collected some random cards from the Dragon Riders and the Righteous Alliance.

If there are any more street duels next time, Kanpaku plans to use these unfinished decks to farm card packs.

In between building his deck, Kanpaku would watch the ongoing underground tournament to relax his mind.

He watched the duel on TV, and it was quite one-sided.

The bespectacled duelist seemed to anticipate his opponent's every move, and each card he played precisely struck at his weak points.

Guan Bai felt that this person looked familiar, but he couldn't quite put his finger on why.

However, this person is likely to be my opponent in the semifinals, so it's still necessary to specifically study my opponent's tactics.

I'll go back and ask Joel for some information on our opponent.

As he was thinking this, the duelist's monster flashed like lightning, taking away the opponent's last life points.

Allen jumped to his feet.

"My turn!"

As I was walking out, I heard the TV announcer saying it was time for the intermission.

So Allen walked back from the door, plopped down on the sofa, and sighed heavily.

Guan Bai watched him walk over and back, his nervousness was so obvious, and his sweat was almost forming puddles.

"Don't be too nervous, just approach the duel with the same mindset you have in the street!"

Guan Bai pointed out that Allen was not in good condition.

Allen touched his face as if waking from a dream, like a drowning person finally rescued from the water.

"Yeah... that's how I dueled in the streets..."

Guan Bai calmly repeated the story.

"A cocky laugh, decisive moves, a penchant for TTK... that's your style! Relax, you need to regain your confidence!"

"Thank you, Kanpaku. I never imagined I'd almost fall back into that old pattern."

"I went to the entrance of the dueling arena first, I felt I could get into good shape there."

Allen nodded solemnly, got up and walked outside.

On the television, pretty young girls, there to warm up the crowd, sang a dynamic battle song. Their voices flowed from the red and green lights, and they walked with Allen towards the dueling arena.

"I really don't know if this guy even listened to me..."

Guan Bai muttered a complaint under his breath.

Once Allen's footsteps were completely out of earshot, Guan Bai got up from the sofa and walked towards the audience seats.
