Marvel: Starting with the forced creation of villainous characters
Chapter 12: Skye's Certification Office.
After being persuaded by Mark, Mindy gave up the idea of kidnapping the insurance company owner.
After leaving the hospital, the two hailed a taxi and headed towards the "identity document processing location" that Old Dog had mentioned.
After half an hour.
Mindy and Mark stood in a dimly lit alley, facing a tightly closed green iron gate.
Mindy analyzed seriously, "Being near the edge of Hell's Kitchen, this place is actually a safe zone, and the iron door should be quite sturdy; it should at least be able to stop bullets."
Mark didn't reply, but instead pounded on the iron gate.
"What are you here for?" A deep, metallic voice came from inside the door.
Mark quickly gave the code.
Once the code was matched, the people inside opened the iron gate.
Upon seeing the person inside the door, Mark's face flashed with surprise, and even Mindy looked at the other person with astonishment.
This wasn't because the person looked strange; on the contrary, she had a mixed-race face with an Eastern appearance and was a great beauty.
Skye looked at the two children in front of her with a puzzled expression and asked, "Where are your parents?"
"Just the two of us," Mark said calmly.
"ha?"
Skye wondered if she had misheard, and looked at the two little ones in front of her with some curiosity. She even wondered if they were dwarfs.
Mark and Mindy look too young; at that age, they would still be in orphanages waiting to be adopted.
Skye pulled the two of them inside, then cautiously peered out to see if anyone else was staking out the area. She suspected that Mark and the others were just pawns, sent by someone to test her.
Skye, having searched for a long time without finding anyone, had no choice but to close the door.
Facing the two children, Skye stopped pretending to be fierce and asked kindly, "You're here to get your identification documents, right? But I charge a fee for this service, so tell me what you need."
Mark didn't care about the other person's attitude, nor did he find the other person's age and gender strange anymore.
In the Marvel Universe, there are plenty of child prodigies, and given that this is Hell's Kitchen, it's normal for one or two geniuses to pop up occasionally.
Mark stated his request directly: "We need five pieces of identification."
Skye nodded, then opened the notebook on the coffee table.
"What are the specific requirements? Like age and gender, for example?" Skye asked, looking down at the computer.
Mark then began to state his requirements: "Mark, male, preferably 16 years or older, and then there's Mindy..."
Skye asked, typing on the keyboard, "Would it be convenient to tell me my real age?"
Mark: "I'm 12 years old, and then..."
Mark then went on to talk about some more specific things.
Skye nodded earnestly, her fingers tapping incessantly on the keyboard.
A few minutes later, Skye turned the laptop around and placed it in front of the two of them.
Skye asked, "You should be able to read the words on it, right?"
Mark nodded.
Skye breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this, then said seriously, "I have found your family information. Now you need to answer one question for me. The information says that you were previously adopted by an orphanage."
"But here you are, so why are you in Hell's Kitchen? It clearly says that you've been adopted by a rich man."
Mark didn't expect Skye to have uncovered all their information with just this information. But the problem is, he came here to get a fake ID, not to reclaim his former identity.
"As you can see, we were sold to a wealthy person with a peculiar hobby, and then there's this guy next to me," Mark explained, pointing to Mindy beside him with a smug and proud air.
"You've been in Hell's Kitchen for quite a while now, you must have heard of Hit-Girl, right?"
Skye had certainly heard of HitGirl and Big Daddy, but not in a good way.
After all, what kind of good father would take his underage daughter out to fight criminals?
However, Skye had a rough idea of what had happened.
That foolish tycoon thought he had brought back a little lamb, but little did he know that it was a wolf in sheep's clothing.
"He's really unlucky," Skye said, first expressing sympathy for Mark and the others' plight, then offering words of comfort.
"If you'd like, I can send you back to the orphanage. I know a really good one; that's where I grew up."
Mark glanced at Mindy beside him and shook his head, saying, "I don't need it. We can live independently now."
"However, I have a friend who wants to go back to the orphanage, and if possible, I'd like to send her to the orphanage you used to stay at."
Seeing Mark's decisive rejection, Skye frowned. She was genuinely worried about Mark wandering the streets, especially in Hell's Kitchen.
However, considering that Mark had Hit-Girl by his side, Skye did not try to persuade Mark to return to the orphanage.
Of course, the main problem is that she hasn't found any information about Crystal Spirit and Esther, and she can't find their families right now.
This reminded Skye of herself. She had studied hacking diligently in hopes of finding her parents, but even though her hacking skills were now among the best in the world, she still couldn't find them.
"If you don't want to go back to the orphanage, I can help you find an orphanage to register with, so that you can get a new identity certificate when you turn 16."
She wouldn't be so considerate to anyone else, and she wouldn't even meddle in other people's business.
But Mark and his friends were too special, and too young. Skye, who still had a conscience, really wanted to help them.
Upon hearing this, Mark pondered the matter. Skye's suggestion was good, but it wouldn't solve their current problem.
Mark said, "Okay, but we still need temporary identification."
"No problem, I can help you with this," Skye agreed, patting her chest.
Mark thanked him, saying, "Thank you for your help."
Skye smiled and shook her head: "No need to be polite. We're all orphans, so helping each other is only right."
This is of course a lie. After all, Hell's Kitchen lacks everything except orphans. If she were to empathize with orphans, she would have to empathize with a huge number of them.
Skye was willing to help Mark purely because of his age.
Mark breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this.
Fortunately, the somewhat meddlesome older sister in front of them did not use the guise of "doing what's best for you" to forcibly send them to the orphanage.
Mark asked curiously, "By the way, can you tell me your name?"
Normally, a genius girl like this should be a top-tier superhero or supervillain in Marvel.
Skye replied while typing on the keyboard, "You can just call me Skye."
